This is because from what I know from that modder, the hair is "dyed" by replacing Hat Kid's and Bow Kid's original hair textures. Because only through that method, that gradient can be achieved.
My open hair mod however uses the method that all dyeable flairs use, so that whatever dye is equippied, the flair has the same color the hair from that dye gets.

I cannot guarantee that my flair works 100% with other mods from other modders. That's just how it be sometimes.

It doesn't work with *every* dye. Using it with the dyed version of the Rayman outfit doesn't turn that part of the hair orange.

to perfectly explain how this works, we would need to know that hats are basically an extension that is added by a particular "point" on the playermodel, this "point" is where you spaw and attach extras onto it. if you make an invisible addon prop to this "point" it would make it so hat kid isn't wearing a hat.
