The margin between recommended mass and theoretical maximum is there to give you a reasonable stopping distance. If you load up to theoretical maximum, you can still hover, but not really slow down any more, which means you crash, when you try to land.
But taking off with that mass might still be possible, since there might be a miniscule amount of extra thrust, that isn't used to make you hover.
And of course the recommended mass includes all the ships. They cant just all undock, to let you land. The carrier must be able to land with it's full complement of ships aboard, otherwise it is no gud.
Also the connectors are all on the bottom, because it has to work in an atmosphere with ships that are potentially damaged. So a dock that is open and you can essentially just fall onto is much easier to get to, than a dock, that is under a ceiling in some hangar deep inside the ship.
Hell, if you wanted you could even park vehicles up there. They also fit on the connectors.
Or you can put more fighters into the garage, if you hate driving.
Thats why all small craft have their connector on the bottom, so every ship can theoretically use every dock. If for example some of the dropship hangar got destroyed you still have a place to put a few dropships.
That's why I dont have ships with connectors in different directions. It's standardised.
Also at one point I was working on a battleship in the same style, but never finished it.
I am currently on a bit of a Space Engineers break, playing some other games.I don't know when willI publish something else. I am not very consistant with uploads at the best of times and also only publish things that I think are something special (for me at least).
Before the break I did build some survival stuff, but that was nothing you can't already find on the workshop.
And I was working on a new carrier, but that got seriously out of hand and I would need to have a better PC to finish it. So that's on hold aswell.
Or better yet... A faction. Battlecruisers, corvettes, frigates, and of course carriers.
Speaking of factions, what faction does the Revelation belong to?
Is it just one of the building spots, or both? Not sure whats going on and I don't think that the sim speed would cause that.
Sorry that you can't use it though :c
If only the welders don't work I honestly have no idea what caused that. It's a realtively simple timer block with an on/off trigger for the welders. Not much that can go wrong there.
Did you weld a few times before they stopped working, or did you do any other things, or did the welders just refuse to work from the first try?
Challenge Accepted
Forget the massive CSO-class Supercarier...
Forget all the other ships on the workshop.
In sci-fi, they might look and be bigger, but in game nothing can compare to this.
It holds a planatary invasion army. This is the build I was waiting for for years.
It has massive hangars carrying corvettes. I haven't seen any ship in SE do this before. As a average builder I think it is extraordinairly hard to make and it must have taken hundered if not thousands of hours to make. I give you a thumb up, you deserve it.
Also, whoever welds this in survival is a certified maniac in my eyes. XD
Not impossible, but one would have to setup most of the timer blocks again and thats a multi day task by itself.
They are hidden behind some decorative blocks, but can be accessed through doors.
IF I were to make a video of some sort, of me talking you through the ship and my thinking behind it all, would you rather have one long boi video with timestamps for the different categories, or special videos for each category?
The only thing I could improve would be turning, by throwing even more gyros at the thing. But that would lower cargo capacity somewhat. Not sure, if that's worth it for me.
It was successful Landing.
Permanent landing mind you :D
But it's not impossible. Will take some time though.
The engines tilt, because the ship needs them to be able to hover on planets.
But in space I also wanted to use them to accelerate the ship.
So it is not 100% what aaron said as I understand it, but it is certainly not for protection I am afraid.
those are the Tech1/Tier1 battleships
But at some point I want to build a ship where you can drive around in. A flat ship like the Nyx would be ideal for that. Maybe I can figure something out that is along those lines.
i whould say 11 out of 10 for making it i have whatched Laststand Gamer Aaron showing your Wyvern/Revelation A-Carrier
i wonder if you are able to the Nyx perhaps or any eve online ships this 1 is SPOT on
