The mod isn't working for me. Am I missing something? I have a lot of other mods but this one is at the bottom of my load order. When my character dies, it just says game over and that I died without an heir; no option to "choose my primary heir".

The mod seems to be working as of 1.11 (without any other mods). For those interested - Inherichance mod will partially work if loaded before this mod, i.e. only some gold inheritance options work. Inherichance transfers the gold immediately after your ruler’s death, so your choice of heir will not affect that, therefore “spoilation” rule will not work. “Player Heir on partition inheritance” game rules don’t seem to work at all, as Inherichance is quite outdated.

(tested with 867 East Francia)

Hope an update is coming soon

I really like this idea! However, primary heir and player heir are two different things. The mod should say "choose your Player Heir" not primary heir. Cool mod!

window_succession_event.gui needs an update after 1.6 it actually needed an update after 1.5.1 already
AzeriFighter95 16 May, 2022 @ 2:48pm
is this compatible with inherichance?
ReMeDy 1 Mar, 2022 @ 1:51pm
@ FunGaming44 Keep in mind too if you hit ESC there's a "Switch character" button. You don't even have to exit to the main menu to use it.
FunGaming44 28 Feb, 2022 @ 4:18pm
@Lrds Is there anyway you can make it so I can also continue as other relatives and not just brothers and sisters.

Example: My Character the king dies and my son inherits my titles but I would like to continue as the brother of the character that died which would make that character the uncle of the heir. Is this possible to get that working ??
Muad'dib 12 Feb, 2022 @ 9:10pm
Amazing mod, thanks !

Folio_Nov9m 25 Jan, 2022 @ 4:20am
Oh this is amazing!
Many times it happened that I looked at the younger heir and thought that he was more worthy!
Thanks!

Am I getting it right that you can use it with ironman just won't get achievements?
Will it be updated after Royal Court?
A Good Boy 3 Oct, 2021 @ 5:53pm
Is there an option too inherit all your land as the heir you chose? Or does everything become split?
Algebraist 12 Jul, 2021 @ 4:38am
"Thanks to various people on the forums for giving me the idea."

Haha shut up you. Ideas are easy, making them real is hard. Thanks for the great mod! Makes it so much more enjoyable to follow the fun line with the fun story.

Will this mod work for playing as a non-dynastic heir? Ended up losing all my boys and stuck playing an older female child that's already 40 years old who'd already been in a regular marriage and has a great son, but he's part of her husband's dynasty. As of right now he's going to inherit most of the titles when she dies, and there's very little chance i have time to get her divorced or widowed, remarried matrilineally and knocked up lol
FunGaming44 30 Jun, 2021 @ 4:29am
Is there anyway you can make it so you can choose any character to continue with not just your kids, like example: I die but want to continue as my uncle, or I die but want to continue as my rival from a complete different dynasty who was after my throne for so long it would deifnitely make the mod even better with extra choices without having to go into entire menu thing where you normaly pick a different character and it would be a bit more immersive
rayancoelho 13 Jun, 2021 @ 7:56pm
thank you for updating the file, your mod is A++
Jasper 13 Jun, 2021 @ 2:51am
It sucks that you can't play a son you landed before the new generation takes over, I've got a mod that let's me abdicate at 1000 prestige and I wanted my youngest son to inherit Austria so I landed him even though it wasn't his birthright but his big brother's, but by doing that when I abdicated I couldn't choose to play as him... Is this "fixable" or is it impossible to make it work so we can choose to play already landed heirs?
Tot 12 Jun, 2021 @ 6:07pm
Not "bland at the top". You get to pick from all the high born hotties!
Lrds  [author] 12 Jun, 2021 @ 6:18am
It works for 1.4 - the game just didn't know about that.
Updated its descriptor file.
rayancoelho 10 Jun, 2021 @ 2:51pm
are you updating the mod to 1.4?
Garwel 4 Jun, 2021 @ 11:42pm
This mod's feature to play as a random child should be in vanilla (maybe grandchildren should also be included). It makes the game so much more interesting and sensible.

In vanilla, you usually see your children beyond the heir as merely alliance opportunities at best. You don't really care about their traits, skills and well-being. In fact you are better off if they are stupid, unpopular and sick because they will give your heir less trouble in the future. But this is not how things work(ed) in real life. The "veil of ignorance" that this mod brings makes you think about ensuring a good upbringing for your kids.

Another thing I like is that you now aren't destined to always play as a powerful ruler (that I usually become within a generation or two after start). The game gets a bit bland after you've reached the top, so I welcome more challenge. It also adds to immersion as you actually feel for that youngest son of a king jealous for his older brothers who all got better lands.

cool!

this works for mp?

