does this character have a district?
Jester 26 Nov, 2023 @ 6:44pm
Insanely fun and well made character. Would highly recommend, feels like he was always part of the game's design.

My god i love this one, now i can create antiheretic team
Caedwyn  [author] 4 Jul, 2023 @ 12:42pm
No, I think he's finished. I'm content with Templar.
ajjll 4 Jul, 2023 @ 4:39am
@Caedwyn would you be interested in joining me with making an "oath breaker" Templar add on, where he gets a second form while afflicted?
ajjll 1 Jul, 2023 @ 5:32pm
yes, i agree with what you are saying, but at least for my campaign he doesn't fit quite as well (since my campaign is heavily modded) so I made some balance changes to make it work, one of them was making the hp reaction every 1%. however it just doesn't work under 70% hp for some reason. i've reused your code just changed the increment to 0.01 and it doesn't work.
and giving his a 50% crit debuff after a crit for 2 rounds to avoid subsequent crits

I do think that a possible change would be to slightly nerf his dmg and acc, slightly higher the crit chance and give him the unholy slayer buff on reckoning, to give him more of a unique feel.
Caedwyn  [author] 19 Jun, 2023 @ 4:48am
The hp reaction is a reward for guarding team-mates well. He gets a Reckoning buff every time there's a 5% health threshold crossed (Example: 100% -> 95% -> 90% -> etc). It's fairly easy to stack if you're guarding which is the design intention. It works as intended. Get hit, then strike back with Reckoning. The more you get hit, the harder Reckoning smacks. I tested it in-game. It works fine for me, though I encourage you to make a video and plug it into the bug forum. I can try to replicate the error if I have something to follow. Just be sure to reset the mod, that way we can guarantee it's the most recent update.

I don't recommend focusing on his crit passive. He is not a crit character. In fact, very few characters, modded or vanilla, can guarantee their crit passive. Crit passives aren't generally important for characters in DD. They're usually passive benefits. Some modded characters might bend that, but it's the rule of thumb.
Caedwyn  [author] 19 Jun, 2023 @ 4:48am
Thanks for the feedback.

Unless you have tons of crit, critical strikes are generally unreliable. That's true for anyone without a design around crit chance. His crit bonus is really just for team support & flavor. He's a support front-liner, fundamentally. That won't change in a vanilla or modded run, and an AoE heal from constant crits would be overpowered. That would be like a free Inspiring Cry on every team mate without a turn cost. His crit will stay on the lower side.
ajjll 18 Jun, 2023 @ 1:49pm
personally I think the Templar should be centered around his Crit passive since he is a bit too strong for my game whilst being kinda generic, so I modified a few things including the hp reaction but i just couldn't get it to work. the hp reaction work until 70% hp, idk why it happens i use the same line (buff and everything) but it just won't work under 70% hp.
overall i think this is a very interesting concept but for me it falls a bit short because the Templar lacks "character", his crit passive is unreliable, pretty weak with a small heal only for his team and a buggy hp reaction (idk if this one is just a me thing).
I don't think dd has the tools necessary to make him work as intended as there is no "on take damage" function. hp reaction is an interesting work around for sure but i think it only works (well) with lower max hp.

I think Templar is a great fit for a vanilla-ish playthrou (altho a bit too strong) but he lacks identity in a heavily modded run.

Is just my impression or the skin received a neat update? The colors are less bright in fit with the original ar, looks nice!
Vantez 12 Dec, 2022 @ 9:51am
The head animation while walking feels a little bit stiffed. But overall great mod!! I also hope you will consider making his armor/plates texture/color similar to Crusader - Dark Soul Skins
NordicHorde 17 Nov, 2022 @ 11:57am
OP as hell when paired with the Keeper. They can both buff his damage reflection.
rTargaryen 6 Nov, 2022 @ 7:53am
Really cool character, also love his trinkets and his visual design is awesome! Nice class bro.
Bubblegum_Bitch 26 Sep, 2022 @ 2:25pm
Interesting class, Tank extrodinaire that can do some dmg and has oodles of utility. The templar is very strong, good at whatever he so chooses, I don't know if tha tmakes him OP, it does make him strong though. The class feels fun though, the effects all tickle me and the art is fantastic. He looks cool, has cool abilities, is fun to use, just for that he is worth using, if you care about strength of characters though he is on the strong side, I may change my mind but for now, A tier. 5/5 *A Tier*
infinity_flair 19 Sep, 2022 @ 12:05pm
I love this guy. Personally I'd like it if his ranged attack was enabled in slot 3, but regardless he is a favorite. I like to pair him with The Keeper as she can boost damage reflection on top of what he already comes with. Pretty funny to see enemies kill themselves.
Khance Time 22 Aug, 2022 @ 8:59pm
An amazing Tank/healer 10/10 will always choose over the Seraph.
Fiki Ripfiend 1 Aug, 2022 @ 9:40am
Does Darkest Dungeon need more frontline beaters ? Appearently it does. Fortunatelly, this is one of the stronger, more versatile ones, competing with flagelant for the position. Job well done.

