Report a translation problem
It was an extra pair of quotation marks that broke part of the landed_titles file. Oops, sorry about that!
"Pontic Steppe" as a name at least actually exists IRL, definetely not for an empire, but for a geographic region. I will try adding translations for it but it will still mean the same thing.
It's the game developer's decision for a "Pontic Steppe" empire to "exist" and since MCN's scope is to pretty much just provide more name variants in more languages, I really shouldn't just go ahead and change it to something else entirely.
Other than that, I do like a lot of the names you added in the mod. I just never like "Pontic Steppe" as a name for an empire.
Officially only vanilla and HIP is supported.
Nope. That was actually part of MCN's scope a while back, and the title changes are still part of the mod, but have not been updated/extended in a long time.
For vanilla CK2 there are already quite a lot (32) of cultures covered, and for the other games there's no need (HIP does that by itself, and CK3 has a different and excellent mod that does that)
I might, however, extract those into a separate mod in the future, and remove them from MCN.
But unfortunately no, for CK2, MCN only works with vanilla and HIP.
Others are welcome to make compatibility patches, and that would be greatly appreciated. On my part though, MCN is already taking a lot of time and effort to maintain and develop further, so I had to put CK2 on hold (meaning that the existing versions will be maintained, but no new ones made), so that I can focus on the newer games instead.
the mod description is in english, romanian and german
Here is the MCN mod itself https://github.com/hmlendea/more-cultural-names (locations.xml for example)

validate_cultural_names does not work, however, when continuing my modded savegame. Which makes me think there must be some mod conflicting with this one
Here are some steps that we can try in order to see why that's not the case:
1.
I know this sounds like a cheap suggestion, and you probably did that already, but please double check that the mod appears in the launcher and is enabled.
2.
Then, could you try loading up the game using *only* this mod and try to see if a change occurs?
3.
You could also try opening the in-game console (the ` key, left of the 1 key, below Esc) and entering the following command: validate_cultural_names
This command will force the game to refresh the cultural names of all the titles in the game.
4.
Then if this fails try unsubscribing, deleting any leftover files (of this mod) from the mods folder, if any, and subscribing again and trying the first suggestions again.
Please report back with the result and which step fixed it for you, or if the problem still persists.
I've reuploaded
Let me know if you still encounter those problems, thanks.
Eventually all default/vanilla names will be added (as long as they make sense, ofc, some of them are names from completely other places and I won't include those)
Thank you for your concern and informing me about it.
Yeah, I'm not sure why there's two and where the second one comes from. The zip is generated by the Paradox Launcher so I'm not sure what's going on, but I have an idea that I will try when updating the game the next time.
Another thing is that the main file is named "more-cultural-names.mod.mod" so it has ".mod" twice . Again this is because of the game launcher when uploading, as the file I created is named correctly. But at least it doesn't seem to be causing issues.
I'm no CK2 mod author, but going by experience, I believe that the left-side version of the file would be the correct one, and the right-hand one should be deleted.
Thank you for creating and sharing the mod with us.
