Mothman is so far the only one they have purposely been doing their best to hide the lore of, but any bit of lore we have for the mothmen suggests that they aren't mutated moths. the fact that they "communicate" to their own cult and even fight alongside their cult alone works with that + not to mention the fallout series has had plenty of paranormal things in it, to even eldritch horror being canon,ghosts or Psychics.
Also no you baloonhead, the game is unironically getting better. We play it, you don't.
