millerchristophd, well i dont recall how the things are scripted in this mod, but you may try this:
locate the mod's files in the documents/my games/civ/manifest destiny, uniques are set in one of the XML files, you can open it with notepad or any other text editor. replace UNIT_AMERICAN_B17 with UNIT_AMERICAN_MINUTEMAN
millerchristophd 14 Oct, 2020 @ 3:49pm
Old thread for an old game, I know, but: Is there a way for the Saloon to replace the Minutemen instead of the B17?
Vunu 3 Nov, 2019 @ 12:21pm
nevermind, i got it! i just deleted all of the files besides the city viewer and then edited the range to < 1 instead of < 2. :)
Vunu 31 Oct, 2019 @ 9:54pm
hi! any way i can get everything in this mod besides the saloon change? :)
~Xadrian~ 27 Sep, 2017 @ 7:33pm
EUI mod isnt on workshop, its on civfantics website. I don't have a strong understanding of lua code though I tried to do so already. I'll see aabout getting up with the dev of that mod to see if I can figure it out, thanks for responding!
Mk Z  [author] 25 Sep, 2017 @ 11:51pm
Sade_Skirata, it seems theres no "enhanced ui" in the steam workshop (only some modmods). So i give a general advice. Technically it should not be hard, you have to take my changes i introduced into the cityview.lua to the citiview.lua of that mod and then delete (or rename) the citiview.lua of my mod. My changes are marked with "-- manifest destiny" comments to locate them easier (there are 3 places). Some UI code will have to be modified according to the new structure of that mod's UI logic.

Actually made america worth it so that's neat
~Xadrian~ 17 Sep, 2017 @ 3:48pm
I understand it is a late request, but it possible to make this mod compatible with the enhanced ui mod? I acknowledge that I don't have the right to request anything of you that you arn't willing to do, but even if you did not, would you be able to possibly help get me on the right track?
andysec18 13 Jan, 2017 @ 9:15pm
Perfect. Like the Louisiana purchase!
Tom 26 Dec, 2016 @ 7:37pm
(Buys the whole city) Shank you for your land.
NyanSequitur 24 May, 2016 @ 7:55am
good! it makes it less unbalanced.
Mk Z  [author] 24 May, 2016 @ 7:44am
legoman5746, yes
NyanSequitur 24 May, 2016 @ 7:26am
Does the civilization you took land from get the money you spent on the tile?
Solestius 23 Mar, 2016 @ 10:00pm
I like these improvements, especially the fact that you can now purchase land that belongs to other Civ's. This angers them but who cares, I don't. LOL.
EdenStarGazer 19 Mar, 2016 @ 12:03pm
Nice idea for a mod!
JohnConnor 1 Dec, 2015 @ 3:32am
Now that I think about it more, you're right about the rivers.. Causality vs casuality. Anyways, the militaristic-imperialistic idea from Doh is interesting. Gl
Mk Z  [author] 10 Nov, 2015 @ 4:57am
DohEntertainment, interesting idea and it seems its doable. i'll try it.
DohEnt 10 Nov, 2015 @ 1:48am
Honestly. I think it'd be better to redesign America as an "Anti-Shoshone" civ. I feel it would reflect the country's imperialist legacy very well. Maybe a +15% combat bonus on the continent(speaking mapwise; i.e. America, Third World) the original capital is on?
Mk Z  [author] 9 Nov, 2015 @ 10:23pm
LaBandaRoja, i dont think America is tied to rivers that much and i already have an America mod ;)
JohnConnor 9 Nov, 2015 @ 1:57pm
Z, you didn't like my idea for a Liberty-river-based America civ?
DohEnt 6 Nov, 2015 @ 12:12pm
Thank you.
Mk Z  [author] 6 Nov, 2015 @ 8:37am
DohEntertainment, ok it seems i had to make it a separate mod..
if you want to bring B17 back, simply rename or delete Saloon.xml in the mod's folder ("My Documents\Games\Civ\Mods\Manifest...\")
DohEnt 6 Nov, 2015 @ 12:21am
I'm just saying. I liked the addition of the gold being paid sent to the "partner" that you added recently, but it's the sudden addition of a Saloon that sort of sullies it, and makes it more incompatible with other mods. Besides, who doesn't like a good ol' B-17 bombing once in a while?
Mk Z  [author] 5 Nov, 2015 @ 11:42pm
DohEntertainment, why dont you like it?
DohEnt 5 Nov, 2015 @ 10:46pm
Would you make a version of the mod without the Saloon building?
Mk Z  [author] 1 Nov, 2015 @ 4:23am
v2 release!
Mk Z  [author] 24 Oct, 2015 @ 10:35pm
RothX, done
RothX 18 Oct, 2015 @ 7:48am
I think all gold spent should go to the previous owner.
JohnConnor 31 Mar, 2015 @ 5:24am
Also, could start with a scout, or one appears upo researching one of the technologies, e.g. sailing (in reference to Lewis and Clark, who sailed through rivers all the way to the west coast)
JohnConnor 31 Mar, 2015 @ 4:59am
isn't this mod kind of OP?

I think the improvement to USA should be:

1) Add +1 to river/lake tiles (reflects the wealth of the colonies, and encourages to settle on rivers and lakes)
AND
2) 25% faster expansion through culture (perfect for manifest destiny, I'm actually surprised the devs didn't add this in the first place)
OR
3) Finally, cheaper hammer/gold requirements for settlers (historically accurate, as the American colonies expanded west rather quickly)

That, imo, would be the perfect Manifest Destiny buff as they synergyze perfectly for fast expansion through settlers. The strategy would be to expand onto river tiles, make money, and use that to make new settlers

I'd do it myself, but I'm not very good with .xml and I don't have time to learn it right now.

