Does this work? Seems to break existing relationships.
Focaccia bread on a burner 4 Dec, 2024 @ 9:12pm
does this mod still work?

Does this mod break legacy relationships?
I had two legacy heroes that were soulmates and when I started a new campaign with both of them one got "**relationship_none" instead of a romance.

Hey, you seem like the sort who might be able to answer this question. I'd like for characters to be able to have multiple romantic relationships, but it seems like that's simply not an option in the current coding of the game.

I'd just like to know if this is a limitation that can be removed, or if the game's got monogamy hardcoded? Because as a Polyamorous person with several characters who are as well, I'd like to be able to play my lovely battlecule.
cavy 19 Aug, 2022 @ 11:18pm
Cool idea. Any chance for some relationship commentary on the crowtouched? I tend to end up with that more than wolf. Also, i loved your peacetime variety.
mosaiclobster 19 Jul, 2022 @ 8:54pm
Across multiple campaigns and 100+ hours of gameplay I still haven't seen any of these or the more peacetime variety, I know they're enabled so I'm just hoping I finally get lucky!
Merethys 23 Jun, 2022 @ 10:20am
I just got the "Of Love and Lochias" event for a couple where both partners were wolves. I like the idea of the event, but I don't think it makes any sense in this specific situation. It should require the second character to NOT be wolftouched.

