Yeah I see, but then again, there might be a need for criteria and stuff, and besides, the copyright holder might still remain even after the devs and players have gone already.
(Which tbh, I think players won't be truly gone.)

I mean abandonware as in like, both the developers AND the players have completely left the game, meaning exploits and stuff wouldn't be that big of a deal, and in terms of previous games, that would mean extra effort to fix lingering bugs from previous versions of the game, or to fix those bugs in the older game if it's still active

Yeah I understand, but still, it's complicated and will most likely not work, due to it concerns too many people's right on the product itself, like the source code or the assets, which might also pave a way for hackers if the new game inherits previous games' glitch or exploits that they might find on the previous installments that are now considered abandonwares.

I wish there was a specific license where if a game abandonware, the assets become public domain, and the code is made open source, that'd be the perfect way to avoid wasting hard work and to breathe new life into a game, or at least the effort put into it

Yeah I know, pretty shame it has to go down this way.

And yeah, it's one of the main reason why I want to bring models from other abandoned, cancelled or discontinued games to Gmod and SFM, to let the hard-works made by those talented people not be forgotten and still find a new place for them to be used and be remembered by others.

(Although technically it's still a grey area on whether this should be allowed or not, but considering that I didn't use them for commercial purposes, it's probably fine, for most part at least.)

I really hope the modelers and artists that worked on the game these are from get the opportunity to work on another game that actually succeeds. These look amazing, and it's a waste of talent to have them designed for a terrible game
