Be aware though that wychwethyl will keep the building and animal units he recuited before the update.The update just prevents him from further upgrading the building or rebuilding it if its destroyed

But I would just turn the submod off after you confederate, so whoever recruits Durthu can start recruiting animals
Alas, this submod break my game at some point, no matter the order
The good new is that desactivating this submod let you continue, even mid-campain
Just tried it myself. No problem on my end. Not sure what's causing that to happen for you
