Hole 9 is utterly evil though, it's more frustrating than difficult ;o;
you can't get the ball out of the homey
I didn't realize that Hole 9 had an intentional misdirection so after finishing the hole and heading left I saw easier hole and realized why it the hole was hard, lol.
1."if you have secret holes that are not meant to be the main hole HIDE THE DAMN HOLE"
the only maps to have 2 separate holes (not counting the secret in 18) are map 9 and 17, with map 9 being an intentional misdirection, and 17 being a "choose your path" case. the dungeon map has a diferent pathway for the 2nd playthrough, but still uses the same hole. other maps may have some hidden pathways, but all end up at the same hole. so I'm not sure what you are refering to.
2. temple, red section (spoiler for those who haven't played hole 13)
try the bottom right, i've had more than 95% succes on that one and i've chucked massive amounts (100+) of golfballs in there at diferent angles. anny fails there should be seriously bad rng.
let me explain hole 18 to you. the normal path is simply going to the right, untill you reach the moonlord-remains head, and the hole is in his head (in the green goopy brain bit). as for the secret hole, which i get the feeling you haven't actually found... notice how hole 18 is a copy of hole 1, but in reverse, with added moonlord bits? notice how you start on a replica of the tree of hole 2? did you notice the path that allows you to get a hole in one into the replica hole 2 from the starting point of hole 18 (its also a secret path on the original hole 2)? if you get that hole in one, the secret in the congratulations area is unlocked. however, this does not count as completing hole 18. also, its a secret, it wasn't meant to be easy to find, thats the point of secrets.
(those 2 giant trees were just part of the normal map generation that i copied over when making hole 18, i hid nothing there myself.)
i get ya on this one, i decided to make 2 courses in 1 construction, and that was part of the issue here. my bad indeed. i can think of a few other maps that could also use some improvement on this end, might look into this in the comming weeks if i find the time.
5. game design.
I have never claimed to be a profesional level designer or annything of the sort. this was just a fun project for me to do, for the weeks after the golf update came out. some maps may have had a better concept and/or execution than others. all i can claim is that when my friends and me played the map, we had fun, and that i had fun while making it. i chucked it up on steam when the workshop went online, so others might have fun too. but i can't guarantee fun for everyone. The map was originaly not intended for the (back then non-existant) workshop, but it turned out good enough that i figured, might aswell.
please do, i'd like to see it. just... try to keep the salt levels to a minimum? please no 18 course sand map painted to resemble salt. 1 salt course is quite enough.
annyhow, despite the angry tone, thanks for the feedback, ill see if i can do some stuf if i find the time. no promises though.
(p.s. if you're going to dev-mode-style take apart the map, i would recomend spectre goggles and the grand design, so you can see wires and echo blocks. the secret actually contains those, along with all the other gear i used to make the map)
(p.p.s. sorry for answering your rant with an even longer rant, i got carried away. also i hope that, by posting these backwards, it wil result in a readable chunk)
I recommend watching/playing Rubber Ross World on Mario Maker made by Ross O Donovan aka Rubber Ninja, he made an entire world of bizarre and hard levels and took the time to study game/ level design and make the levels hard but playable, difficult but rewarding, so insanely hard the percentages of death to completions are insane. But they are good levels, this is not.
in final closing, i now want to make my own Terraria golf map to spite you. thank you for reading this. If i make a map, i will mention the pain and suffering you have brought to me, probably in some comedic way like a devil depiction with your username or something stupid.
Sincerly, AJnStuff
from Spain, but without the S
(final comment entry number 3)
hole 18 is impossible. there is no real ending, and again poor level design with the secret hole being far more obvious than the main hole. But neither of these 18 holes were able to allow us to the congratulations without cheating. And what even is the secret secret hole supposed to be??? all we found was two damn living trees with normal ass items in the chest??? like what even is that???
so, i got out a journey character pick and investigated what i thought was a clever and difficult hole for the secret secret hole, but was in fact blocked by invisible blocks. furious at having wasted 2+ hours i can now say the only good thing that came of this was quality time with my boyfriend. HOWEVER
i quickly came to realize this map in particular is impossible to complete. for one, certain hard mode levels were not designed well (aka if you have secret holes that are not meant to be the main hole HIDE THE DAMN HOLE) secondly, some hard mode levels like the temple one didn't work, the red section within had no winning hole to lead to the ending green one. poorly labeled directions led me and the boyf to be very confused about where to go when we re entered the dungeon. bad game design.
BUT OH WAIT! IT GETS WORSE!!!! (read in comments)
