@Box.rekt: Not quite; despite the inherent rating model problems - votes are still a yardstick of popularity - and by extension a litmus test of commercial viability. Having said that, you could get 10,000 votes and still not get in the game if your item fails to meet specific criteria. Hence my advice to focus on things you can change - (making your item the best it can be), and pay little attention to the things you can't.

@The Honey Badger So does it mean that even if I only have little votes but my item catches valve's attention it can be in game?

I bought 3 of the same exact sticker and a name tag and used the all on my StatTrak MAC-10 Heat.

@Box.rekt: It's always nice to get positive feedback, however the reality is ratings are completely arbitrary: subjective, and often skewed by actions of political self interest - ie. comment spam: 'I voted for you, now you vote for me' - regardless of whether you think that item should be in the game. Ratings are useful in bringing attention to an item, but they have no impact whatsoever on the quality of the actual submitted content . What I believe matters most is the 'objective': the content itself, its quality - and how it fits in with its environment - whether that be physically in game or amongst other items . Focus on that instead and make sure you do the very best with each submission.

@Hipster If you go here at the bottom is a list of free applications, I used SSBump. I don't know much about normal mapping to be honest, I was just experimenting to see what came out. I tried 10 different settings and chose the best result, which admittedly is a tad coarse but works. It might be a case of researching how the different colours affect the normal directions and then manually fiddling in photoshop to dramaticise certain heights. Have a play...
