Good deed has been done. Keep it up!
And when people didn't say what you wanted to hear (how amazing your message was and how right you were about it), and instead called you out on the bullshit, you tried to throw the 'I'm being punished for being unafraid to speak my mind.' cliche.
Oh, and by "being unafraid to speak your mind" you were doing the exact thing you accused us of being insufferable for. Pot, meet kettle. You were being just as insufferable, if not more so because nobody asked for you to grace us with your judgement.
You're not going to undo hatred born out of religious indoctrination, and we sure as hell aren't going to tolerate it. Bullies have no place in a community, and it's not our job to be nice to them. So booting them out is a perfectly effective option.
You can't coexist with people who want you dead. And anyone who thinks you can is a naïve, privileged fool who has never had to fight for his basic human rights, freedom, and the right to simply exist.
I think you stepped into an issue without knowing/understanding it. I didn't comment much in this thread, because sometimes saying nothing is the best thing to do. It's my opinion that you should have done this.
"one cannot ban hate, ignorance, bigotry and stupidity, only enforce it by trying. "
As the admin/moderator of about half the Cities Skylines community, who bans about 10 people a week and roughly 30 a week in Pride Month, for exactly that:
Yes, you very much can.
It's called moderation. That's literally what it's for. The only problem is most communities are run by people who don't want to risk other people thinking negatively of them. You can't be an admin and be friends with everyone. You either take a stand or end up with a community full of trolls and bigots.
I will say this though, one cannot ban hate, ignorance, bigotry and stupidity, only enforce it by trying.
Women and minorities have always been called "Insufferable" for standing up for themselves. Mostly because people don't like seeing other people get all the attention in the room. So not much has changed there.
To watch hatred and stand by in silence is to approve and support hatred.
I do not regret for one nanosecond going nuclear on a bunch of braindead bigoted trolls, nor do I regret trolling them back. And if in doing so I defend people who are being attacked for simply existing, I will gladly risk someone else thinking I'm "insufferable". Especially if those people are my friends.
Better to be deemed insufferable than to remain silent in fear of judgement.
You consider all this appropriate for the Steam workshop?
I reported the group and post and internal comments.
Steam seems to be where hate goes to hide and fester.
As for anything written, any context making it look appropriate has now been removed and what we are left with doesn't look pretty, if not out right petty.
It looks like trying to convince people who are too far gone to change their opinion anyway, evidenced by the fact that they go to the comments of a freaking steam workshop asset of all things to spew their nonsense. Either that or feeding the trolls, which is, as everyone should know, what they want.
It has the effect of making anyone now looking at this comment section drawing conclusions I for one definitely wouldn't want them making. And that is a bummer, especially if your intention is the opposite in general.
The steam workshop comment section might not be the best place for any of this regardless.
As for what was deleted, for reference, I have an inbox full of "Action has been taken on a comment you reported" messages from Steam Community Moderation, solely from reporting bigots in the comment section.