My mod doesn't include any events for the custom transformations from Expanded Humans: Themes, no. But the two mods also shouldn't conflict at all, so if your heroes have parts from the specific vanilla transformations relevant to one of my events, it should still be able to run.
Riyango 31 May, 2022 @ 12:00am
Is it compatible with the expanded themes mod ? Like does the dialogues/events trigger with modded transformations ?
Fireflower20002 26 Apr, 2022 @ 3:26pm
Ok. Then probably it's just me.
Alcukamo  [author] 24 Apr, 2022 @ 2:28pm
Hmm, I just pulled it up and it's spelled "Friendship" for me. That's actually the one that's used as the image for this mod, haha. Are you sure it was that event? I just went through all of them again and they all looked okay on my end.
Fireflower20002 24 Apr, 2022 @ 12:03am
Tides and Tensions Rising Has the Friendship Option spelled out as "Friendshi".
Alcukamo  [author] 19 Apr, 2022 @ 11:34am
Using debug mode again, there should be a "Finish chapter" objective at the top you can choose that will then show a list of tidings, you can look for ones that start with "morePeacetimeVariety". You need to do at least a 3 chapter game, since 1 chapter doesn't have the middle tidings. And all of the tidings also have specific requirements to show up at all, so many might not be available depending on your heroes' personalities (to give an example, one needs you to have both a hero with a high Healer personality and a hero with the Wolf transformation in the party). But there are a couple that just require two heroes to be in a romantic relationship that should show up in the list as long as that's true, as well as some that will show up if you have a parent hero(es) with their child in the party.
Krisys 17 Apr, 2022 @ 4:34am
Okay, thanks, I will try it out! :winter2019happyyul: Are there similar steps for the peacetime events?
Alcukamo  [author] 16 Apr, 2022 @ 7:46pm
Oh, also, to test that event you'll have to go to a Scouting tile.
Alcukamo  [author] 16 Apr, 2022 @ 7:39pm
Keep in mind that there are requirements that your characters have to meet for these events (a certain transformation, a certain relationship status, in a certain location, etc.) or they can't trigger. And of course even if they're eligible they might just not be rolled. The simplest check is to go to Options > Mods and make sure that this and Peacetime Variety are enabled. If they are, you can try running in debug mode (you can Google how to do that) and seeing if the events show up in the list when using the Pick Events option, but again, they'll only show up if the requirements for an event are being met. If I remember correctly, Tides and Tensions Rising should be easier to check for since it doesn't need a certain map type and just needs at least two heroes who are at least level 2 rivals with each other and are able to be in a romance (so not related or already with someone else).
Krisys 15 Apr, 2022 @ 11:26am
I've been playing with the mod active for several campaigns now, and I don't believe I've ever seen any of the events. It might just be my luck, but is there any way to make sure that the mod is active and is able to trigger? I believe I also have the same issue on your other "More Peacetime Variety" mod :KiaraSad:
thrythlind 10 Mar, 2022 @ 10:52am
Yay!
Alcukamo  [author] 10 Mar, 2022 @ 10:51am
To answer your question, thrythlind: Yes, you can continue to pursue a poly romance.
thrythlind 7 Mar, 2022 @ 10:49am
Re: The Shadow thing... is there a dialogue option that leans poly?
Alcukamo  [author] 20 Jan, 2022 @ 7:40pm
There shouldn't be any conflicts with any other event mods. Only a mod that affects how the comics are actually displayed (the size of the boxes, the size or font of the text, etc.) should have an impact, if you have anything like that. Otherwise, like I said, I'm not sure what the issue could be since I can't get it display incorrectly on my end, sorry!
Zer0h1nder 20 Jan, 2022 @ 7:32pm
The only other event mod I use is "Choose your relationships". Do you think there are any compatibility issues there?
Alcukamo  [author] 20 Jan, 2022 @ 7:15pm
Zer0h1nder, are you perhaps using any other mods that change how comics are displayed? I just rechecked this in both the editor and the game itself and the text you mentioned shows up correctly in-panel for me, so I'm not sure how to recreate your issue unless it's a compatibility problem.
Zer0h1nder 20 Jan, 2022 @ 12:21pm
The text of the specter in "A Change of Fate" is partly outside of the image panel, specifically the words "and it shall come to pass"
Alcukamo  [author] 15 Jan, 2022 @ 7:21pm
Cyborg Scorpion, they should work just fine together (I have both in my game and haven't run into any issues)
Cyborg Scorpion 15 Jan, 2022 @ 3:49pm
Is this compatible with Love is in the Air?
Q 4 Jan, 2022 @ 7:23pm
Hi again, so I checked the dev-mod and realized that 'hero 2 can love hero 1' is set as a trigger for your two 'rival->romance/friend/rival' events. I assume that's why I couldn't play those events with my heroes before.
Anyhow, I just played those events! I love your mod! It's fun, witty and vanilla Wildermith-ish. Events didn't feel forced and I am totally buying these romances! This mod definitely deserves more views. Thanks for creating it and sharing it with the world.
Q 4 Jan, 2022 @ 5:30pm
Mind if I ask what exactly triggers 'Tides and Tension Rising'? I think my heroes meet the requirement (rivals, no family members) but somehow it doesn't work
Alcukamo  [author] 9 Oct, 2021 @ 12:34pm
A couple of these events do actually already add temporary bonuses to the next fight! But, just like with vanilla Wildermyth encounters, not every event provides a bonus.
YourLittlePogchamp 29 Sep, 2021 @ 11:57pm
If these events are going to happen in place of other ones that can give temporary combat bonuses, shouldn't these do the same? Like if lovers reconfirm their romance they should receive an armor/warding bonus before a fight.
Nobby Nobbs 31 Aug, 2021 @ 8:35pm
Nice mod, thanks
threepwood444 24 Aug, 2021 @ 9:18am
Great mod! Adds some relly nice touches. Thank you.
Alcukamo  [author] 1 Aug, 2021 @ 12:29pm
Alrighty, I've fixed up the math surrounding the variables in some events, so the necessary theme pieces should now always be required for an event to run. I think this should also help prevent family members from showing up in any romantic events, but that could have been about mod-incompatibility so more testing might be required for that one!
Alcukamo  [author] 1 Aug, 2021 @ 11:23am
Huh, interesting. I just double checked and that event is only set to run if the second hero has at least one of either the Elmsoul or Botanical arms/legs...no flags for the pinecone pet or any wood-related gear. I'll look into it further to try to figure out what's up. Thanks for letting me know!
Kamrous The Banana Slug 31 Jul, 2021 @ 8:52pm
Oh, she also has a leaf wand. And I guess I also have her with Naturalist and Arches as well. She's heavily plant based despite not actually being one, so... idk :P
Kamrous The Banana Slug 31 Jul, 2021 @ 8:49pm
I think I might have a little issue? In, "Like a spark to kindling," (I think is the name at least. I JUST looked at it x.x) my character with flamesoul is saying their bit to their celestial partner?? O.o And the celestial is talking about how she's made of wood?? She has a pet pinecone, but uh... she's starstuff lol
Alcukamo  [author] 31 Jul, 2021 @ 11:42am
I would assume so, yes, since it works with all the basegame monsters. Have you run into that kind of dialogue issue with basegame events like "Anchors" that use the same kind of code to call out the monster being fought in that chapter?
Trrr Skibidi Dop Dop Yes Yes WWW 31 Jul, 2021 @ 2:52am
Whatever tomorrow brings dialogue has the lines "The last <threat.singular> falls to the..." Is this a mod compatibility issues since the fight beforehand was from a mod with custom monsters?
opaj 26 Jul, 2021 @ 11:59am
They were part of Stanfreed's modded starts.
Alcukamo  [author] 26 Jul, 2021 @ 11:24am
Ah, interesting. Were they from the Eluna and the Moth campaign or one of Stanfreed's modded starts?
opaj 24 Jul, 2021 @ 11:47pm
Good luck. I was tinkering with family-based events in the editor a few weeks ago and had some really confusing/inconsistent results, so I feel that pain.

