Is there anyway to disable the option of not being able to swap profession as I trust my friends enough to not exploit it and would like them to still have the option to swap

@Hex Do you have all the submods (the ones that start BE) activated? In order to make the additional bombs, the submods need to be activated for the ones you want

Am I supposed to get the recipes at spawn as an Engineer or do I have to find them? Because I currently have none of the new recipes but I know the mod is activated because I saw the toolbox trait in character creation

This mod still has a game breaking bug where if you die and respawn (in multiplayer, maybe singleplayer too) you can't respawn as anything other than an engineer.

I took the profession of an engineer and put this mod at the bottom of the list

I don't see any other recipes other than propane bomb

@Sykomyke feel free to go look at the BetterEngineerSpawn.lua code, they're all there. They're working when I test it, thanks for the heads up & if I get others saying they have the same bug then I guess I'll pull the mod down till I figure it out :steamthumbsup:

Essentially I'm telling you, craft helper doesn't cause conflicts. Disabling it, and going to the vanilla craft menu, I still don't see the recipes in the engineer tab.

I understand you make and tend to this mod in your free time, and I appreciate that.
And I assure you, I'm not trying to be rude here; but you're sitting here and telling me that when I disable *ALL* other mods except yours, go to the vanilla craft menu and it still doesn't appear that it somehow is still my own fault/my own conflict and I should just go F off?

That's proof that it's the *only* mod installed on a brand new world with a new character. I go to the vanilla crafting tab for engineer, I see the recipes posted in the previous posts imgur upload, but no lightbulb, lunchbox, or alternate hairspray recipes.

The vanilla craft menu was the first thing I checked. The reason that craft helper is showing the "mod conflict" literature is because it detects that the recipe exists in-game (hence the lunchbox bomb) but that my character cannot craft it due to missing the "recipe" for it. Beyond that, it doesn't do anything else. *PARTS* of your mod are working beautifully. But other parts unfortunately are not: https://i.imgur.com/iABVtqW.png

As per this screenshot, your jankomite (and it's necessary step preparation recipes) are showing up. In addition Propane Bomb *also* shows up. I can also confirm that the bigger noise generator also is working and showing properly as well. It's really just the hairspray, lightbulb, and lunchbox that are giving issues. I'm just letting you know that I've thoroughly tested and disabled all other mods, I've followed the instructions in the mod and ensured the parent mod and all of the child mods are enabled. It's possible that something is bugged.

@Sykomyke check your vanilla crafting menu, the “modconflict” literature was added to help people running conflicting profession mods. “Craft helper” saying it’s a requirement is incorrect & I can only guess is a conflict with that mod. I’ve been unable to replicate this issue at my end & you’re the only person to have reported the issue, which leans to their being a conflict at your end

I chose engineer as the starting class.
I started a *brand new map* with a *brand new character*.
I disabled all mods with the exception of mod config, craft helper, and some car mods and your Better Engineer mod of course.

This imgur shows the results.

All of the recipes (as shown in the imgur screenshot above) with the exception of the propane bomb, require a "literature item" (also shown in the screenshot). These literature items act similar to skill magazines for default/vanilla recipes. They show up as "modconflict" in the craft helper searcher, they aren't spawned with the character, and they don't appear to exist in the world (in fact the only "recipe" that exists in the world is the jankomite recipe, however it's not a true recipe it's already granted to you, the "recipe" is just a step by step guide)

@Sykomyke That sounds like you've activated the additional bomb mods (the submods that start BE) in an existing save, sadly the engineer receives the recipes upon character creation, this stems from a quirk in the vanilla engineer setup & how the game grants those recipes.
Either starting again (& maybe gifting yourself your loot using debug if a fresh start is something you'd prefer to avoid) OR using debug to grant yourself the recipes, downside of this is currently there is no way in debug to choose what recipes to learn, it just gives you all of them

Hey Dark, sorry to bother again, but do the lightbulb bomb, lunchbox bomb, and hairspray bomb are all showing as "requiring books" (see screenshot here: https://imgur.com/a/4c7ERrk )

I've verified that I have no other profession change mods but if you message me directly I can provide a screenshot of the mods I'm using (the only mod that would even come close to changing professions is the "more traits" mod, but it doesn't change professions).

I've tried ensuring that the entire mod list you suggested is active prior to starting a brand new map and it's not working unfortunately.

