Sweet. Glad you got it to load! If you're talking about the one on the image on this page, I used bucket fill for the paper map. Land one color and water another. If you're talking about the one Crusader Universalis uses, you'd have to ask Robska. I did not make that one. Coats of arms are autogenerated if there isn't one defined so the game does that automatically for you.

I wonder how you generated the paper map though, I could not find appropriate textures in the folder so I guess I will have to do hand painting or symbol generation with Qgis ?

Anyway, thanks for your help ! I could get my whole world Miller to load !

I finally managed somehow to in increase the size to 16384x8192, going piece by piece. I notices only the map_data files (river, provinces) actually need full size. Heightmap looks best with highest resolution but can also work with a different one. Regarding the trees masks, I had to maintain 1/4 so they display, but the terrain texture masks I could not increase to this size without crashing. I guess one file becomes too big, probably the flatmap.dds with 512Mb at this size, so I kept them to the vanilla resolution (1/4 instead of 1/2 to the new resolution).

By the way, i noticed the mod New Miller Projection had managed to reach this resolution as well.

@humbleacadie There is an upper limit for the map size. The dimensions here were about as close as I could get without the game crashing on me so 16,384 x 8,192 is probably bigger than the CK3 engine can handle (unless something has changed in the last few years).

For the smaller size, did you resize all of the other map image files like rivers, terrain, cloudmap, etc.? When you resize a map those also have to be resized to the appropriate dimensions. Some are 1/2 scale from the province map, some 1/4, etc.

Hey, fellow modder here asking for help. I was trying to set a 16384 x 8192 (Project Caesar size) and then downscaled to a 12284 x 6144 map with Miller projection… either way the game crashes all the time, I guess due to the size limit of some files (I suspect DDS).
Have you by any chance found out if there is a limit size and / or if some files (foam_map…) need not be upscaled otherwise the game stops loading ?

@Inejiro Gaming @K5 Sure, go for it! This is meant to be a starting place for other mods, not a playable mod in and of itself.

To everybody else, I am no longer actively working on the mod as I have moved on to other projects. However, if somebody does get it working for the latest version of the game and wants to share the update, DM me on discord and I'll upload the new version. If you want to take over mod maintenance, I can add you as a contributor.

This map is free for public use.

I just wish someone would make a Northern American West Coast map out in 1200 AD or something, all just Natives. That would be fun. I know about the one down in Central America with the Mayans and that one was just awesome, but Northern America would be better I think.

The mod still works if you roll back CK3 to 1.7.2. Just be aware that most of the world is a generic test culture and religion and even some vanilla cultures are either absent or not where they should be. Despite the CU team opting to go with the Rajas of Asia map, I still see a ton of potential in this mod and hope that the dev continues to update it or another team takes it up as their base map.

@AtomicBlastPony You can define the impassible provinces to be whatever color you want. I used #323232. Those coastal areas are spots where the map didn't line up exactly and I never went back to fix it manually.

@kjconlon94 This is strictly meant as a modding tool. I unfortunately do not have the time to fill out the rest of the world. Rest assured thought that the Crusader Universalis team is working on just that.

@Vikingr I think you'll find that's the case with basically every Paradox game.

@sworthington09 The Crusader Universalis team is building on this map.

@King of Winter Tree data was color selected from a satellite map and unfortunately the HRE was not known for its space program.

@Kuromegane Not at all. The EU4 engine cannot handle a map larger than 50MB as a .bmp file and this would be several hundred.

@Son_of_Cthulhu I still don't get why they did that to the province map. If it was a WIP they'd have continuous "finished" and "unfinished" areas, rather than leaving random uncolored spots all over the map. Sounds like it's an issue with what they DID rather than with what they DIDN'T do.

What's going on with the map? Wiki says #000000 is for impassable areas but here it's used for some areas on the coast not filled in with provinces, and Aral Sea for some reason?? And actual impassable areas are #323232?
I tried to boot the game up with just this mod to check and it crashes on startup.

@GenerationR That is because this is a modding resource. If you would like to play a map with content, I suggest you check out the Crusader Universalis mod which uses this map and starts in the year 1444.
