Since this mod has been reported working in 1.6 I added it to the No Version Warning-mod

Seems to work fine in 1.6. I can build the rack, dry meat, and eat the dried meat produced to fill the food need bar. Tested in a large modlist with 400 other mods.

LiterallyBeenVibing 15 Jun @ 6:52am

ZX Zero 16 Nov, 2024 @ 3:47pm
Tested and all works in 1.5!
The Bard of Hearts 24 Apr, 2024 @ 10:40am
Is this working in 1.5 / will there be an update? Thanks for the mod work regardless.
pgames-food 27 Jul, 2023 @ 4:22pm
(its the same with those dry powder soups, they can last for for 5 years + (but then the outer packaging can start flaking off a bit, exposing the content to air if moved around a lot) :)
Monkey Magic 27 Jul, 2023 @ 1:22pm
IRL, dried fruit can last upto 6 months at around 25/30c. Dried meat can last upto a year, and pemmican for several years, so I would say you have the in-game values spot on (if anything, pemmican should last longer in vanilla, but meh)

Incidentally, if you wanna add dried vegetables to the mod, those can last upto 10 or more years, but the process involved dehydrating, rather than a drying rank. Might be a nice idea for an tech advance though - Potato flakes, and dehydrated corn kernals anyone?

Textures could use a redo to fit the game though

So how about a separate MOD that allows you to, since doing so in this MOD will mess things up, I've tried. Here you are:

aw ok thanks
TheGoofyOne  [author] 22 Oct, 2022 @ 7:59am
No sorry. We tried that awhile back and it caused more issues than was worth.
Tablenack 22 Oct, 2022 @ 2:39am

TheGoofyOne  [author] 6 Oct, 2022 @ 6:46pm

Please do!! If you need any help let me know.
Kotobike 19 Sep, 2022 @ 7:02am
Can I use your mod as a template to create a mod ??? I will point you as an author
TheGoofyOne  [author] 23 Aug, 2022 @ 5:14am
I would be more than happy to do that. Do you have any? Know of anyone who wants to make some?

I agree and this and many mods of mine need more of a vanilla style, and I'm not a from scratch digital artist.
󠀿󠀿 22 Aug, 2022 @ 11:49am
This is swag; though, I have to ask if there is a possibility of new textures to better match the style of Vanilla?
TheGoofyOne  [author] 28 Jun, 2022 @ 12:03pm
Glad to hear :)
Angel 28 Jun, 2022 @ 7:39am
just what I was looking for, after several hours of playing last night with a tribal start, and having constant alerts about spoiled food :(
my colony was super inefficient and intermittently hungry
TheGoofyOne  [author] 25 Apr, 2022 @ 5:48pm
TYVM. Simplicity at it's finest. :)
Avarice 25 Apr, 2022 @ 12:05pm
Starting a map on naked brutality. Felt the lack of jerky for the second time. Hit the workshop, your mod is the winner! adds jerky and dried berries from a drying rack... Nothing else. I don't need fishing or neutramine or a Research X to get a smoker you put over a steam vent ect ect. TY!
TheGoofyOne  [author] 14 Apr, 2022 @ 7:30am
YW :)
Flesh Forge 14 Mar, 2022 @ 7:35pm
thanks for posting this, it's one of the baffling things about vanilla rimworld that there's so little effort paid to neolithic level tech gameplay.
TheGoofyOne  [author] 29 Jan, 2022 @ 6:54am
TY I'll look into it
wesleybruce 29 Jan, 2022 @ 3:54am
The tool tip for the drying racks are flipped so the berry one tells you how to make the dried meat and the meat one tells you how to make the dried berry's.
TheGoofyOne  [author] 25 Nov, 2021 @ 4:55pm
@ TreAsterischi - I created a separate old version for you. I put in for friends only and sent you a friend request. Check my catalog for it when you can. Let me know if that works for you.
TreAsterischi 24 Nov, 2021 @ 2:41am
Hi, can I revert the mod to the previous update?
My tribal colony really need to cook dried meats an berres into meals and kibble: I have a ton of dried food, but my rim can't cook anymore ^^"
TreAsterischi 12 Nov, 2021 @ 6:11am
Yes, I had noticed the loop... but I had worked around it by removing "dried meat" from the selectable ingredients in the drying rack.
Now I only can eat the dried meat: no more meals or kibble... :(
TheGoofyOne  [author] 12 Nov, 2021 @ 5:02am
Yes you could, but it created a loop where you would use dried meats to create dried meats, and I haven't been able to figure out how to change that, so it's back to the way it was.
TreAsterischi 12 Nov, 2021 @ 12:52am
Hi, I have a problem: I can't use dried meat and berries for cooked meals.
Before the update I was sure I could do it...
pgames-food 26 Oct, 2021 @ 9:40pm
(it happens in real life... theres a twice fried beef or something) :)
TheGoofyOne  [author] 26 Oct, 2021 @ 9:35pm
Updated. Someone asked to be able to make meals with dried meats, and it's possible, so I added it, but didn't see the loop it created, so TYVM.
TheGoofyOne  [author] 26 Oct, 2021 @ 9:12pm
LOLZ
pgames-food 26 Oct, 2021 @ 9:00pm
you could also sneak in a green army hat into this mod for more giggles too :lunar2019piginablanket:

