Is it necessary to change the skin or is it enough to enter/exit the menu?
I don't have time to test, but I will add this method to the descriptions.
Did you have any problems?
after activating it and loading the game, are you respawned? (you must necessarily commit suicide for changes to occur)
then, it's definitely the game.
Anyway, give it a try with other similar mods, maybe try another of mine, or just one made by someone else, and we hope the game decides to make it work with your savegame.
just to be safe, create a separate save and try to leave my mod alone, removing all the others, if it works there must be a conflict somewhere.
We just need a built-in system that integrates different types of suits, so that the game itself can save any changes it brings, without compromising the gameplay experience.
the game has only one basic set for the suit (the player), the rest are only interchangeable skins, so the game does not have a basic system to allow a suit change that would allow the creation of different models, in addition to just the change of skins.
However, to overcome the problem of overwriting other mods on this one, just put it at the bottom (down) of the list of active mods, using the buttons to move up and down the various mods, thus changing the order in which they are loaded.
Example: there is a mod that modifies a lot of things besides the character, but you want to use my mod as well.
just place my mod under the other, to allow an overwriting of the characters.sbc during loading, without compromising all the things that the other mod changes, because mine will only overwrite the characters.sbc file.
