Just spam Giant drills, you might not get as much out of them, but they will keep you covered quite quickly untill you find the next iron node.

I have 4 people basically just chained to normal drills, no mining passions and one girl's at 20 mining anyways, and it's still slow as all hell.
Rogue The Avali 11 Aug, 2021 @ 7:17pm
Well I wanted to efficiently extract steel cause we have fuck all of it. Always. Don't know why, but there's just never enough. Year 4 and we're constantly having to scrap all the ancient complexes for every bit of steel they have in the floors and walls.
7ux0n0 11 Aug, 2021 @ 6:59pm
Why are you using Smart Autodrill for steel?
Smart Autodrill is for efficient extraction of resources.
If you want speed, take the Giant Autodrill.
Rogue The Avali 11 Aug, 2021 @ 6:51pm
12 hours for 45 steel. Wow that's sad. Lvl 10 miner? Did said miner happen to have smokeleaf addiction and both of his arms replaced with wooden stumps? Not to mention the 1 tile range, fkn hell. I didn't want to use omni core drill, cause it's op af, but there's just no viable alternatives.

Just remember to change the mod name now, Autodrill 1.2 is now Autodrill 1.3!

Hi everyone, 1.3 update complete :)
Pagan Prince  [author] 21 Jul, 2021 @ 1:50am
Hi Catta X, working on that now
Catta X 18 Jul, 2021 @ 2:42am
Does anyone know if this mod is going to be updated to rimworld version 1.3?
7ux0n0 25 May, 2021 @ 11:06am
yes it is since it only adds buildings - however pretty much can't be removed once it's in a save
Marty McFly 25 May, 2021 @ 10:00am
Hey is the mod capable of being added to existing saves?
7ux0n0 22 May, 2021 @ 10:41am
Will the drills eventually be updated with the rest of the drill code so it shows ore details when hovering over deposits?
pgames-food 16 May, 2021 @ 9:47pm
(or if rimworld wasn't programmed in xml, withforth) :)
Pagan Prince  [author] 16 May, 2021 @ 8:37pm
Hi qux, I shall add the French translation forthwith
worldwideweb 8 May, 2021 @ 11:23am

i managed to unlock and am building one now so will put to the test too :)
pgames-food 15 Apr, 2021 @ 7:35pm
maybe its to simulate leaving the drill in an extracted fully mined-out area, can still yield a little bit of trace elements of ore? :)
vorshlumpf 15 Apr, 2021 @ 9:58am
As the deposit got low (<100, I think), the output and consumption got proportionally lower. Just before noticing this and moving the smart autodrill, the deposit was at 2 steel and the resulting output was 2 steel with 0 consumption (leaving 2 steel in the deposit still).
pgames-food 14 Apr, 2021 @ 1:16am
hi thats interesting...

the smart autodrill says 30% deposit consumption, and 100% resource output.
was what you saw just happening 1 time? or was that like the last 4 resources, and it used 50% and gave 50%? (sorry if i misunderstood) :)
vorshlumpf 13 Apr, 2021 @ 10:07pm
Thanks for providing this mod!

I've been using Smart AutoDrill's only, and I've noticed something. When the resource below them gets low, the amount that the drill extracts gets reduced proportionally and does not deplete the source. At least, not so far. The last drill cycle produced 2 steel and left 2 steel (which is what it had before that cycle).

Also, when you have a regular deep drill selected, mousing over an underground resource will show you how much is there (much like when a ground-penetrating scanner is selected). This doesn't happen with the small autodrill.
pgames-food 8 Mar, 2021 @ 1:47am
yeah ive been researching these to be able to clear out all the minerals and ores on a small map i visited, having set up power and a scanner :) now the only problem is steel and materials to craft them but it will happen :)
RavenousEye 7 Mar, 2021 @ 6:25am
looks balanced, the faster the more resources short term but less resources long term
