This was one of my first attempts at scripting and the mission is really sub-par. Be advised.

"How many soldiers died during Operation Red Wings?
19 soldiers were killed during Operation Red Wings and one was wounded (Marcus Luttrell). The casualties included the three Navy SEALs caught in the ambush with Marcus Luttrell and 16 other U.S. soldiers (8 Navy SEALs and 8 U.S. Army Special Operations aviators) who lost their lives when their MH-47 Chinook helicopter was shot down on its way to rescue the ambushed soldiers."
This is reported in the site "History vs Hollywood" about the movie "Lone Survivor", if it can help you to clear the matter. (http://www.historyvshollywood.com/reelfaces/lone-survivor.php)

typo on chinook btw
JustNukeIt 12 Jan, 2015 @ 4:42am
@Maverick my relative James "Trey" Ponder was the door gunner on the Chinnok that was shot down and guess what he was a Ranger just like the rest of them it was just a different tasking. For example my Dad trained as an Ordinance and Logistics officer(the exact name escapes me) but while he was deployed his title was different or on his last tasking as the Prof. of Military Science at the University of Cincinati his title was also very different.

ok, now it's clear. so let's wait the next part
Atlas  [author] 10 Jul, 2014 @ 1:33pm
Oh sorry! I misunderstood what you meant. It is because I am making the whole Lone Survivor into 3 parts. This is part 2 and I am working on part 3 which will be what happens after you jump off the cliff.
5p3cTr3 10 Jul, 2014 @ 1:16pm
thank you, but I've already done it. then I had to kill many soldiers to keep me alive, but after this I don't know what to do. have I already accomplished the mission now?
Atlas  [author] 10 Jul, 2014 @ 1:12pm
Sorry br1jez, here's your answer. After you engage with the hostiles on top of the hill, behind you there should be a cliff around 150m away. There should be a marker indicating it's position. You have to run and jump from it. You probably know that you can't get killed at the end. It is meant for you to be able to accomplish the task. I will be working on this part when ill have a little bit of spare time.

i'm still waiting for a hint to go on with the mission. can you?
Atlas  [author] 9 Jul, 2014 @ 12:53pm
@rwt1022 Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. I made the nighthawk explode to recreate the scene of the Chinook helicopter getting shut down by the talibans when trying to rescue the seals.
rwt1022 9 Jul, 2014 @ 8:24am
nice mission!
but...
why nighthawk-heli is blow up? and why so dark?

excuse me, maybe I missed something. I saw the film and I read the book, but after I've jumped and killed a dozen of soldiers chasing me, I don't know where to go and what to do. The book told about the arrive in a village where Gulab took care of Marcus, but here there is no indication or other to help me to decide where to go, no comms with anyone, only a village on the coast full of soldiers. Forgive me if I tell you again, but did I miss anything? It seems strange to me that a lot of people are saying nice words about it. Anyway a big OOAHH to evvery SEAL around the world and to those who tried to help Marcus and died

Good Mission !!!! BEST MISSION !!!

I wish I had the time to still create missions, it's always fun to see what the community will come up with next. =)
Atlas  [author] 13 Apr, 2014 @ 6:26pm
@Sigma - I appreciate you support and that is why I created that mission. After I watched the movie I felt like ArmA needed a proper movie/mission. Thanks for the support!

@XxRTEKxX - If you see a Coca-Cola label on a can of soda and it doesn't taste like Coca-Cola then you'd be disappointed right? The principle behind branding is that if you use a brand, you expect it to perform like the brand in question. I think that if the author named this mission something other than after the movie then there would be no argument. Players go into this mission expected it to be like the movie and when it's not they get discouraged to play further or give it a positive rating. However I don't think anyone is not grateful for the time and energy that R4mp4ge put into creating this for the community.
Atlas  [author] 13 Apr, 2014 @ 9:11am
Thanks Yolo and XxRTEKxX, I have some free time today so I will work on fixing part 2 and creating part 3. Stay put!

I don't give a flying fuck if the mission is exactly like the movie. As long as it's fun to play and I know the maker put effort into making it, then I am going to like it. Definitely not going to complain if it doesn't match perfectly to the movie.
Django The Rad 13 Apr, 2014 @ 4:10am
Yes, in the movie they do not attack the base themself, but in the mission they did when I played it! Sorry if this was unclear in my previous comment.
Atlas  [author] 12 Apr, 2014 @ 8:46pm
Thanks for the feedback yolo. I will add to the description that: "If you did not see the movie, I strongly recommend that you do so before playing the mission." Again, not everything is perfect as you mentionned below. "After letting the civilians go, the team engaged the enemy base themself instead of getting ambushed while retreating." That sir, is false. In the movie (which my mission is based off) they let the civilians go, then climb up the mountain to reach the extraction zone. The do NOT in any circumstances attack the base themselves. I am aware that the last objective needs quite a bit of tweaking, I will get to it as soon as I can. I appreciate the feedback.

Over 'n Out!
Django The Rad 12 Apr, 2014 @ 6:41pm
I didn't really enjoy this mission. If you have not seen the movie, you are lost, because NOTHING is explained through briefings or dialogue. If you have seen the movie, this mission is nothing like it. After letting the civilians go, the team engaged the enemy base themself instead of getting ambushed while retreating. I don't know if this was intentional or because of bad waypoint placing. When I reached the top of the hill, there were 2 enemy squads just standing next to the crashed helicopter not doing anything until the "JUMP" objective got triggered. Although I have seen the movie, half of the time I didn't know what to do because my teammates were engaging instead of retreating, although the waypoint said otherwise.
You could solve this by letting the team retreat a bit and then spawn enemys 100-200 metres behind them or something.
Sig (Von Luck WT) 12 Apr, 2014 @ 2:58pm
Excellent, but know that I am looking forward to killing some goat hurders and evading capture.
Atlas  [author] 12 Apr, 2014 @ 2:50pm
@TheRNetwork, Roger that, I know how to fix this, I will update the mission as soon as I can!

Thank god for Murph and his sacrifice. What a mission. What a team.
Atlas  [author] 11 Apr, 2014 @ 2:01pm
Thanks for the feedback Sigma, Part one as you noticed was not supposed to be of any action. It was just replicating the takeoff from the airbase to the AO, which you are going to see in part 2. On my side, I wanted tp tell you that replicating a movie scene without mods and only Vanilla ArmA 3 is pretty complicated. Keep me up-to-date with your thoughts on part 2! Over n' Out!
Sig (Von Luck WT) 10 Apr, 2014 @ 8:20pm
We enjoyed Part one last night, however it was very easy and nothing like the movie. I'll queue this one up for tonight and let you know how it goes.
Limus 9 Apr, 2014 @ 8:41am
they killed his cousin so he went into hiding into caves and things like that
Atlas  [author] 8 Apr, 2014 @ 3:43pm
Yes, Gulab took a lot on his back. Protecting Marcus was really dangerous for himself and the people in his village. To this day, Talibans are still regularly attack them for the Pashtunwali they did that day.
Limus 8 Apr, 2014 @ 8:03am
RIP those 19 soldiers that were killed and respect to gulab for takin luttrell into care
Atlas  [author] 6 Apr, 2014 @ 8:10pm
I am glad you liked it. I am currently working on part 3. For improvement purpuses, was it easy to you had to jump down the cliff?
