@kharnthebetrayer Bro... There is literally an up to date mod linked below your comment... The only difference is it's without clothing dirt.
kharnthebetrayer 9 May @ 2:05am
I wonder if this ever gets update, or at least fan update. One of the best mods.
Jingo Spunk 2 Jul, 2024 @ 7:17pm
This mod hasn't been updated in over a year so I decided to try and take a crack at remaking at least the eyebrow and body hair matching feature

Here's a link to my mod Matched Eyebrow and Body Hair Colors Updated
Feergon 10 Jun, 2024 @ 3:39pm
Tryed to understand how this mod works, but failed. So +1 vote for update. Can't play without it.
EnumaEllis 28 May, 2024 @ 4:46pm
I hope this gets an update soon!
OfRoseEve 2 Apr, 2024 @ 1:49am
I need an update for this mod more than I need air.
Ēarendel 16 Mar, 2024 @ 6:48am
Great mod, essential even. But the fact that after an update it breaks your game AND your save files and then isn't updated for a year, really hurts. As others have mentioned the outlines of the game map are blackened and characters have weird portrait artifacts, pitch black skin or orange skin or white cheeks.

Please update! Shader files in gfx/FX are incompatible with 1.12 version.
ADRlAN1988 6 Mar, 2024 @ 12:11am
Seems to be broken with the new version. The new table is displayed in black and the characters look strange
Uhaakhaaut 25 Feb, 2024 @ 7:11pm
I would like to ask for the version that only have hair color matched if possible and thank you
DRAXXOR 19 Feb, 2024 @ 12:56pm
Please, need a update

Does make people invisible, at least on MacOS/vulkan. Thank you for the mod, in any case. It was my favourite one, while it worked.
Smokysnow 12 Aug, 2023 @ 8:11am
When I enable this mod it just makes everyone invisible
Feergon 27 May, 2023 @ 8:17pm
Hello. Aging options are broken. In previous (1.8) version with late aging hairs just started to become white in 50-60 years, and with "No aging" option they remained the same color forever, up to 100500 years. But now everybody becomes gray-haired in the range of 40-50 years, maximum up to 60 (with "no aging"). I put this mod to the bottom of the modlist, so it is hardly problem from other mods.
JurgenJuggernaut 20 May, 2023 @ 2:57pm
So if chars are missing is due Vulcan?

I have dx11 and vulkan as options, changed to vulkan due seems to make my PC overheat less and make less noice...
Buck  [author] 20 May, 2023 @ 2:21pm
IDK What he's talking about TBH. I checked in game and at most powerful, the salt and pepper gene makes few small streaks appear in early 20's. They don't go what you would consider "grey" until mid 30's. It's not super unrealistic. Obviously the effect is procedural, so certain hairstyles might look worse.
zkahnman 20 May, 2023 @ 2:18pm
not necessarily "COMMON", but I have straight up WHITE beard hairs peppered throughout and I am 30. I have a friend with 70% dark grey/30%black hair (and with no hair loss to boot) in his mid 30s, but he was obviously greying in his late 20s. My mom has had grey hair since she was 22 she told me....so id say its not rare either
Ēarendel 12 May, 2023 @ 1:35pm
It is not common to see people full gray in their late 20's to early 30's. The process starts at mid to late 30's with a significant amount visible at 50 for half. Now you can find characters almost completely gray at 30 years old
Buck  [author] 12 May, 2023 @ 1:11pm
Earendel, that's common in real life too you know.

The way it's set up is that at it's strongest, characters will only start greying in their 20s, but will be notably grey in 30's, on the opposite side of the scale some characters hair should almost never go grey.
Ēarendel 6 May, 2023 @ 5:37am
The effect is too strong on some people, I'm seeing characters in their early 30's and late 20's with full strands of gray hair with barely any natural color remaining...
PrutteHans 17 Apr, 2023 @ 9:21am
@noxovac93 I've personally had no issue using this alongside EPE. The matching eyebrow/beardstubble color feature feels so natural that seeing CK3 without it now feels kinda weird lmao.
noxovac93 13 Jan, 2023 @ 12:03am
Does this work with EPE? I know they add the salt and pepper effect but the eyebrows are not included
Sparc 7 Jan, 2023 @ 8:26pm
Thanks for making this standalone!

Hey I don't know if this will help you, but for some reason my launcher spazzed and after I fixed it I was presented with a choice between OpenGl and Vulkan renderers, when previously it was Vulkan and DX11 which I thought was strange for linux.

So I selected OpenGL to see what happens and the characters are displaying, though as expected they still do not display with Vulkan.

But with the OpenGL renderer my characters have waxy black bodies which is related to the Fair Ladies/Lords Expanded mods, though they have normal bodies with the Vulkan renderer.

So maybe that will give you a clue as to what is going on.
Lost Nomad 11 Dec, 2022 @ 5:46am
I feel you, and look forward to the update when you get round to it, your efforts are much appreciated mate
Buck  [author] 11 Dec, 2022 @ 1:54am
Well, all my whinging aside, I will fix it soon, just a bit burned out lately is all.
Lost Nomad 11 Dec, 2022 @ 12:42am
Damn that sucks. I feel you on that, I've worked on many projects where I've had to reverse engineer in order to progress, it's fun if you're doing it once to make a base for progression, but eventually destroys the soul if you have to keep on making the same base over and over again just to support what you already have, let alone progress further.

