Probably not, however there is a Chi-Rho shield depicted in the San Vitale Justinian mosaic which is held by possibly a Excubitor.
Schnell_Scheisse 11 Aug, 2024 @ 9:42am
Some historians think the Chi-Rho's were only painted during the Constantine civil wars to make identification of friendly forces easier. I think there's no Chi-Rho symbols depicted in the Notitia Dignitatum.
piratefromrussiaoriginal 10 Aug, 2024 @ 5:06pm
Why remove Chi Rho from the shields? I'll never understand it. It's beautiful, historically. Why?
Reina 21 Dec, 2023 @ 2:46pm
oh that makes alot of sense, thanks!
tbh I think doing solid colours for the officer shields would probably be best in that case, love the mod btw, can't play without it lol
Imperial Italic G  [author] 21 Dec, 2023 @ 2:36pm
It has to do with the limitations of the game, as each unit doesn't have their own unique officer put towards them and share the same file with the rest of the other units.
Reina 17 Dec, 2023 @ 5:24pm
why are the unit leader's shields mismatched from the rest of the unit typically?
Imperial Italic G  [author] 20 Mar, 2023 @ 9:31pm
It is most likely to do with the in game settings as this mod is purely graphical in nature.
AtomicKnight 20 Mar, 2023 @ 8:32pm
Why are the unit size so low?
Imperial Italic G  [author] 2 Jan, 2023 @ 4:56pm
Interesting. The T pose bug is due to the game not recognizing the changed skin from the programmed one used in vanilla. However I wouldn't believe that it would cause a game crash as this mod is purely graphical and does not mangle with the game's code outside of that. It is likely probably a mod conflict causing this issue. That as well I have not updated the generals in awhile. The recent update is mainly just twerking some of the unit outlooks and relocating the eastern camel unit into another mod of mine focusing the desert factions. Apart from that if you are running this and the other mods of mine solely then sending a screenshot of the general in question would be helpful as most of the generals if not all of them have some sort of 'golden' element in their helms.
LeeCaesar 2 Jan, 2023 @ 4:02am
hi, I noticed a bug in recent update, I know my general's outlook will change by increasing rank, but once the character has "golden helmet", the character model on campaign map will be defaulted--- he will stand on shield and open arms. The worst thing follows after he engages a battle, the game will just shut down. Can you check and fix that? I really love your mode. Many thanks. cheers
Sanakan 22 Oct, 2022 @ 9:45am
Imperial, loved this reskin too. But are the Scholae Gentiles supposed to be so armoured? Considering they're light shock cav.
anve 25 Sep, 2022 @ 2:09am
Hello, first of all, excellent mod! One question. A lot of people use Athanasios' Attila Ultimate Fixes and it seems some textures like white "shirts" overlaps with Brown "shirts" on some roman units. Other thing, I noi longer see any mail coifs on Roman units, did you managed to remove them ?(which is good as mail coifs were not a thing during that time period).
Megarian 15 Aug, 2022 @ 11:38pm
Best skins in Total War Attila !
gh0st_inthe_SYSTEM03 9 Apr, 2022 @ 10:25pm
Hey man. That was a quick fix for the Sogdian Camel Raiders haha. I did not expect that. Anyways, I hope you develop this mod further if you do plan on it. Thanks again man!

