Woah, that was awesome! Love the end set-up and the bootstrap to achieve it , great!

I came back to Portal 2 and just found this genius map designer.
Took me 30 min. Brilliant and beautiful puzzle.
Strongly recommend to solve it by yourself. (always, if it's from this designer. :3)

Solving Step Hints
1 : a closed cycle of laser
2 : roll it. :3

Well, I didn't solve it the intended way (which is much more elegant.) But I'm still happy I reached the exit and I learned something.

Thoughts with blindrun [telegra.ph]

TLDR: Incredibly creative chamber with excellent usage of the rolling properties of the ball . Took me a good 2 or 3 hours depending on whether you counted an hour-long break I accidentally recorded (but deleted). I've also cut out some unnecessary parts and sped up others. Can't believe I got it done just right before I went to bed.

When I came back from my 4-year absence from the game, I worried that the Portal 2 mapmaking community had run out of ideas and exhausted every possible intuitive, non-glitchy, interesting combination of puzzle elements. Turns out I was dead wrong, and as long as bright minds like the OG Mevious stick around, we shouldn't have anything to worry about.

I'm not sure what the grate on the panel above the angled is for, or the carved out space to the right of the second laser, and I found the geometry a little awkward - but those are nitpicks. This is an indisputable banger.

Difficulty: 9.25/10
Enjoyed: 8/10

Hadn't I watched the bootstrapping video from Mikeastro before playing, I would've spent much much more time solving the puzzle =P
On a quick note: there seems to be a bug concerning inconsistent ball rolling. The first time I tried, the ball somehow didn't roll straight ahead, but instead slightly to the left (my left as I was waiting on the moving platform), fell into the stairway and then fizzled itself (for some unknown reason). I had to do the entire thing again =(

Effing brilliant!

After completing the test and reading the comments, i have a feeling that there's more than one solution. really clever but its very easy to mess up even if you know the answer.
HermanitoII 3 Jan, 2023 @ 2:40pm
I solved it cheating before reading comments :S. I did stockpile both boxes and ball in the angled wall near the end to jump to the grated pannel and make the final gate. The I came here and a comment that talked about the ball rolling made my light flash.
wildgoosespeeder 24 Nov, 2022 @ 1:30pm
I had a feeling you wanted me to sustain the laser while a cube is on the piston platform using that cube to redirect the laser in the down position and use the ball to interrupt the sustain at just the right moment and position, using the funnel to hold the ball over the incline that lappears to be out of place to ride the funnel to the exit. You still got it after 10 years.
hd42 13 Aug, 2022 @ 11:07am
omg - so frigging hard. The only reasons I solved are a) you never put features in your tests that aren't necessary. If that weren't the case, this would be unsolvable for me, and b) I accidentally dropped the ball and when it was randomly rolling around it cut through last beams and trigger an idea. Somehow you manage to take a simple puzzle game and introduce dynamics which takes things to a whole new level of difficulty.

This fuckin' puzzle. You all the time think, that either the rolling surface, or angled lazer activated by the ball is the way to fuck with you, because one of them is not needed. But every hanging rifle must shoot at certain point, and this principle is satisfied here (takes time to figure out that they must be combined, in a sequence of course). That's why this map is great
CoffeeCoder 7 Apr, 2022 @ 8:07am
Really challenging. I always had in the back of my head: what the hell is that ramp thing for?
Spider_Dawg 28 Dec, 2021 @ 12:39pm
Excellent puzzle, solved very similarly to nock except I went for the redirection cube before the sphere. Used it to trap the sphere in a corner while I looked around. Thumbs up and favorite.
haplessdork 10 Dec, 2021 @ 2:50pm
Absolute genius. Gold star for Mevious! One of my absolute favorite designers. Super creative!

Another great puzzle. Loved the final Rube Goldberg-esque sequence!!! Helped to mold my mind back into shape after Aquila melted it!
SpielSatzFail 30 Oct, 2021 @ 12:10pm
How could I not see this. HOW.COULD.I.NOT.SEE.THIS XD
I solved every single step but it took me forever to understand the use of the grated panel & angled platform just because it didn't occur to me to reuse the ball . In hindsight it's so obvious. Imagine me thinking "if only a cube could roll" . Hilariously embarassing ^^
Thumbs up, great map with a nice (in my case quite late) aha-moment.