then the mod would become dried meats
and berets :lunar2019grinningpig:
TheGoofyOne  [author] 26 Oct, 2021 @ 5:46pm
DOH! I'll look into this at some point, hilarious though :)
Anemun 26 Oct, 2021 @ 7:57am
Dry meat recipe use dry meat as ingredient, resulting pawn drying same piece of meat over and over again :)
Dragon of Desire 11 Sep, 2021 @ 5:25am
Thanks a bunch, Goofy!
TheGoofyOne  [author] 11 Sep, 2021 @ 2:39am
Sorry for the delay. Yeah that doesn't make any sense. You use enough berries to create a simple meal right?

Raised dried meat to .9 nutrition and raised dried berries to .6 nutrition.

Thanks you all :)
Dragon of Desire 5 Sep, 2021 @ 9:17am
So, looking at Pemmican for balance, Pemmican increases the nutrition of its ingredients by 60%. using that same calculation, I raised the dried meat and dried berries to 0.8 nutrition. I'm wondering if TheGoodyOne is still around, or if I should consider uploading my own version for people?
Dragon of Desire 3 Sep, 2021 @ 10:35am
I know, but was meaning for public distribution.
Verdeth 31 Aug, 2021 @ 4:10am
if you want to rebalance it, you could edit Items_Dried_Food.xml yourself its in Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\294100\2457299931\Defs\ThingDefs_Items
Dragon of Desire 28 Aug, 2021 @ 1:24am
It's been a while, but curious, I'm using this mod but I was wondering if we could have 0.5 berries make a single dried berry worth 0.5 nutrition? As it is right now, you have it so 0.5 berries makes 0.25 nutrition of dried berries; a massive loss, even worse than Pemmican!
TheGoofyOne  [author] 28 Jul, 2021 @ 11:11am
Yeah it's been requested to be used as one. I wondered the legitimacy of it, but then found out it's just re-hydrating. Can't be nearly as good but it works. I don't think i'll be ordering it any time soon ;)
Sasquatch Hadarock 25 Jul, 2021 @ 6:46pm
dried meat IS a cooking ingredient. Alton Brown did a camp-stew using homemade beef jerky. Just sayin'
Bosh 24 Jul, 2021 @ 12:36pm
Got a problem with this; dried meat is being included as a meat item in cooking; including for the drying rack itself.
TheGoofyOne  [author] 21 Jul, 2021 @ 10:37am
Yes :) Updated to 1.3
Bosh 19 Jul, 2021 @ 2:40pm
Any chance of a 1.3 update?
TheGoofyOne  [author] 24 May, 2021 @ 2:27pm
annpyinh shek - yeah me too. that was the original intention but I do not know C
