As of the most recent Patch to Project Zomboid, the option of Jump-scare Volume has been added to the "Audio" section in the games settings.

This is a 100% MUST have for any of the survivor NPC mods. Thank you so much Super12pl! I hated the survivors getting 'startled' and me having to hear it, now I don't have to with this mod.

You guys could also adjust the volume with the sound settings extended mod. I play with it on like 30 volume and now it's nowhere near as annoying.

PS: Came in here to say this mod is awesome, though. Definitely would've loved to have it if not for the sound settings mod.

The jump scare was cool the first time, eh the second, and the 6th time, I was sneaking up behind a zombie when my character "saw" the zed I was sneaking up to and the sting played. Very exciting. Thank you Super12!

@goose maybe people just don't want some obnoxious sound cue. The game preys on "realism" but I never hear any sound cue irl. Silence is just as scary. Sometimes even more so. I just want to listen to a video or music on the side without audible spam.

Thanks, I have PTSD and that while this game doesn't scare me in general (tension or not) the violin hits fucking make me panic sometimes unnecessarily (and it's usually because my character saw ONE zombie, lmao).

I can't thank you enough for this mod! I have health issues. Shouldn't be doing jump scares and all that jazz. Devs need to make this either a toggle or volume slider in vanilla game. I was surprised to discover it isn't. So, thank you... you're the best!

I sure hope this works in multiplayer build 41.61. This single change in the audio design has made the game unplayable for me. Have a thumbs up in the meantime. If you don't hear from me again it means that it worked.
