There's a Clockwork Tooth Trap mod that does exactly that, but costs more than regular tooth traps to balance it.
Maybe, I've been encountering latency in traps registering spiders, but I don't think it's the same phenomenon. The traps just take a second to register a spider walked over them. It's rather annoying really, as it has led to spiders triggering two traps.
No, you can't trigger your ow tooth traps, even if they go off while you're standing on top of it, you won't take damage. Just, if you have pets or followers, like Smallbirds or Pigs, don't walk over entire fields of them. Expect them to die.
Yes, it is compatible with the Clockwork Tooth Trap mod, and in fact it fixes the response time of everything with the Mine component (tooth traps, bee mines and mod items, such as the clockwork tooth traps).
