Good addon with lots of combat
Thank you once again for your awesome contribution to the community
p.s. shout-out to @Skummeh and his most awesome Workshop-content Review-Table; he has a keen understanding of what makes a map good and his high rating of this & your other map(s) map caught my attention
My accidentally-discovered solution to your situation was to get on the train first, and then fight the 2 enemies. If memory serves, I couldn't kill them both before the train pulled out. I reckoned it was a countdown to the train taking off once the switch was pulled, except I had no idea there was a countdown.
Yeah it's really good.
Some Steam Point are definitely coming your way for a level that created emotional highs and lows to the point after completing the level I asked my wife for a cigarette, and she reminded me that neither of us smoke. Bravo!!
- Early in the level, it was even fun when outdoors has some windows had refelctions that felt realistic enough to give me pause, and reflect (pun intended) on the beauty of the situation.
- Some of the 'set pieces' (mostly of Combine architecture) were beautifully done, especially towards the end of the level. One scene with the tall lighted towers slightly reminded me of the Naboo Power Room from Star Wars Episode I, to another set piece which reminded me of the Star Trek Warp Core.
- The one Jeff encounter started out tense as heck, but ultimately felt flat when I realized no matter how fast or slow I went, no matter if I stood on top of something and remained still, Jeff was not coming thru the thick glass until the very end. This was still fun, but when compared to the other more strictly-based timed events, it didn't have the same 'weight' to it.
- The allocation of ammo was almost perfectly balanced throughout the entire game. There were multiple times to where I was dangerously close to being out of ammo, but there was always some ammo nearby (but I was usually running around like a chicken with its head cut off, trying not to die).
- This game had multiple time-based game play mechanics I don't recall seeing elsewhere: (i) getting onto the train, (ii) that damnable laser-grid puzzle ball portion, and (iii) turning all those levers before the appearance of that Gorgeous-Man. This resulted in a lot of repeated attempts, but also bought with it enough drama and tension to make one swear in vain.
- Game performance was solid throughout the entire game. No noticeable frameskips or re-projections.
- Smooth locomotion and smooth turning worked great. Weapon selection was fine/
- Overall, this game caused me to break the Third Commandment that nearly approached double digits. Four of them came from an assortment of Combine on both a lower and upper corridor type-level; the other five came from solving the 'puzzle ball' with the Resident Evil Movie laser grid bearing down on my tush.
- Despite the flair up of anger during portions of the game, this game really showed how largely existing assets within HL:A can be put together in such a meticulously crafted and clever fashion that I went from a "This looks a lot like other workshop offerings I've played" to "G-Damn (make that double digits now!)! I made it, and it it was so different from other offerings!"
If you get stuck in a loop in the train part, don't kill the combine, run and hide in the train until it moves to the next stage.
