Although it may be a thing in vanilla, I'll report it here in case it is this mod. For fathers' names that end with an S, their son's last names have a triple S, for instance "Nilssson" or "Martinussson".

Also, I miss that More Character Names mod as well... @Renown you should really try to reupload it!

Save game compatiible?

@rahko sadly that one that added all the culture names was deleted. If you could add more, or do one for Anglo-Saxons too it would be awesome

@Renown you think you can reupload it for the boys?
Renown 15 Jan @ 4:26pm
fair enough. I had a copy on my PC anyhow and loaded it for me.
Catka 15 Jan @ 8:24am
@Rahko : sorry about that!

Hmm...I haven't done anything to this mod for a long time. 🤔 I may have seen that other mod that adds more character names to all cultures, but I have nothing to do with that one.
Catka 13 Jan @ 12:23pm
:( Is there a reason the More Character Names disappeared?
Renown 10 Jan @ 7:14pm
Not sure if it was your mod that was "More Character Names" but if it was, and you pulled it... lmao, wish you hadn't. Just wrecked my save.

can you make a mod like this for all cultures ?
tilarium 11 Mar, 2024 @ 4:54pm
Why? Ignore the stupid yellow triangle, the mod doesn't need an update.
PhazezGova 11 Mar, 2024 @ 3:56pm
Update?

It's a matter of taste. Swedish used the Danish form for the longest of time. I believe there are enough indigenous names with either lost meanings or some symbolic meaning for both the Sami and Finnish cultures. Vanilla also have a lot of issues with this.
Rahko  [author] 16 Feb, 2022 @ 4:38pm
@Virrey
Yeah, there are problems like that. I could maybe run through the names again, cleaning them a bit. Although there is the dilemma of removing too many names also rendering the mod kind of useless altogether, but I'll see how much of a compromise has to be done. Ö not being used in Sweden before the 14th century was a new thing to me. Or, I mean, obviously the Scandinavians used runes instead of Latin letters, but I thought using Ö would be okay for romanization of those names.

If I were to give any constructive critisism it's that the vast majority of the names added are christian names or names with origins from Germanic cultures for the Balto-Finnic and mostly modern spellings of old names for the Scandis. Unless you're able to tell, it's not gonna bother you, but if you do it's gonna be weird to see courtiers and children called things like Margareeta, Topias, Hauka in pagan Finland, or Hánná, Isaak, Sofé, Kirste in Pagan Sapmi, or names with Ö in Sweden before the late 14th century. It's just a tiny thing ofc.

Great work!

Updated for Royal Court!

In my error.log file, I have 1,809 errors like this; [14:47:08][culture_names.cpp:103]: Missing loc for name 'Aada' in culture 'finnish'. I am thinking that is one error for every norse name. Do these errors matter? Thank you

thx!

This needs an update asap.

@CyberEagle Thanks for letting me know! I've been busy with other stuff, so I haven't been able to keep everything up to date. I'll look into it some time in the future.
CyberEagle 26 Mar, 2021 @ 5:03pm
Not fully compatible with 1.3/Northern Lords. Makes it so the Ásatrú faith uses its previous tenets, probably due to your religion file edit.
Rahko  [author] 23 Dec, 2020 @ 4:30am
@Thomas Oak Yes, it's very strange that the original names there have those strange codes for all special characters, but when manually adding more, they can be just like that and they work in game. :D
Thomas Oak 22 Dec, 2020 @ 10:36am
Does this actually work in game? You would usually write names like Óðinn as something like O_inn in the culture file and then in the localisation file have the line
O_inn:0 "Óðinn" for the game to use the special characters.

Nice!