I haven't tried the mod yet, but this is fantastic!

There have been times I'd have preferred to play with another heir and wasn't able to kill off the primary, or I did and created more of a mess than I intended. Now I can do that without the risk of weakening the dynasty.

In regards to the gold, splitting sounds good but the primary should probably get a higher % than say the youngest of six? I guess you could do some estate planning ahead of time and start gifting that heir gold and hope they don't spend it before you die and take over that character?

Hello, I would like to know if this mod could be used to be added to a total conversion mod that I'm working on. The name of the mod is Tales Of Ireland (not published yet but we have a discord). Of course you and your mod will be credited. I'm waiting for your answer, have a nice day.
kgptzac 30 Jan, 2021 @ 1:53am
I think splitting gold is a sound idea just by itself... would be a good game rule option if possible.
Lrds  [author] 24 Jan, 2021 @ 6:13am
Sadly, there are no script commands to do stuff with MAA... And just splitting the gold, well I don't know.
Lewa263 8 Jan, 2021 @ 10:12am
What happens with the gold and Men at Arms of the dying ruler? In the base game, the primary heir gets all of that and others start from scratch. With this mod, is that still the case, or do things transfer to the chosen heir?

In either case, I think a nice complement to this mod would be one that splits the treasury among all heirs. It seems goofy that land must be shared, but only the eldest child gets any monetary inheritance.
ReMeDy 30 Nov, 2020 @ 2:12am
It's funny because I was looking to try this in vanilla CK3 before I even knew about this mod and wondered where the option was. I literally couldn't believe it wasn't in the game that I was using wiki's and hunting for it on-and-off for hours, kinda like how I didn't know I could change my commander or where the button was to move my capital, so I just thought I was overlooking something. Nope, Paradox just didn't think to add it.

Thanks for the mod. Have a golden unicorn award.
harryytc 28 Nov, 2020 @ 6:58pm
Paradox should add this function:steamfacepalm:
Lrds  [author] 26 Nov, 2020 @ 10:16am
@MachEvil: Yes it is.
Whismirk 26 Nov, 2020 @ 1:55am
Wanted this since CK2. This is awesome. Thank you for your work !
MachEvil 25 Nov, 2020 @ 7:15pm
Is this compatible with the new update?
Shoplifting Victim 25 Nov, 2020 @ 1:38pm
love your mods, they add a ton of much needed changes and extra roleplaying flavor to offset how easy the game can get. thanks!
Waker 25 Nov, 2020 @ 10:13am
Looking at these pictures and thinking about that phrase "if you want the option to continue as someone else feel more like an actual game mechanic" makes me want to see the ability to continue playing as one of the vassals in your realm when you die. Or one of your courtiers, or a vassal's courtier.

This would really take the "play as anyone" concept pretty far and make for some interesting playthrough as you explore how easily or difficult you can navigate through life in your realm as different people in it.
orostopat 24 Nov, 2020 @ 5:48am
this mod is excellent they need saw this mod to paradox
kevensmhith 23 Nov, 2020 @ 10:20pm
Basically cheats
MisterUlysses 23 Nov, 2020 @ 10:16am
Holy god damn, this was at the top of my wishlist for CK3 and I was sad to see it ignored. Finally I can ignore my hideous, imbecile heir and play as my gigachad genius second born and just plot an uprising like what usually happened instead of roleplaying as the most infanticidal dynasty in history.

Cheers!
Ambitions 22 Nov, 2020 @ 2:45pm
Its a nice feature but no need to further clutter rules menu for a niche feature.
Lrds  [author] 22 Nov, 2020 @ 9:37am
I just added a random child button. Should there also be a game rule that forces the player to always choose a random child? It might be interesting because it forces you to treat all your children well, however an extra game rule might be unnecessary. What do you think?
Lrds  [author] 22 Nov, 2020 @ 1:20am
Yes and no. The mod gives you the option to switch to all characters that inherit one or more titles on ruler death. So if only your top title is elective and you still have some kind of partition, you'll be able to switch. Same if you have multiple elective titles that go to different character.
crazyherakles1453 21 Nov, 2020 @ 7:33pm
I assume this mod isn't going to work if you have Primogeniture or Elective type Successions, right? I feel like this mod would go amazingly with Rise to Power.
JxSlayz666 20 Nov, 2020 @ 11:51pm
i literally tried to do this. I wanted to Take normandy as the norse, which I did. Then tried to give up the empire of scandinavia, to only keep part of Denmark, and normandy. I couldn't because I can't get rid of my main title. I figured the only way to do this would be to play as the child that keeps normandy and denmark but had no idea how that could be possible.
OPB 20 Nov, 2020 @ 11:30pm
Amazing stuff!
