For some reason the clouds load weirdly, like only sideways and in one specific spot on the surface near the ground, i have it set to 900km and used the real solar systems editor which shouldnt conflict

yeah, I've heard that before, don't know why it happens with that mod. you'll probably have to spawn it in manually then or use the console spawn planets mod

Ok so this planet spawns with its rings sideways to planets "orbit" when using the star system designer tool. Is that normal?

not really. I get that bug too with large planets, I don't think there's any solution besides making the planet a little bit smaller. It's probably best to set this one to like 900 km instead of 1000, I feel like 1000 is about the point where it starts breaking more often

Beautiful mod, but quick question. When I see my gas giant, it usually works, but sometimes its like the graphics for it wont load so it has a jagged edge and its basically transparent in a large portion. Any idea why this happens?

I understand it doesn't have a texture for the surface because no one will see it but it throws a lot of errors trying to get the height map and texture.

It's impossible to make the atmosphere and clouds completely opaque, so the surface needs to be quite high up for it to look good from a distance. It's supposed to be spawned in at ~1000km, then you get at least 20 kms or so of atmosphere.

I'm having trouble getting it to have an actual atmosphere, whenever I try to spawn it either using WordgenPlugin or Star System Generator it always has about 2 feet of atmosphere before being nothing but solid . Feels less like a gas giant and more like a big planet. Anyway around this? Am I doing something Wrong?

I did a little testing and spawned in some vanilla default planets in the star system designer plugin and they correctly line up with Luma (poles aligning with the rings and clouds) so it seems the default ecliptic in the star system designer is incorrect and nothing to do with you planet mod!

I didn't think it was possible to rotate planets at all tbh. There's definitely no way to change the angle of the whole planet in the mod. Is it only the ring, or also the clouds on the planet? The ring model is quite old and I only copy/pasted it over

Love this gas giant. So good. One little thing, when using it in conjunction with the star system designer plugin, it always spawns in at 90deg from the default ecliptic so getting the moons to line up with the rings is a really fiddly. Is this a system designer issue or is there potentially a default placement setting in the planet file that could address this?

The Screenshot value of this planet is unlike anything else on the workshop, thanks for creating this. Really makes me nostalgic for the game Hellion, which had a similar but purple/pink Gas Giant.

That's a problem the game has with textures bigger than 2048px. It does what you said, but for whatever reason it's only affecting some players, others not at all. Dedicated servers seem to have a lot fewer problems than local mp too. I can't fix it unfortunately and reducing the texture size to 2048px makes it look like a potato.

wether you can spawn on it or not is not saved in the planet file. There a file called RespawnShips.sbc that handles what respawn ship can spawn where, but it only looks at atmospheric density. I don't think it's possible to prevent the spawn on this planet specifically by just changing that file. There's probably a way with plugins or scripting, but that's above me.

There's an issue with any textures larger than 2048x2048 px. It doesn't cause a crash for everyone, but some people seem to be effected. I can't fix that. I can only reduce the texture size to 2048, but then the planet would look like trash, so I'm not gonna do that.

i want to make a gas giant! Imagine gliding around with the aero dynamics mod with an ore detector on your ship in the clouds. and then you find a spire reaching up into the clouds and a floating asteroid.

The multiplayer bug can unfortunately only be solved 3 ways:
-Reduce cloud resolution
-Use more advanced compression algorithm on the clouds to reduce their data size
-Report it as a bug to Keen and hope by 2024 they fix it

If you can put a bug report in the description, I'm sure the people who use Luma would love to upvote it, at the very least.

I can't, the only way would be to remove the cloud layer and then it's just a green ball with no texture. I don't know why custom clouds cause these issues for some people, but I can't fix it without removing them.

Fair enough, I'm just glad its not game breaking, and only seems to be effecting Luma's weather.