I didn't have one Aha!-moment, but rather my whole playthrough of the puzzle was a string of "Oh, so that's why that is there...Oh, and that's why this is here..." I love how the layout itself is the thing that explains what has to be done. Great job as always!
racknae 13 Jul, 2021 @ 3:08pm
Don't understand what the angled laser is for.

Great map Mevious. Loved the use of the ESC holding area to bring everything together at the end.

Nice puzzle! Making the player find a way to turn small break into an indefinite one is a good setup. Agree with a few others that it would have been neat if there was no second, diagonal laser but I guess I shouldn't talk since I can't think of a way to keep the setup comfortable otherwise.
scp017 3 May, 2021 @ 1:01pm
the final step is like - They see me rollin' :)
unique and mind-boggling experience, thank you
jandlml 28 Apr, 2021 @ 9:38pm
excellent!! took me a long time to get that final sequence figured out. im so glad i saw your name as a help for underground and decided to check if you had more maps that i havent played.

As usual, last movement eluded me and I can hardly finish it, tough one.
Alfe5 5 Apr, 2021 @ 5:34pm
Love that ending move. Even in 2021, your angle at looking at things and bringing something fresh is astounding! :p2cube:
Oblivious Owl 21 Mar, 2021 @ 5:54pm
Cool puzzle! A bit of a strange layout, but the ending move was really good.
Alian 21 Mar, 2021 @ 8:56am
Nice one !!!
Thank you for doing more tests ! You're one of , if not he best !
Localized 15 Mar, 2021 @ 11:21pm
Brilliant! The positioning of the cubes felt self explanatory given the layout, but I couldn't find where to go from there until I figured out the use for the grated panel.

Glad to see you back! :D
Nobody No-One 14 Mar, 2021 @ 3:08pm
Very nice map - I do think the layout could probably have been simplified a fair bit, but the solution was very nice and had a cool "aha" moment. Thumbs up.
mabelpines 14 Mar, 2021 @ 5:38am
Always amazing creativity! Despite the open hint, I thought it was useless for a long time. Thanks for coming back.

It's awesome to see you back with a new map, Mevious! See my blind run here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzaWVS8-XEs

So glad to see you're back! Unfortunately, solving this puzzle didn't go as smooth as I had hoped. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to any upcoming puzzle from you!

That took me a looong time to figure out.

A very good solution with the ball thumbs up 👍.
SunnyOst 12 Mar, 2021 @ 8:45am
Solved as intended, very cool solution! :cleancake: I think falling out of the funnel is absolutely random, and depends purely on the mood of Gods

Cool solution i like it!

Отличный тест! :okey:
PixelPerfect 10 Mar, 2021 @ 1:37pm
When I started the map, I was confused by what the use of the grated panel was, but when it dawned on me, my jaw dropped to the floor. Well worth the wait!

man after long time u have released this one, and bro. what a crazy setup . i really enjoyed Fav :p2cube:
Hazellius 9 Mar, 2021 @ 11:01pm
Wonderful work as always! Had lots of fun solving this one. Your work continues to delight me, even 9 years after the map maker has come out :p2wheatley:
(ᵔᴗᵔ) 9 Mar, 2021 @ 10:46am
Still in great form after 5 years I see.
Fatso 9 Mar, 2021 @ 10:01am
I was able to exit without using the second cube or the second laser!!!
ezKill42 9 Mar, 2021 @ 3:36am
Another well done! And I laugh..I used bulldog's basic method but when I read your intent it dawned on me that would have been easier to accomplish. it's ez to forget that you can even do that with the always-on laser since u always nd an 'off' switch :steamhappy:
dvanroijen 9 Mar, 2021 @ 12:30am
Hadn't played Portal 2 in a while. Nice to see a new Mevious map right away! Difficult, but brilliant as always. Took me a good night sleep to see the solution. Thanks!
Flup 8 Mar, 2021 @ 11:47am
When I saw you released a new map, I launched Portal 2 after taking a long break from the game (and community test chambers) just so I could play it. This puzzle reminded me all the good times I had with the game and I love that even after 10 years there is still something new that can surprise me and make me smile. I enjoyed this map a lot (and I believe I solved it the intended way). Thanks for creating this puzzle!
