It's unfortunately hard-coded so anything that isnt the same length as the original files wont ever play; that's just how the game is coded. That's just how it is.
can people just like
stop making it so i have to change the game files?
Bruh just learn how to make it so when i press subscribe it just does it like every other mod.
I am lazy.
That was a growing pain with me making my first voice mod, as I thought the game would simply skip unedited voice lines and substitute another; which like you said they actually dont. My next voice mod after my soon-to-be-released one will just be me updating this one since i can edit more lines freely and faster just since I have a handle on doing them now.
tldr; I will fix the issue for my project.:D
I'm not too experienced when it comes to how audio files are affected when it comes to new updates (especially since we're only gotten a new one recently in who knows how long) but:
-If the sounds are high pitched but can still be audible just for a split second type in "snd_rebuildaudiocache" in console on the main menu, then quit the game when its done and head back on in.
-If Nick's voices are playing alongside Travis' then just go to Nick's voice file path when browsing local files (\left4dead2\sound\player\survivor\voice\gambler) and make a backup folder inside called "backup", then drag all sounds files from "gambler" into there. Then follow the first point listed above. ^
If none of this works then you just didn't simply follow my instructions since the sound files used are longer than Nicks, and the only way they can play in full is by making a custom sound folder by following the above instructions.
I'll change it since (speaking from experience) it can be frustrating searching for campaigns when there's a slew of items that aren't.
You would need to since for voice addons Left4Dead2 doesn't allow for an easy automatic installation. My voice pack has lines that are longer than the survivor's lines so to allow them to play you would have to follow the instruction.
It only takes 15 minutes overall though so don't worry about the guide I linked taking up to much time lol
