It's a very good mod, really hope someone eventually tries to do bugfixes for this mod, even if the original dev doesn't want to anymore.
Would be great if you could just roll back to the older patch when it worked.
I am mid-campaign with this mod (well, all the individual pieces) playing Choshu Legendary. Having a very good time. Will comment on changes I noticed, though its been a number of years since I last played FOTS.
AI:
AI still switches allegiance just to kill you as before - annoying but I guess it's required otherwise I would just turtle and tech unopposed.
Building orders are better. I'm facing much more variety and more interesting battles as a result. As I hit realm divide the AI kitted up with a bunch of parrott guns, and I fought some actual artillery duels for the first time. AI recruits some quality melee troops like yari kachi and shogitai which incentivizes me bringing katanas. In one battle they camped a forest hill - I skirmished at the edges of the formation with guns for ages until they ran out of levies and rushed down with a horde of yari kachi and destroyed me. Very fun!
Am seeing more traditional dojos than before. AI bringing stuff like bow ki, samurai hero to battles. I can see enemy compositions evolve as they progress into techtree. I am also seeing more AI stacks with province buffs. Excited to fight new units as I move further into Japan.
AI spams less agent bullshit at me, at least so far. Good because I hate microing agents
Naval AI still poopy - I'm at ironclads but still fighting wood/copper navies. Many 1-2 ship stacks that are annoying to individually fight. Naval autoresolve still bad. Once in a while they bring 6 ships and it's a good time. Sometimes they send 1-ship navies with a full stack of ground troops on it which is silly.
Having more allied battles than I had before. Not sure why but it's a good thing. In my imperial game the shogunate major clans dominated the east but in central japan a few minor imperial clans killed the shogunate vanguard and are evenly matched with the enemy shogunate forces.
Slower battles and artillery nerf are appreciated.
Bombardment:
It's way less annoying now thanks to the lower radius. The increased need for more ships for successful bombardment means that the AI is less successful with their annoying 1-ship bombardments. I am still finding places to get friendly naval fire support though
Defence buildings:
Starting with matchlock towers are better than nothing but they still do next to nothing. As long as I don't leave general in range I can mostly ignore them.
About the mod being outdated: I've read the recent reviews and it seems the CA indeed pushed a stupid patch that added nothing and still managed to broke some mods. I hope this still works fine, but if it isn't I just can't be bothered with TW anymore. The CA/SEGA has killed my favourite series with their insatiable greed.
It seems the bayonet mod has been removed from the workshop, sad, I'll check if anyone else uploaded. It was nice to have but not essential.
I replied to that in the other version, but yeah, as far as I remember the reduced cheating basically only tones down AI getting free replenishment, XP or upgrades, so unit spam persists.
@AVE
I haven'T played SotS but I think it adds new castles&provinces, right? If so, yeah, the defence slot won't work with them (or any other startpos/new region/turn per year mod)
I noticed there were more smaller clans than usual rather than fewer more powerful clans at that stage in the game. More artillery and maybe bigger AI armies than usual but since there werent big clans it kinda got canceled out.
Yeah that was also reported on the other version of the mod, Jozai seems bugged for some reason but I tried almost all other factions and they were fine. Things are a bit busy for me right now, but will look into it when I get the chance.
It is a very cool mod though, and I absolutely love the dedicated defense slots!
