The first two were not very complex, even easy, but limited. Then it all resulted into a very awesome extended dzr_notes. So all vanilla notes are just deprecated and legasy (though should work).
Installing all three mods on one server was a mistake, because dzr_notes kindof already comprises the two vanilla mods functionality. Yo uprobably got yourself a conflict.
I will make a warning in descriptions, so others don't install all three.

Make sure the mod loads after all other mods.
Please, let me know if it works
Making it visual will require us to create image of every character, create or own alphabet of images, and then retexture a note item with those characters. Then place a model of the note on an item.
To me as a mooder this sounds like hell :) So I will 100% do the NON-visual version of the "item inscriptions" mod. Let's leave the visual version for the fuure :)
I have a prototype mod that allows leaving a note on ANY object. I mean anything that server stores as an item: trees, mushrooms, weapons, car doors... Almost everything. But not visually. You will have to click "read writing". So you can inscribe your weapon's buttstock, or a backpack, or a door of the house, or a carwheel. But not the wall of a house, because it is out of persistence and is a part of a map, not server.
I am dreaming of the same mod you described. I tried to do it easy way, but found a technical problem in the game engine. My junior plays Minecraft and I really like it when he simply places those poles with inscriptions anywhere on the map. But making it in DayZ is a bit harder.
Visual labels are very difficult. But I'm working on an alternative.
But by using this Mod and the Mod AdditionalMedicSupplies, the function with the blood test kit to get the player additional report is broken. The Report will spawn or drop empty in inventory.
I left a feedback on the Mod Page of AdditionalMedicSupplies.
Maybe you guys can get in touch and solve this issue :D
Thank you a lot and a happy new Year!
@tesch89:
Yes, you have to increse the number in your types.xml to let the pens spawn.
now it works great !
Thanks a lot for the fix and I wish you a lot of success in your further work.
I will launch my test server too now.
I also plan a bit different game mechanics as a separate mod. It is in developemnt now. It will be completely new approach to interact with any object in game, and to make notes too. In short, I dream of creating the ability to write notes on ANY object in game. Literally. Well, except totally unrealistic writings, like writing on a meat steak, baked apple or lard. But 90% object in game you would name can really have a note on them.
In early Alpha devs did that and you could write on weapons, items, etc, like write notes now. But it was disabled very quickly and went to the end of the roadmap forever.
But I liked the idea and want to bring it back.
With paper notes it is purely cosmetic and immersion breaking. With items it can cause deaths (leaving a car door in the air on crossroads will crash anyone driving through).
So immersive placing is planed, but is not a priority until I research a proper way to place objects or destroy them with the surface it had been placed on.
I would have an idea for improvement - it would be good to be able to place a paper with a written message, for example on a fence / wall / street lamp...
