Overall though, this was an amazing level that is fun for Halloween, or any time someone wants to play a long, fun level (like Mental Institution without the walls, and on crack)! I hope you'll make more sometime! I really enjoyed it!
I only had a few minor issues while playing, Mostly that the Mini-nuke launcher didn't seem to do too much when I used it, and it made the game hard to play with the brightness. Though I can certianly understand that since it was a nuke, but still. Either I missed the enemies, or it didn't hurt them, so I just kinda used its 5 shots and moved on. (I used it after you get it in the church where the 4th pumpkin is). It also featured a ton of tough enemies in long, hard waves, which isn't a bad thing by any means, its just very intense. Fortunately, the checkpoints are fairly generous. My biggest issue, which is more of a dissapointment than anything, is that there's no post-game stats (time, score, enemies killed exc) beacuse there were way more enemies than any SS level than I've ever seen before! It was insane, and a lot of fun!
After this you enter the castle area and wind your way up a hill. There's not exactly a clear path, but I think most players will figure it out (If you are encountering enemies, you are going the right way, just like real life). Then after a few hard waves, there's the boss. The boss is suprisingly different than other custom bosses, as she will jump and dodge most attacks, though I didn't exactly find it hard, per se, but very fun.
So I finally got around to playing this map, and it was something. A good word for it is "intense" as there's a lot to unpack here.
The level itself is pretty large, probably one of the larger maps I've played in SS, though this isn't a bad thing. It took me about an hour and a half to clear (unfortuantely theres no stats after the game). Most of that was spent hunting for the pumpkins. Thankfully, if you are missing a green pumpkin, the green pumpkin altar will shine beacons to show you the locations (there is one behind the altar area). This i thought was a weak point of the map, but still quite fun as the pumpkins arent really hidden, you just need to look.
I think it's a good example of how to make ENORMOUS waves of enemies right: Only spawning enemies in front of the player, give a lot of space to move and powerful weapons to actually be able to deal with the waves (yes, it's basically SS4 formula, but sometime I feel not everyone uderstand that)
I also thought that the final boss was really interesting. Despite the fact that it's 3D model is SO not Serious Sam (but I'm personally fine with it), it's combat style of not using any projectiles and constantly jumping arround to dodge and surprise attack the player seam totally unique to my knowledge. During my first couple of tries, I actually felt like I was duelling the enemy, instead of just shooting a big bullet sponge
Really good map, not perfect for sure (some parts can feel less inspired), but it do it's job well enough
