For advice though, I'd recommend once you have a part copied in that you want to connect to another part hover over the existing part > hold ALT down > hover the mouse over the connection point > release ALT > rotate/connect how you please. Hope that helps!

I am planning on making a video tutorial which will also showcase the modular builds. But I'm not planning on making it until the pieces are more complete.
