The idea of using a lightning bolt as a projectile could also make this gun more effective at long range, having a sucessful hit deal almost as much damage as one at short range, this is at the expense of having the bolt's area of travel become more unpredictable and stray further from the genrel aim area the further it travels. The benefit would be to make this a more effective long range weapon, but more likely not to hit anything at all at longer range, unlike the regular scattergun which usually at least hits a couple of bullets at longer ranges. You could also have sucessful hits give the target some sort of status effect like "Paralysis" (slowing by 35% or something for a couple of seconds).