If it makes a difference, they were set as siblings at the start of the campaign, rather than being two characters who were born to the same hero-parents. I wonder if heroes created this way aren't properly receiving the familyWith| (sp?) aspect.
Alcukamo  [author] 24 Jul, 2021 @ 6:53pm
Haha, oh dear! I double checked and the heroes selected for Whatever Tomorrow Brings are already required to be "not family with," so it seems like that should be excluding sibling pairs. Though while teaching myself how to mod Wildermyth, family relationships were the ones that were more confusing (they're not as simplistic as the friend/rival/lover relationships), so I can't rule out that the problem came from my end rather than yours. I'll try to look into it more! Thanks for the feedback!
opaj 23 Jul, 2021 @ 11:27pm
I'm enjoying this mod and the writing is quite lovely. I did have a bit of an awkward moment in Whatever Tomorrow Brings when a brother and sister briefly contemplated taking their friendship to another level. You may want to double-check the restrictions to make sure all family relationships are being excluded.

(If they are, it's possible that there's something wrong happening in the siblings relationship of this specific pair... Hmm...)
tamtitam 22 Jul, 2021 @ 1:28am
Ah. Of course. I knew I've alreade seen the spirit somewhere...

I think the peacetime-comic works because it's so poetic and mysterious. You don't get ANY information of how the PC meets the spirit and their conversations. So it can be short, without feeling too abrupt or destroying the suspension of disbelieve. I actually think your event would work really nice if you just copied the wording from the peacetime-event 1:1. It would also allow the more thick-witted of us to get the connection. ^^

But IF we get to experience them actual meeting, we need a bit more background.

And maybe it's a good idea, not to show the whole conversation of the PCs, but instead have the narration say something similar to: "After a short conversation, X and Y come to a decision" - so we can headcanon what they are talking about and why they want to end their rivalry.
Alcukamo  [author] 21 Jul, 2021 @ 5:36pm
Thanks for the feedback! I actually pulled the "ivy spirit who offers three possible fates" from one of the existing comics you can get in the peacetime interval -- I've gotten that comic about a dozen times by this point, but since you're right and other people might not have seen it, elaborating on it in the event itself is a good idea! Also, "Lochias" is the name of the Wolf God that gives your hero the wolf transformation. ;)
tamtitam 21 Jul, 2021 @ 5:32pm
I also happened to encounter "Of Love and Lochias". This one I really liked. It's nice to see a reaction (and some doubt) of partners after a transformation. I am bit ambivalent on the whole "I can't control my wolf-nature"-chlichee. But this might just be because I always headcanon all the characters having full control over their transformations... I didn't get the name, though. What does Lochias refer to?

All in all, I like your writing. And your mods adress exactly the kinds of events that I feel are missing in vanilla right now! I'll definitely use them in the next campains I play. Thanks for the good work!
tamtitam 21 Jul, 2021 @ 5:31pm
Concerning "A Change of Fate": I felt like something was missing in this event. Maybe some background on the spirits magic. Right now, it definitely just feels like a mere mechanic, close to breaking the 4th wall.
One idea I came up with: Maybe the NPCs have heard legends about this spirit and his mysterious power, to give people the oportionity of a fresh start? (And they'll never really know if it's the spirits magic or them believing in it...). So they have a short conversation about it, giving the much needed background, some emotions and making the event-resolution less abrupt. Maybe that's not the most creative solution and you'll come up with something better - but the event does need a bit more grounding to really work.
tamtitam 21 Jul, 2021 @ 5:19pm
It was just because of the biome. I looked it up in the list of events and then tried it with a forest afterwards.
Alcukamo  [author] 21 Jul, 2021 @ 4:48pm
Oh, whoops, that one also has a limit on which biomes it can happen in: needs to be a forest, swamp, hills, or lake. The two heroes also need to not already be in a romance. If neither of those was the issue, you should be able to scroll down in the list of events; the ones that can't run are underneath the ones that are possible to choose. It should tell you in general why "A Change of Fate" can't be chosen; would you be able to let me know what it says? I've tested it multiple times with multiple heroes, but I might have missed something!
Alcukamo  [author] 21 Jul, 2021 @ 1:32pm
Have you ever used devmode, tamtitam? You can use this guide on the wiki [wildermyth.com] to get it set up (you just make an empty Notepad document called devmode.txt and save it in your Wildermyth folder, then when you start a new game make sure you enable cheats and choose "Pick Events"). That will allow you to choose which event runs when you arrive at a location, so you can pick one of the ones from this mod. Probably the easiest to meet the conditions for is "A Change of Fate", which just needs two heroes in the party who are rivals and who can romance each other (neither is already in a romance, and they're attracted to each other's genders).

I did try my best to keep the tone and comic style as close to the main game as possible, so these events should fit in pretty seamlessly! I'm pretty picky about my event mods too, so I wanted to make these ones blend in!
