@VolatileGlitchAviator I assume that the hide is marked as rottable but not eatable for some reason. Only consumable items should use the rottable property so perhaps they should change that in whatever mod adds those hides.

well from mo got rats spawning on the items that are skinned from animals, i guess leather is the wrong word, more like raw hide before it gets turned into leather

I second a food catagory list for rats, they keep trying to eat/spawn leather from M/O that you get from skinning animals. Even though they will not eat it cause it isnt a food item doesnt stop them from spawning on top of it XD.

I love this mod and always have it installed, it adds such interesting animal behaviour and challenges with storage.

I was wondering if it would be possible to add a 'food' category of trash for compatibility with Ferny's trash/waste mod? https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3263035126&searchtext=trash

This would be like raccoons, bears, and other scavengers being attracted to trash being left out and encourage proper waste disposal.

If you get a colony fileld with rats this way, does it disable spawning other wild animals? Im a bit behind on my rat catching and the colony is full of them and I dont seem to get any other wild animals because of it

@Daevinski There has been no changes that could explain it so I suggest you try with only this mod loaded to rule out a mod-conflict

I noticed that corpses of rats spawned by this mod are not getting frozen anymore. I wonder if it's because I'm using Vanilla Temperature Expanded, or if something changed in 1.5 related to rats.

Any idea?

@The Bard of Hearts In my tests, waste-rats only spawned in polluted biomes. Unless the respect biome-option was turned off.
The limits defined by the mod only affects the spawning by the mod.

I also have a small question about the functionality of some options. If I set a spawn limit on the map for the rats, does that prevent the "natural" spawning of creatures to go beyond that limit? Say if I added raccoons to the list of spawnables but set a limit to 10. Would raccoons and rats only ever spawn (even naturally) to a sum of 10? or does that limit not account for natural spawnings? :d5_prinny:

so... two questions, I guess.

Not that its a big deal, in my opinion; but I thought I'd let you know that Waste Rats seem to be spawning in areas with no pollution whatsoever. Is this normal for this mod?

I did and at the time the only reported issue was the pawn issue on save. It looks like there's some XML Extensions bugs so I'll submit my log with the VE team thru their google doc. Thanks Mlie, for the help and the great mods. :)

It looks like Wasterats can still spawn on tiles that aren't polluted. Normally I think they're only supposed to spawn on tiles that are 40% + polluted.

Do you think you could add an option so that certain animals will only spawn next to corpses and not food that is going rotten? This is a really cool mod and adding flexibility only makes it even cooler.

@mlie Awesome, thank you. I used this and another mod to crank up their hunger rates when it came time to end a medieval playthrough. The rats devoured everything and everyone.

@Lokiamis Actually they never spawned with low hunger, as they spawned with a forced eating job of the thing that spawned them. But as dessicated corpses cannot be eaten without mods, they just wandered away.
Now they should spawn hungry either way.

It looks like the rats always spawn with full hunger meters if they appear on dessicated corpses. They should still be hungry imo.

I feed the corpses to my turtles since they’re also listed as omnivorous grazers in their diets (I plan to at least I haven’t found a turtle yet)