P.S. I hope the Draco banners get fixed soon
Imperial Italic G  [author] 9 Apr, 2022 @ 7:50pm
Well I'll be sure to look into the issue with the Sogdians. As for the weird Darco banners those are the only ones available in vanilla. They only fixed the issue with the launch of the Empire Divided DLC. Now that you mention it I think it will be a good idea to add it to the other version of the mod with Celticus' shields.
gh0st_inthe_SYSTEM03 9 Apr, 2022 @ 6:06pm
Hey I just wanna say that I love your mod and it made my vanilla campaign playthrough even more fun with these historically accurate skins of each unit/faction. Anyway, I spotted an issue when I was playing a custom battle last night and its with the Sogdian Camel units. Most of the models are missing and only a few of them show up. Also, I have a question regarding the Draco standards. Why don't they have those.....sock-like things at the end? is it because of a modding limitation or something? Thanks
Clockwork 24 Jan, 2022 @ 4:48pm
I want to mostly have the vanilla experience this play-through, but the units make my eyes bleed, so thanks for saving me from the disgusting vanilla units skins.
Julius 4 Jan, 2022 @ 2:05pm
i have checked the celticus version and would say the shields there are a lot better, i guess the white in vanilla attilla norse shields is just a bit too grating for me ahaha. i will try celticus out for now then.
SoberShober 21 Dec, 2021 @ 12:40am
Glad I have found your Reskin collection before my next playthrough
Imperial Italic G  [author] 20 Dec, 2021 @ 10:51am
Well unfortunately I won't be changing the shields. As they also make a good impression of the massive Germanic influence that would have been on the Roman Army at the time. If you seriously don't like them and wouldn't have it any other way then the version of the mod with Celticus shields might be of interest to you.
Julius 8 Dec, 2021 @ 11:08am
Hey imperial, bit of a late reply to the answers you gave to my question, but i just wanted to say two things: first, thanks for explaining the various aspects of your design decision, second, by "nordic" i meant the nordic paint scheme the vanilla nordic factions use, the differing parts of red and white on the shield. my main complaint with those was that a whole unit of round shields in this paint scheme looks a little irritating, so i was wondering if it would be possible to add more variety of shield paintings to the comitatenses in the future.
Moriarty 21 Jul, 2021 @ 10:49pm
ok nice to hear it:-)
Imperial Italic G  [author] 21 Jul, 2021 @ 3:25pm
If I am going to do that it would be its own separate mod so I wouldn't worry about it. Also if I was to give the main mod those shields It wouldn't live up to its name of being vanilla.
Moriarty 21 Jul, 2021 @ 11:48am
Celticus shilds are nice but buggy because they are simply too large for the animations of Attila and they just flicker , units just go through the shields, please do not give units those shields , I am against that idea , but good mod so far , I see you are getting better and better creating this mod
Voodoo 19 Jul, 2021 @ 2:06am
@QuinnDecima Celticus shields would be great for this mod. There are also more resources on twcenter http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?692423-Texture-Resource-Roman-Shield-Patterns .

I just hope that blue shield gets updated so we got more variety haha. Otherwise, great mod.
Helghan 9 Jul, 2021 @ 4:33am
I adjust some shields patterns to my taste. But i say it again: Your reskin overhaul to all roman vanilla units is very good and feels more historical. I add futhermore the romani unit pack for more variation. but vanilla units have your reskin. thank you for that. the game immersion is much better. i wonder from time to time why CA puts so little effort in the unit details and the modders fix that many years later.
Imperial Italic G  [author] 8 Jul, 2021 @ 8:57pm
Yes I must get doing that at some point but Im focused on twerking the mod at the moment and making the Pagan version of the mod. However I will be very interested in making a version of probably both versions of this mod having them.
QuinnDecima 8 Jul, 2021 @ 7:57am
Hi Imperial have you considered adding celticus hd shields to your mod I believe these oval shields suit the romans quite well they even have space for the supposed plumbata darts.
Imperial Italic G  [author] 6 Jul, 2021 @ 9:51pm
As to the two previous questions. First as to why some archer units don't have quivers I do not know. Could you post a list of the units that have this issue? It would be a great help as to which don't have them otherwise I can always check myself.

