For some reason, I can't find this mod when I search "Remove Ship Icons" on the workshop (I have to go to my subscribed items) and this is the only mod in my subscribed items that Steam won't let me add to a collection.

G'day! I've gotten good enough that with the default map I could zoom around in a convoy, avoiding the escorts, and sink commercial vessels willy nilly. Not very realistic though and I was beginning to find the sim too easy and starting to get bored.

However, after using this mod and the "More Realistic Map Mode," all I can say is WOW! Makes for a whole new challenging game and much more fulfilling to sink enemy vessels without getting caught.

Thank you for this mod or I'd probably be shelving Uboat about now.

I think I'm going to give this a try. I kind of like the idea of having ?s on the ships just for the sake of not having to micro the hydrophone operator, especially when you're being hunted and trying to take care of the rest of your skipper-business. Otherwise how do you have a clue if a DD is making a run on you except when the hydrophone operator says he hears screws overhead? I just want something to keep me from using the map to magically plot courses and range ships with a ridiculously high degree of accuracy.

Great mod. I have no idea how to find ships via hydrophone with it enabled (I cannot tell the sounds of ships from my own, or the background sea noise), but great at giving the game more realism. Thanks.

Updated to work with B128 and B129

Assets should be compatible between B128 and B129. However the new manifest file may not work on B128. If this is the case using B128, find the Mod Folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\494840\2230136199 and Rename Manifest.old.json as Manifest.json.

Compiled the list of icons last night for removal and / grey scale for (generic icons). Will port over and compile an asset file soon. If it works I should have an update by tonight or this weekend. I will also look into having the mod compatible with B128 and 129 as I assume both icons can be present in the files while only the relevant icons from the manifest loaded.

Currently I and other modders are having issues with unity asset.manifest files and are unable to create new assets in B129. Currently have to rebuild using b128 and port over to b129.

I will look in to making a B129 version of remove ship icons.

@alligator this may be related to caching
@eritainment, I don't believe this is possible via a simple datasheet change + unity asset change at the moment the game handles the ui for the player and npc contacts in the same way.

This request is likely better suited as a feature request to the devs. This mod doesn't change any of the game code. However there are wip mods that are looking to change the code to targeting and the map. I am unsure of any mod development around audio additions to the game for crew

Is there a mod/ is it possible to make a mod, where your crewmen, callout the bearing of new contacts... and it is logged in a small note pad or something...

basically, by removing ship icons entirely, you are entirely reliant on your own use of hydrophone or periscope to locate the enemy ships.

But i like to play just the captain role, and have my officers do this bit for me, so when a new contact is spotted, it would be perfect if the officer calls out its bearing, followed by maybe a rough distance like "far or close", and i would pencil mark this on the map.

You can also have an option to ask your hydrophonist, to repeat all contacts and bearings he is currently tracking

I'd be super convenient to just see what direction you're facing when submerged. :)

sometimes a white square appears over a friendly submarine. Unfortunately, I have not yet found out why this is not the case with all submarines.

is it possible to give the German Navy a symbol on its own submarines?
You need this if you want to coordinate a wolf pack attack.
I personally think that you shouldn't coordinate a submerged submarine because you couldn't reach it in reality at the time of WW2. It may make sense in the game, however, since you have to complete missions with wolf pack attacks.
