Doesn't seem to work. Probably too old?
Spades 15 Mar, 2016 @ 12:42am
Any chance you could do the same mod, but so you start with an extra settler?

If anyone is having trouble with this mod, here's some instructions on how to modify your game files so that you start with a worker without having to download the mod - very easy, and you won't mess up your game (as long as you don't deviate from the instructions).

In your XML folder (for those with BNW, it's located here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\sid meier's civilization v\Assets\DLC\Expansion2\Gameplay\XML\GameInfo) open up the CIV5Eras XML file.

Under "ERA_ANCIENT", which should be the first era settings entry, find this line:

<StartingWorkerUnits>0</StartingWorkerUnits>

Change it to

<StartingWorkerUnits>1</StartingWorkerUnits>

Save and exit the file, and your game should now give you a starting worker by default when you start in the Ancient era. Keep in mind that this will break multiplayer compatibility.

PART 2:

FYI - if you want to change any of your "starting loadout", you can modify each of these lines:

<StartingDefenseUnits>1</StartingDefenseUnits>...this is your starting warrior
<StartingWorkerUnits>0</StartingWorkerUnits>...self explanatory
<StartingExploreUnits>0</StartingExploreUnits>...this would be your scout
<StartingGold>0</StartingGold>...you can start with gold!
<StartingCulture>0</StartingCulture>...you can start with culture!

Hope it helps! One last piece of advice... if you ever do modify the game's base files, make a copy of the original before you do so just in case you need to revert back quickly.

This completely stopped working for me. Uninstall and reinstall failed to bring it back. Any ideas?

In that case: Thank you, crazy Scotsman!
rdenni 5 Oct, 2015 @ 6:27pm
Didn't work for me. I'm on Vanilla with the Ghengis Khan DLC.
thecrazyscotsman  [author] 5 Oct, 2015 @ 5:36am
It should provide a starting worker to all civs in play.
erk 30 Sep, 2015 @ 12:20pm
Just the mod I was looking for. Or is it?

This has been asked before, alas, no answer has been given, so I'll ask again: Does this mod provide a starting worker to the player ONLY, or to ALL CIVS in play?

I love the idea of not having to build your 1st worker, but I hate the idea of cheating on the AI.
mrbl11b 17 Sep, 2015 @ 12:09pm
Is this a joke?

Doesn't work
FishRaposo 28 Oct, 2014 @ 1:25pm
is this mod incompatible with anything?
Strider_Killer 3 Oct, 2014 @ 7:35pm
"Can I have some shoes?"
Shadevar 23 May, 2014 @ 9:13am
Does this also give the AI a free worker?
Mouseagull 18 May, 2014 @ 2:17pm
Thanks! I'll give it a go and see if that works.
thecrazyscotsman  [author] 18 May, 2014 @ 1:37pm
@Nuka-Social - Try opening the file with Notepad, or even better download Notepad++ and use that to modify the xml files.

I came here to see if this was the cause behind my game crashes on every second turn I made, and according to the comments it most likely is the reason behind it. So I went and did what you said right down below, and for me it just brings up a page from Internet Explorer. The page seems to be everything I outta be modifing down below, but I can only view it, and the few things I can click on are just extensions and junk, which only shows more stuff I can't click on. I run on Windows 8, on a pretty laptop that is apprantly amazing. Care to solve this mystery for me? :P

I don't know why this mod would cause your game to crash. buzzshiza 30 Mar, 2014 @ 8:13pm
Very helpful, and frees up a different social policy in the early game. Endorsed!
Doctor G 22 Mar, 2014 @ 11:04am
it worked then nothing, i am un-subscribed 2 others to see if it fixed. You make some the best MODs in the game.

----
for large and giant maps

If you could I want speed. I want a +2 Movement to every army , even the civ ones if that is possible. and a +2 or +4 movement to embark would be good as well.

and give 250% to 300% movement to ships, and civ ships, in another mod.
katyt 21 Mar, 2014 @ 12:54pm
How do I download?
Opa Wulfen 20 Mar, 2014 @ 5:56am
Kana, what if you want to start in the Ancient age where you don't get a worker? So no, not pointless. Only thing pointless is most of your asinine comments.
Ra-Ra-Rasputin 18 Mar, 2014 @ 1:09pm
Just start with an advanced start instead. Pointless mod.
j.jamo5 10 Mar, 2014 @ 5:02pm
Brilliant!!!!!
ebunts 10 Mar, 2014 @ 5:24am

Doesn't work, started new game after enabling this mod, settler and warrior
tranceport26 3 Mar, 2014 @ 10:10pm
Excellent. Would love a mod that gave you the option of a worker, warrior, or scout. Build, fight, or explore?