@Sykomyke with just the BetterEngineer ModID you'll get a 1 point cost trait that gives you a toolbox with a screwdriver etc, you'll also have the alternative recipes for the remotes & the recipe for a motion sensor. The sub mods need to be activated if you want those items to be available

So I installed this mod, and enabled just the primary "better engineer" mod (and not it's subsidiary individual mods) but wasn't forced to pick the engineer class (other classes showed up at creation) but picked engineer anyways. So far I have yet to see any evidence of this mod being active. Did I need to enable the "longer range remote, jankite bomb, propane bomb" sub-mods for recipes to take effect?

I also have the with it only showing Engineer after dying and trying to make a new character. I don't mind most of the time but on my 10 years later playthrough I dont really care about restarting the entire world when I die.

@Postal just for clarity as not everyone will know but the Noise generator doesn't have this kind of range, this would have been a manual edit you have done to the mod & is not the way the mod comes as standard

This should go without saying but I am going to say it anyway.
DO NOT SET THE NOISE RANGE ON THE BIG NOISE GENERATOR TO 10,000!
YOU WILL HAVE tens of THOUSANDS of zombies on your doorstep. Due to the added zombies on the map edge they will bleed into the main part of the map and it could ruin your save due to the lag tens of thousands of zombies can produce.

When respawning with this mod in multiplayer, all vanilla professions are not choosable. Other modded in professions are.
Workaround is for players to rejoin before respawning, then all options are available again.
Same thing for host, but server has to shut down and restart.

Didn't realize you disable all other professions, makes this useless for MP even though it all works fine otherwise.. Makes it annoying for SP, too, since if you decide to be anything besides an engineer and respawn or use any respawning mods you're just kinda stuck.. Not sure why you'd do that.

The non-engineer recipes follow the vanilla recipes as they are also not locked behind the trait only requiring the magazine to be read, the engineer bombs can be found as loot in the world so non engi's can still upgrade/play with them.
The Molotov hand model also follows vanilla as ALL the bombs use that model.
I still don't recommend using this mod in MP as proximity & triggered bombs vanilla or modded are bugged & TIS have alluded to a future fix when the profession update happens. Till then this mod will not be updated as any thing changed could need updating to match the profession change

Noisemaker works fine in MP, FYSA. Not sure when this may have changed but vanilla ones worked fine as long ago as 41.65 to my knowledge and the big one in your mod works fine right now on 41.73.

Lightbulb bomb has a huge zombie attracting power for its tiny bomb radius and considering what it is, should probably nerf that.

Two things bug me about your mod, both fixable:
- Some recipes are not locked to engineer to upgrade various bombs and the trigger. If you can't make the bomb or remote trigger, you shouldn't be able to upgrade it. At the very least an option would be nice.
- You are using the molotov model in the hand for your bombs, at least light bulb, big noise maker, and lunchbox. There's 3D models for all of these things, please use them, it will be much nicer!

@Devy this is not a MP mod, the large bombs are not recommended for MP as they can lag out a server & noise generators have always been bugged in MP both vanilla & Modded

@AuD it would work but you’d still need the engineer profession. Also Noise generators are currently bugged in MP so I wouldn’t recommend using the big noise trap in MP until the devs roll out the throwable update

@wapaks if you want all of the items then you enable all of them, but if you only want a specific bomb etc then enable BetterEngineer (for the recipes added to spawn) & the chosen bombs

I have a different bug that what im seeing others have. Upon linking the remotes, with all recipes known. I cannot trigger any of the devices with a V1, 2, 3 or 4. The thing im especially wanting to use is the noise maker

@darkmoriarti - im not currently using your mod right now on our current server save, but I still keep an eye on it

i wish that mod collects could be locked to not update somehow, like a fork of the mod content. it makes it impossible to host a dedicated server when you are using a collection as a means for players to get the mods. if you have 15+ different mods on a sever it gets to the point where you have to shut down and restart too often due to client-side version conflicts

items update at unpredictable intervals, so the only way to can create smooth dedicated server exp is to pick a version and repack the mods they want on the server

i know this is not what authors want but it's really the only way that a dedicated server with more than like 2 people and a few of mods can work.

again, I'm not using your content in a repack but just a thought for creators. I'd sooner just go back to vanilla than deal with the hassle of trying to keep a dedicated server running with mods.

upon respawning (solo or multiplayer) the player is forced to take the engineer profession, unless you leave the game and come back. really annoying that i (the host) have to leave the game, kicking everyone from the server just so i can start a new character without the engineer profession.
