the story about the HEP lok experiment is pretty obscure. i've only known this from a video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k66OPao7TGE . the lok in question is the CC 201 38.

the article about KAI's order of coahes can be found here. the 438 stainless steel cars that have been delivered consists of 210 K1 cars, 150 K3 cars, 39 M1 cars, and 39 P cars.

Fascinating...Where did you learn about this? I looked online for answers initially but couldn't find anything...

it seems so but as a part of a bulk order of 800+ coaches to INKA they probably got a huge discount from it. the loks here are considerably smaller than its american counterparts so installing a HEP isn't exactly an easy task. one prototype they had found reduction in traction performance and limited power output, it couldn't supply enough electricity for the aircon.

Seems like a lot of extra costs getting a power car instead of installing HEP....

i don't think KAI owns any lok with HEP. though, there's one HEP-equipped lok, the CC 300 owned by the DoT, not KAI. KAI seem to be more interested in getting new DMUs and EMUs than going after HEP-equipped loks.

@meshd
does that mean that some KAI locomotives don't have HEP?

M1 is dining car, and P is power car. i know that the power car isn't needed for this lok but i added it there just because it's there on the real set, albeit with a diesel lok.

What type of train cares are the ones labled 'M1' and 'P' in the technical details?