Peter, please, could you make a simple mod like this?
amelia 24 Oct, 2014 @ 4:34pm
Question, do the civs which you buy from get the gold?
lauging @ ur face 17 Sep, 2014 @ 6:00pm
Look at all that freedom
Mk Z  [author] 14 Sep, 2014 @ 7:24pm
Craig Boone, i didnt say it was the most imperialistic state. it wasnt, as everyone knows, and it was more expansionistic than imperialistic, preferring dealing to waging wars, whats reflected in the mod.

Isnt interested enough in making a vanilla version, sorry.
goldenfiberwheat238 12 Sep, 2014 @ 3:07pm
You're calling America impierialistic? Look at every other Western civilization at the time. The British took over India and so many other places. The French tried to take over Europe. Scramble for Africa mean anything to you? And look at Russia and the Ottoman empire. The War of 1812 was fought because the British were impressing American merchants into the British Navy...and a few other things. Think before you call America impierialistic.
goldenfiberwheat238 12 Sep, 2014 @ 2:55pm
can you make a vanilla version?
Mk Z  [author] 31 Aug, 2014 @ 11:42pm
American colonists flooded Louisiana, Florida, Oregon, just like Texas. If those lands werent ceded, the Texas scenario would take place there. Revolt and inclusion into US. Owners knew that.

Alaska was quite profitable for Russia, it only was sold because in case of a possible war with Britain it could not be defended as the Russian fleet could't compete with the Britain's.
Mk Z  [author] 30 Aug, 2014 @ 11:25pm
kylag, i got those facts from wikipedia and i find it quite trustworthy as there are links to research. then, US actually did annex Texas, and thied to conquer Canda (well this is quite controversial), so i think it was the same story (well except maybe Alaska) if the owners of those territories didnt sell those. for a fire sale price.
誰がwombat 30 Aug, 2014 @ 4:07pm
This sounds great for a world map. America taking the Native's land by purchasing instead of conquest. :O ware ther fire water pls
Mk Z  [author] 19 Aug, 2014 @ 11:58am
Episodes like Texas annexion were anticipated by settling the territory by Americans, which can be viewed as land purchasing in the game mechanics - the player pays gold to establish settlements.
Mk Z  [author] 19 Aug, 2014 @ 11:39am
To stop the Seminole Indians based in East Florida from raiding Georgia settlements and offering havens for runaway slaves, the U.S. Army led increasingly frequent incursions into Spanish territory. This included the 1817–1818 campaign by Andrew Jackson that became known as the First Seminole War, after which the US effectively controlled East Florida. Secretary of State John Quincy Adams said the US had to take control because Florida had become "a derelict open to the occupancy of every enemy, civilized or savage, of the United States, and serving no other earthly purpose than as a post of annoyance to them." - so, invaded first, bought second.
Mk Z  [author] 19 Aug, 2014 @ 11:37am
kylag, Florida before the cession was also encroached on by American settlers. By 1819 Spain was forced to negotiate, as it was losing its hold on its American empire, with its western territories primed to revolt. While fighting escaped African-American slaves, outlaws, and Native Americans in U.S.-controlled Georgia during the First Seminole War, American General Andrew Jackson had pursued them into Spanish Florida. He attacked and captured Spanish forts (!), such as the Negro Fort, in Florida that he thought were assisting the raids into American territory. Not a very peaceful action, right?
Mk Z  [author] 19 Aug, 2014 @ 11:26am
kylag, Louisiana was filled with American migrants. It was about to flip from Spain which owned it but suddenly it was ceded to France. Jefferson viewed this as a hostile action and threatened an alliance with Britain. So it was not a friendly deal no way, and was not initiated by sellers. Originally americans wanted only New Orleans (and were willing to fight for it) but french desided to sell the whole Louisiana as a way to defuse potential conflict between the United States and Napoleon over North America. The price was less than 3 cents per acre, not much bigger than that of the later Alaska Purchase while the land was much better.
Mk Z  [author] 14 Aug, 2014 @ 8:41pm
kylag, this sort of argument was addressed earlier. Those purchases were not friendly deals and were more like extortions. US neightbors sold the land to prevent or end a war. In the mod thats simulated by attitude worsening after purchase. So, to some extent, and if you have imagination, this mod IS historical. Its a game and many things are abstracted. Devs do this to keep it playable / manage costs.
shorai1 21 Jul, 2014 @ 7:26pm
I'd love to see this in game for all civs, like the diplomatic marriage mod. Would have the consequence of making the American 50% discount viable again too.
DarkestOnion 14 Jul, 2014 @ 11:52am
Ah I have also hit the XML/LUA wall, I understand :)
Mk Z  [author] 14 Jul, 2014 @ 11:09am
darkorion69, this mod is essentially an interface "hack". Enabling owned land buying for AI would require too much coding...
DarkestOnion 13 Jul, 2014 @ 9:26pm
Great idea, but giving it to players and not the AI seems a little unbalanced. On testing was the American AI buying too much or weirdly maybe?
Achilleus 5 Jul, 2014 @ 9:04am
This is a great idea!
Lilithvia 25 May, 2014 @ 11:04am
Should be expanded to Civ 5 Original... As I can run it on Original, but it screws up my city screen stuff [cannot click anything, and Info for city does NOT update.]
Rozee 23 May, 2014 @ 2:24pm
darrellkkellie He was refering to American Indians known properly as Native Americans.