There are much much better modders than me out there, but if nobody wants to help out due to their own schedules and because linux is niche, I wouldn't mind having a conversation with you to see if I can help with the linux side.
Buck  [author] 10 Dec, 2022 @ 10:20am
PDX keeps changing shader things and I'm running out of energy to keep mac/linux support working. They give you no debugging tools and just leave you shooting in the dark.
Lost Nomad 9 Dec, 2022 @ 2:39am
Not sure if this is your end or epe, but they just did a release saying they re-enabled S&P, having removed it form the previous release, but in the new release all characters have disappeared,

I had to remove the FX folder and rar again to get the characters to show, just as I had to do back in September until you updated your mod to fix the issue for linux/mac.

So is this an issue again where we have to wait on you to update S&P or is it a epe issue?
itsmearia88 6 Nov, 2022 @ 9:56pm
anyway to make a separate mod for the matched eyebrow and hair?
TAMA小姐姐 6 Nov, 2022 @ 1:59pm
Thank you.
Buck  [author] 6 Nov, 2022 @ 9:24am
TAMA, yes go ahead, just keep in mind it will be up to you to integrate it and maintain it. Credit is welcome.
TAMA小姐姐 6 Nov, 2022 @ 8:47am
Hello, I'm the author of “character beautification” mod. Can I use your shader to put it in my mod to change the color of body hair and pubic hair? I want to get authorization, thank you.
Holger 1 Nov, 2022 @ 3:57am
@Buck I've been using ruler designer mods with unlocked genes for over a year. It definitely causes no problems. I've just been able to set this usually unavailable genes manually.
And know I understand the meaning of that groub = body code.
Buck  [author] 1 Nov, 2022 @ 1:44am
Lucky Lenny. I don't think you get access to these genes in vanilla ruler designer, they only become available when using unlocked ruler designer. However since my mod is based on vanilla genes, and it overwrites the unlocked ruler designer ones, they become unavailable again. I suppose there is no harm adding them into ruler designer anyway.
Holger 30 Oct, 2022 @ 12:21pm
@buck @cleanshirt06 I've been testing around for a few minutes and found the/a solution for the problem.

You just have to insert group = body in the code in common > genes > gene_age_override.txt as used in common > genes > 01_genes_morph.txt in the ruler desinger mods I mentioned before.

morph_genes = {

gene_age = {
group = body

...

gene_body_hair = {
group = body

After I did this, the missing entries became visible.

I don't knwo why it's working, because these code lines are also lacking in the vanilla common > genes > 01_genes_morph.txt .
Cleanshirt 30 Oct, 2022 @ 6:37am
Yeah in ruler designer
Buck  [author] 30 Oct, 2022 @ 2:27am
You mean in ruler designer? In that case I may need to double check
Holger 29 Oct, 2022 @ 2:21pm
@buck @cleanshirt06 I've got this proglem too! As lang as "Buck's Portrait Shaders" mod is activated, the "gene_age" entries and the "gene_body_hair" entries (including the density slider) are not shown in the body section. Deactivating this mod makes them visible again. This means, I can either edit the body hair color and the hair aging or the body hair density and the visible aging of my character.

I'm using Unlocked Ruler Designer Genes or Unlocked Ruler Designer - CFP and A Spouse Designer for 1.7.* .
Cleanshirt 29 Oct, 2022 @ 8:25am
Because I thought it would be in the body section, or the hair section but I couldn't find it
Cleanshirt 29 Oct, 2022 @ 7:03am
Ah I must've missed it then
Buck  [author] 28 Oct, 2022 @ 4:49pm
Cleanshirt, can you elaborate? There is a slider for body hair thickness by default, and I have added another one for the darkness too.
Holger 28 Oct, 2022 @ 2:54pm
@Buck Really impressive work! I'm truly happy about the return of the body hair colors. Every thing is working fine, even under Linux and with a hole bunch of other mods.
Cleanshirt 28 Oct, 2022 @ 12:28pm
Shame about the lack of a body hair slider
Holger 19 Sep, 2022 @ 7:00am
@Buck Great! Thanks for that info.
Lost Nomad 19 Sep, 2022 @ 6:13am
@★R'R★ Buck yeah I picked up the new EPE last night and it required no work on my part which was great. Nice to see this mod and all the others I use working properly again post Bastion.
Buck  [author] 19 Sep, 2022 @ 2:16am
Lenny, the mod as is should add the salt n' pepper hair effect to characters randomly, some will get more, some less. It is quite subtle but you can often see it in beards of older Muslim rulers for example.

Nomad, this update should not have an effect on any type of compatch you made as it doesn't alter anything aside from the shader files. EPE should be updated with the latest version if it hasn't yet.
Lost Nomad 18 Sep, 2022 @ 2:42pm
@★R'R★ Buck as a linux user I sincerely thank you so much, even if means I'll have to update my EPE compatch yet again when they inevitably include your update :steamhappy::steamthumbsup:
Holger 18 Sep, 2022 @ 12:28pm
Hi Buck, thanks for this update. I appreciate your mod and would have strongly regret plying without it.
Is this mod just working with designed characters or with premade as Vratislav II, Duke of Bohemia?
Buck  [author] 18 Sep, 2022 @ 12:09pm
Hi Lucky Lenny. It was tough, but I managed to fix the mod for Linux/MAC versions of the game.
