The SFO's main mod update Is still in progress though so you might want to wait a little more before jumping back into SFO.
It sure sucks and I do agree that spear warriors that use their weapons like Axes are kinda immersion breaking, but at the moment (and probably for the time being) I can't do anything about It.
But who knows? Maybe one of these days a talented modder who has experience with custom animations could drop a spear animation for Dwarfs!
I mean: we are getting Warhammer 3 with freaking Cathay in It, so I think that from now on pretty much everything Is possible!
Is this possible? I'm not sure but probably yes.
So technically from this point we could proceed into two ways:
-Make a custom animation from scratch and then attach It to a Dwarf Skeleton
-Take an existing Dwarf warrior animation and then change It with some key parts of Empire/High Elves spear attack animations while hoping for the best possible outcome and to not get a 3D model abomination.
Sadly, I do not have the required skills to do any of this.
In fact I do not even know where to start.
The lack of guides about the argument do not help either.
You get highly distorted models in 3D battles, what are those you ask?
I think that Tarriff can explain this better than me= take a good look at those Norscan War Mammoths models.

ehh...good ol' Tarriff
Anyhow, I do think there are only two solutions around this: custom skeletons and custom animations.
Long answer: Even if you download the Shield Wall version nothing will change because the animation attack Is still bound to the stock Dwarf 1 hand axe attack animation.
In my understanding (which may not 100% accurate so take It with a pinch of salt) every Warhammer total war model Is bound to a specific skeleton that by default can only run a certain type of animations which are also bound to that specific type of skeleton.
Every race has Its own skeleton and while cross animation can work, It only does when those races share a particular skeleton example: Human factions like Empire-Bretonnia-Norsca-Chaos-Vampire Counts do share some skeleton so cross animations are often possible.
Now you can say to the game to give Empire/High Elves spear animations to the Dwarf Group but that's not change the fact that on paper you are still trying to attach a specific animation to a skeleton that does not support said animation.
