I'd definitely look into giving the white texture a more "off white" color that has some warm yellow. Along with giving the whole texture paint strokes with a semi-transparent square brush. I do like the hidden bones idea but I think you should remove some bones so they look more scattered and less repeated.

As for the main texture I unfortunately don't like it. I can't think of anything to really improve it. I'd really just say save the secondary texture idea for a future warpaint with a slightly better primary texture