Secondly apart from shield patterns there was no proper uniform in the army even with elite units and higher ranks. Much of what soldiers wore was down to personal preference, what they could get their hands on, or what they were issued. This issue too would not be uniform with the state factories producing different kinds of armour across the empire.
Imperial Italic G  [author] 6 Jul, 2021 @ 9:34pm
Well for your first question why the Western Legio Comitatensis have a round 'Nordic' shield is because the pattern is listed in the Notitia Dignitatum document belonging to the unit called Septimani Iuniores a Comitatensis unit. As to regards to the Chi Rho patterns there is no unit in the document assigned a Chi Rho pattern. As to why I give the numeroi a Chi Rho shield is because they were inspired by a 'modern' illustration of a 6th century Imperial guardsmen. As to the West lacking Christian iconography is simple, Christianity during this period was more prominent in the East then West with many in the West a good example being the Senate in the city of Rome still worshipping Paganism. As to your last question the Elite Palatina have a shield pattern which could be seen as a angel and therefore Christian, but there is a lot Pagan art depicting angel like figures so I could be wrong.
Julius 6 Jul, 2021 @ 3:39am
Hello, been playing mainly with the western romans using this mod and two questions came to my
mind(not bugs, just regarding aesthetics) : Why do Western Legio comitatensis use round shields with the nordic pattern compared to the larger oval shield eastern comitatensis use? Also, are there any western units that still have christian insignia (other than sails and standards). Just thought it's a bit of a shame that the pagan version has much cooler shield designs. Is the Chi Rho on shields ahistorical or why is the west so devoid of christian iconography?
Voodoo 5 Jul, 2021 @ 11:48am
Hey! I see now that some archers got quivers, but not others. Is that by design? If not, I think you might got some clipping issues. Also, all officers got this blue shield now, a little more shield variation would perfect
QuinnDecima 5 Jul, 2021 @ 1:08am
Hi is it possible to have more uniform equipment for elite specialist units (e.g. armigeri defensores, elite palatina, palatina, protectores domestici, numeroi, herculani senores) I mean they were elite units and were probably afforded more uniform equipment (helmet & armor style) for their status.
Imperial Italic G  [author] 1 Jul, 2021 @ 9:00pm
As I have said before most skirmisher units not just in the Roman empire but in the wider world throughout history tended to wear little to no armor as the role required them to be flexible and do a lot of movement.
roxyfish 1 Jul, 2021 @ 4:06am
could you add lorica amata to matiari and sagittarii because are more beautiful?
Imperial Italic G  [author] 9 Jun, 2021 @ 10:10pm
Alright. I'll try doing that. Also the archers should have quivers as well, not sure if I removed them or something but I will try to resolve that issue.
Voodoo 9 Jun, 2021 @ 12:32pm
Just a little bit of further feedback; would it be possible to add quivers to the archers?
Voodoo 8 Jun, 2021 @ 5:22am
If you use Skidvar's generals overhaul and load it before this mod you wont have the T-pose problem. SHould work as a substitute until you find a solution Imperial italic G
Imperial Italic G  [author] 23 May, 2021 @ 9:17pm
Well thank you for the comment I very much appreciate the support I have gotten despite the mod having its problems like that weird T Pose glitch. Which at some point I need to fix especially when I finish the other mod Im working on.
Yo Gabba Gabba! 23 May, 2021 @ 4:36pm
I have been periodically checking the workshop for years, hoping for an update to Attila mods, something in the vein of DeI for Rome II.

I studied Late Antiquity in grad school. Every time I am picking my way through the Cambridge Ancient or Medieval encyclopedias, or a 600 page book by Brown, Cameron or Mills, I wish I could unwind by playing a deeply detailed TW Attila mod. lol My supervisor would probably write you an angry letter if he knew this is why I was so distracted. Job very well done.

As a historian, and fan of the series it sometimes feels CA has left behind for the Chinese market and Warhammer IP, thank you. I can tell this was a labour of love and I want you to know how appreciated it is.
Imperial Italic G  [author] 12 May, 2021 @ 2:21pm
Well. I might make a version with those shields at some point in the future. However I want to finish another mod I am working on first and probably a few others reskining other factions in the game.
twilightgraphix15 8 May, 2021 @ 9:15am
posted in the wrong mod, but this is also a very good reskin im just now noticing rep too u mod creator

Arbiter Thel Mar 29 @ 9:16pm
this is a great reskin, but if i can make a suggestion for the shields: using Stealth4health or celticus's roman shield models? they replace the CA vanilla Pringles shields with proper large convex ovals shields. they even have the plumbata straps on some of them. they even have custom emblems. again just a suggestion to make this mod even better in my opinion :)

agreed myself and many others like the shield but its too big and clips. if stealth4health are the shields from the constantine mod then i agree they are prob more accurate but also too small, id love to see one day somone split the difference and make more accurate models. i agree making a seperate version would appeal to everyone
Helghan 5 Apr, 2021 @ 2:19am
Very good reskin, especially for Eastern Roman Empire. I love it.
The helmet and armour sets are well chosen.
I personally adjustet some shields from lanciarii and eastern armor legio.
Imperial Italic G  [author] 2 Apr, 2021 @ 12:15pm
Probably. I will try to do the grand campaign first. Then I will focus on the two other campaigns.
ScoobyDooVillain593 2 Apr, 2021 @ 6:10am
Excellent work! Best Roman mod out there imo. Do you think you'll ever do a reskin for the Last Roman DLC faction? I'd imagine the units are very similar in style!
Imperial Italic G  [author] 1 Apr, 2021 @ 8:55pm
Well I will probably make a version of this mod including them at a later date. However I am primary focused on creating a German mod to go along with this.
TallestDavid 1 Apr, 2021 @ 1:59pm
good stuff. what i wanted. now you need the accurate shields like from rome total war barbarian invasion and the bent oval large ones that i havent seen modded yet
Arbiter Thel 29 Mar, 2021 @ 6:16pm

Well good news. I have fixed the Herculiani Seniores bug. As for the Matiari and Exculcatores, skirmishers tended to wear little to no armour as their role often required them to be fast and mobile in nature on the battlefield as well as in skirmishes. The only exceptions would probably be during operations in fortifications where troops were generally more heavily armoured then their campaigning counterparts due to a variety of reasons.