Thank you! I'm happy to hear that.
Reapsy 28 Jun, 2022 @ 3:32am
I picked this mod recently and I absolutely LOVE IT. Templar's visual design is just gorgeous, animations are really fitting and cool-looking, but also subdued so they don't get on your nerves.
Mechanically-wise he's pretty damn amazing, finally there's a good offensive support that isn't MaA. God knows DD, especially when you use other modded classes, is in severe need of heroes that can actually enable more fragile damage dealers. Even in Vanilla it gets pretty boring when you have to bring MaA every time you want to go ham with Arbalest, for example.
Also he has several builds and playstyles (Deflection tank, healer, debuffer) instead of being pidgeonholed into one specific role like some modded heroes tend to be, but he also doesn't overshadow heroes who specialize in those things, which is great.
All in all, that mod is going into my "Always enabled" pack. :divine:
Caedwyn  [author] 8 Jun, 2022 @ 1:50pm
That would be nice! And thank you for the compliment.
Planty 8 Jun, 2022 @ 10:04am
There is a missing information in french on "The holy grail"
"Compétence de Soin +25%".
Missing the line who reduce the cooldown of "Lay on Hands by 1 turn".
I can give you the traduction to add : Toucher Apaisant n'a plus de temps de récupération"

BTW GREAT MOD :D

Could you post a video in the bug discussion? I'll take a look when I can.
Meanie 1 Jun, 2022 @ 7:56am
The SFX of certain animations are positioned in wrong places. Could this somehow be due to a compatibility issue with another mod?
Caedwyn  [author] 5 Apr, 2022 @ 10:40am
Deoradhan.

Pronounced "Doran."
Cerebralcloud92 5 Apr, 2022 @ 10:29am
Is there any sort of "canon name" for the Templar? I've looked around a bit, couldn't find it on my own.

It's still working on my end. It works in a heavily modded save, and a 2-mod save. Try moving it to the bottom of the load order.
Atlas 20 Feb, 2022 @ 9:43am
I also have the bug with no cooldown on the heal. I don't see why the load order would matter; plenty of other mods with cooldowns on Class abilities seem to work fine.
Gordon Ramsey 5 Jan, 2022 @ 2:40pm
I was experiencing the same bug on the heal with no cooldown until i moved the mod to the very bottom of the load order. Now is working fine, great class mod btw!
Caedwyn  [author] 27 Dec, 2021 @ 3:08pm
I can confirm the mod works fine on my end, both on heavily modded and unmodded test saves. I tested it with Bogatyr and both perform fine. I'm not sure what the issue on your end would be.

Can you, and hopefully anyone reading this who has the same issue, post mod load orders in the "Bugs!" forum post? Screenshot(s) would be fine.
[HN] 27 Dec, 2021 @ 11:58am
Hmm, the only other mod I can think of that has a class with CD on heal would be the Bogatyr, but iirc this one still has his CD working fine, and I've been using him since even before starting to use the Templar so I doubt the problem comes from him.
Caedwyn  [author] 27 Dec, 2021 @ 9:37am
It sounds like a mod incompatibility, but I don't know what. I've tested this multiple times on Templar, and he works as intended: 2 round cooldown on the heal.

If you know what mod causes the incompatibility, I might be able to code around it. It would probably be a mod that also uses cooldowns on heals.
Def not toxic player 27 Dec, 2021 @ 9:11am
Same, no cooldown. But... Templar now so good.
Caedwyn  [author] 26 Dec, 2021 @ 9:30pm
I just tested the mod. The 2 turn CD works. You might have an incompatibility, though I'm not sure what it would be.
[HN] 26 Dec, 2021 @ 8:35pm
Hi there!
I've noticed that the heal of my templar doesn't have the expected 2turn CD, I can just use it every times, am I the only one with that "problem" (possibly due to a random mod incompatibility) or do others have noticed the same problem?
Caedwyn  [author] 13 Nov, 2021 @ 3:02pm
That explains it. The functionality present in the trinket Divine Book is included in CoM, so it makes sense the string data would be there too.

I can check into adding it in the next day or two. I'm focused on a data science certification at the moment.

I turned the trinket into a kickstarter and summoned it. It's working fine. Do you have the DLC?
Barrelmaker 13 Nov, 2021 @ 1:43pm
Actually, upon further review, I'm going to hold off on that assert failed unless I get screenshot evidence because now I suspect a different mod was likely responsible. That aside, Templar's Divine Book also seems to exhibit <cyan_text>. (I screenshot it this time so the exact text displayed there is: [<trinket_friendly_skill_additional_effects>] ) I'm using English as language/localisation, I've never changed it. I also recently reinstalled so I'm not inclined to believe that it's a local problem. It's been a long while since I modded, but from what I remember -you ran your localisation.bat?
Caedwyn  [author] 13 Nov, 2021 @ 4:57am
I'll take a look at Retribution.

What language/localization are you using?

I've run into 0 assert failed screens with this mod when it's run alone. If can provide more specific feedback, I'd appreciate it. Please post in "Bugs!"
Barrelmaker 12 Nov, 2021 @ 9:34pm
I'm really enjoying this Templar so far. I perceive it was made by someone who took its subject matter seriously or at least put heart into it, and so mounts a welcome and respectably righteous resistance against the forces of evil. There might be a couple of bugs though; the Retribution tooltip has in my game what looks like a loose string (in <cyan_text>). I've also encountered one (1) assert failed blackscreen which (probably) came from here, possibly a trinket. Should've screenshot it, but oh well. It didn't cause a crash or anything and everything seems to be working very well otherwise.
