WOOOO! CHESS UPDATE!

Much needed update. Could not replicate issue with deconstructing. When I deconstruct the kit I get all the pieces in the correct placement. Preview images have also been updated.

You are the first person to ever notice and point that out. Now i gotta patch it.

Deconstructing the chess set only yields black pieces, no white pieces. Literally unplayable.

Also as a chess nerd I am legally required to inform you that the colors of the squares are supposed to be inverse (or rotated 90 degrees). A1 is a dark square and H1 is a light square.

Finally, in your picture for the mod the kings and queens are on the wrong squares. Embarrassing.

Cool now we just need monopoly lol

New update today. Let me know if anyone finds any issues. Completely reworked how the chess kit works.

@R4skall, It's been an update or two since I have checked on this. Normally if you didn't have space the pieces would just fall on the floor. I will check if that is broken and see what I can do to fix, thanks for the heads up.

if you use the chess set kit and dont have space to hold all the pieces any you cant hold are voided from existence

The kit idea was added in my last update. "Chess Set Kit". You aim with it and press E, and it drops a board and all the pieces to play. I have been wondering about how to deal with dead pieces as well. Currently I stack them on top of other pieces which is helpful. You can also store them in your hotbar. I have considered adding 1 extra row to the board for placing dead pieces as well. Sadly I can't create 2 inventories on 1 item. It seems to be a limitation of modding currently. I havn't found anyone or any other mod that gets around this problem, otherwise i would implement it.

I support the commentator from below about creating a kit.
There would still be slots for "killed" figures and installation somewhere other than the control panel.

can you make it so the chess set is fabricated all at once? i.e., a "chest set" item which contains all the pieces? similar to how canister shells starts loaded. This would be more efficient for fabrication and pack up nicer.

@VolcanoTheGod I might be able to. I want to get a better sprite for the chessboard and maybe the pieces too. The main problem is that items in game are the same size as their sprite so a sharper/bigger sprite = massive chess pieces. I will do some experimenting sometime though.

This is a placeable item, you can right click and press E to place it somewhere. Both players can access a container at the same time.

i mean i play single player, but this is a really cool idea, i am not sure how 2 people can use the same object though? is it one moves and drops, then the other does it?

all in all, pretty neat.
