It looks sexier without the sail but loses a bit of personality. Maybe if the sail was just smaller so it didn't look impractical.

I was kind of on the fence about the sail as well but it never sat quite right with me. Thank you for this awesome mod. Your Cyclops mod is also on point. Awesome looking ship

Honshu is quite a nice ship, but the sail spoils it, it's really out of the bowl. For a support ship, to supply battleships, I would expect the simplest possible shapes so as not to attract attention and the smallest possible target.
Sails and other strange parades are good for cruise ships to attract as much attention and support the desire to spend ...

I would kill for someone to make Honshu symmetrical. I don't enjoy how offset crew section is, does not match with my own imaginative Terran aesthetic ^^

I hope you up it speed and turning rate if not no point getting it. I'm a Pirate I use the monitor for that but I'm a Terran now so I like to use a Terran ship up it speed and turning rate thank you.

@Lupercal No bother and nice job! The parts that are inverted like you say, sometimes the normals get turned around, you need to go to edit mode, select all the flipped polygons and then mesh > normals > flip. And looks like your gonna have to edit the xml after all to move those turret that were placed on the disk. Good luck with the ship!

@Axeface Last message from me (at least in this thread), and apologies for being such a massive bother. Thank you so much for all your replies as well as your mod for the Honshu itself, I had to look how everything is organised in the .cat you made for it to figure out what to do and thanks to you I actually managed to do what I wanted to in the first place (at least partially).

I need to do it again though, some elements that I duplicated (but not all, must be my error in blender at some point) have their surface textures transparent when looking from the outside so to speak. I should have wrote down all the steps I took to redo the thing easily, but if it worked once it should work again.

@Lupercal You should go into the texture folders and extract the dds files from the .gz archives (will have to give them .dds extension). If you do this you will be able to see the maps in blender. The material setup in blender is not important afaik. You simply need an image map assigned like I do in that vid (you are missing one in that material which is probably why you were having issues). Which map is in the name of the components (and that name is how the game knows which material to use), for example genericXgeneric_p1_hulltexture_01 will use the assets/textures/generic/generic_p1_hulltexture_01_diff.dds (and the generic_p1_hulltexture material). Also, making a fresh XML is really problematic, best to use the exported xml to copy over your changes to the vanilla one than make a fresh one. If your edit isnt changing the position of any turrets/shields etc all you need is the model files. Anyways here probably isnt a good place to discuss :D Try the discord or forums?

I see why you might dislike 2.7, I can't even figure out yet how to delete the things I don't want in edit mode but in 2.8 I figured it out in a couple of minutes. This is what my shaders tab looks like:

I'm not sure what those 3 red ones are for, ambient, specular and reflective. Also I don't know which texture should I get for the Tokyo (probably its in extensions\ego_dlc_terran\assets\textures\terran) and I have a feeling like it uses different ones for different parts..
Without addressing the above I managed somehow to be able to export it to .dae without errors and even convert it to .xml but obviously I fucked up somewhere. The newly created .xml is tiny (5kb compared to vanilla 28kb) so that didn't work. I'll keep trying though.

i like the sail,...i imagine its like a front line hospital ship, ....

im a pilot with recently damaged ship from battle,

im looking for the fleet resupply ship so i can quickly get repaired

i see it easily by the sail

@Luperal Nice, glad to see another modder on x4. I only use 2.8 now and I think ive found ways to get around the texcord issue, I cant use 2.7 I hate it. If you get the texcord error go into the shading tab on blender, looking through your materials you should find one that doesnt have a texture assigned. At the start of this video I add one to a material that doesnt have one assigned https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_KucItRMMc . You also need to make sure your model doesnt have any mesh errors, select all parts, edit mode, select all, mesh > clean up > delete loose.

The final version is probably going to look like ass but at least my autism in regards to center of mass and thrust will be satisfied.

i have notepad++ for editing xml's (do it all the time for other games like starpoint gemini 2 and SPG warlords) but looking at x4's file type it looks like their compressed and packed.

I take it i'll have to bite the bullet and track down a program to unpack them correct?

@Veronica Anatolia Thats not something im interested in doing but it should be as simple as adding a "con_shipstorage_m_01" connection to the asgard macro file (extensions\ego_dlc_terran\assets\units\size_xl\macros\ship_atf_xl_battleship_01_a_macro.xml). If you compare the macro for a ship that has m storage like the odysseus you will see the difference.

I have a small request, do you think you could possibly give the Asgard battleship 10 M craft capacity? Or maybe elaborate how to find and edit its xml to do so?

I noticed it carriers 40 fighters and has 3 pads, but has 1 medium pad but no storage for medium craft, its internal cargo is only 9,000m3 even though it is a XL craft making me think its done lore wise like the split raptor where she only has 19,000m3 because her cargo bay was sacrificed for instead more hanger space.

I think either just the 10 medium craft hanger capacity would make sense and would bring her upto total dock storage to 50 (like the majority of other large and XL ships in the game) although having a M dock Capacity of just 5 wouldn't be bad either.

It doesn't matter what it is (solar panels? In a giant ship powered by an antimatter rector?) The board - the sail, right next to the landing docks is a rather unfortunate idea.

@GoingBatty Them calling it a solar sail is a bit of a misnomer, it's solar panels that just happen to be in a sail shape, its not supposed to be a solar sail as most understand it.
