As for swinging left, it will do that if there isn't a target within the 22.5 degree cone either side of the bow. which is a limitation of Radar Assist controller it is using and Old SW Radars.
The portside launcher tends to have a lesser ability to detect a target than the starboardside one, I have no idea why.
@Thot Slayer, target must be within 3km and a 45 degree cone around the bow. The radar warning receiver only beeps if the radar detector is hit by another ship or aircraft's radar.
