how unfortunate. im crafting a 30 years later server with minimal vehicles and an annihilated world, this would have been lovely to prevent an actual issue thats going to be on it

While I do understand what this mod is about and for, people can still fuck your vehicle over by breaking windows, the hood, taking components, etc, until your vehicle is as useful as one of them wrecked cars clogging the highways.

Small bug. The "Install Killswitch" option is always selectable, even if a killswitch has been installed. It will do the animation and install again, if selected, using another scrap electronic.
Not a big deal, but would help keep track of if my vehicle is equipped with a killswitch.
Love the mod though.

Maybe add an ingredient that cannot be obtained for the kill switch? That way the server host can make everyone spawn with only a couple or so. ANd make that ingredient character-specific or despawn on death so that people can't death-spam.

What is really needed is something that disables all interaction with the vehicle no E button, right click options or vehicle menu unless it's the owner.

An option to remove other players killswitches with level 7-10 electrical or something would feel balanced i think.

Also need server options to limit the amount of switches per players and killswitches for factions. I see admin options planned, So will wait for those. Nice mod

I ask questions using a translator. The engine can be installed, but my car cannot be installed or released by others, but it can be damaged if the engine is disconnected. Can't you stop the engine from disconnecting?

I am a Korean private server operator.
I installed the Vehicle Killswitch mod and got 1 Electricity skill,
1 Scrap Electronics,
1 I took the screwdriver and went to the front of the car.

I pressed the V key and looked at the auto option, but there was no installation option.

I don't know how to install Killswitch.

Please tell me how to install Killswitch.

Never needed the bonus killswitch, thankfully, since the only rat that got in and wanted to actually steal this old shit barge i used to drive, fell for the first trick of "damn, it's out of gas" and never went looking for any kill switches.

My current car won't start at all without either one of the original keys in the ignition, and it also has an alarm that shuts off the fuel pump when it's on, so there is no need for immobilizers, GM was kind enough to give this basic feature from factory, not the alarm though, that one is aftermarket, just in case the rats figure out how to bypass the key requirement. :steammocking:

@TTastic @Mycroft yes, i will add admin options "soon". remember that if a character dies all the kill switches they put on vehicles will disappear, or at least should. thus killing a griefer before kicking or banning is a temporary mitigation. server admins can also just edit the file that the mod uses to store the ownership info. something like "mod_vehicle_killswitchdb_store.txt". you will have to:
1. stop the server
2. edit the file
3. start the server again

This looks fun and well done! Our only concern would be admins not having the ability to remove killswitches which could long term make quite a few unusable cars around the map.

Is there a way to limit how many vehicles people are allowed to killswitch, in order to prevent the masses from sweeping up as many vehicles as they can, leaving none for new players?

Would it be possible to add some kind of a limitation (IE: a player can only make one killswitch at a time for example), while this could be a great tool to prevent vehicle theft, i can also imagine some people using this to grief (putting killswitches on literally every single car they find so no one else can have any)

Yep, trespassing being off is what I use right now as well.

Thank you for encouragement. I've spent 20 hours straight I think fixing up the Vaccine mod (so it's more playable and has no errors and no typos), and while it was really exhausting, it really feels good to get something done and then enjoy seeing players use it :).

@Deon im rather new to this game, so i havent personally experienced a sledge rampage in my safehouse. on the server i play on, safehouses physically repel players that aren't whitelisted to the house, so no one can get near my vehicles.

good luck with the modding. it is very rewarding to finally get something working after hours of playing around.

I am just dabbling in modding myself, right now trying to learn how in the life of me custom tiles can be created properly, so I really appreciate the more advanced mods like these, they take a lot of time and skill to learn and produce.

Please don't consider my previous comment as another stupid suggestion, I just thought that maybe it also bothers you, so you may have had a solution to this already, just unreleased :).

By the way what do you mean by "solved with safehouses"? Right now if you dont turn off trespassing, anyone can come in and smash your ride to bits.

@Deon thank you for the compliments. i don't think it would be difficult to implement, but there is still work to do for this mod and i need to stay focused on improving the quality. also, i feel like that problem is adequately solved with safehouses.

This is an amazing mod for my PVE Server where I wouldnt want to turn Trespassing off.

The only problem left is smashing objects inside of someone's workshop with a sledge/with melee.

With your level of skills, would you consider a fix for that, or is it too difficult to implement?

Heh, had a couple killswitches in my chevy chevette, they worked by bridging\severing the connection to the fuel pump and buoy, so a thief would crank the car, it wouldn't work, and figure the car was out of gas.

In fact only one of them worked, the other one was just a metal switch wired to zap people with an old flyback transformer i borrowed from a dead Sanyo TV, the zappy one was mounted in the trunk kinda tucked away behind the signal triangle, and the real one was below the trunk carpet, hidden under the spare tire.

Why a separate zap switch that delivers a gazillion volts? because brazilian thieves are VERY crafty and ruthless, and in general, don't deserve much in the way of human rights.

@Hodor I figured out how to add the persistence. The killswitches should now stay on vehicles even after a server restarts.

@BentNose Haha yes fortunately the killswitch analogy works well for older cars, otherwise I wouldn't know what to call this mod. My first car was a '92 Jimmy, no computers or fancy stuff like in today's cars.

@Hodor Yes, that's what I'm referring to. My server resets at least once a day, so I definitely want to get it resolved. I'm hoping that between storing it in a safehouse and the relative low cost to install a killswitch that this mod solves the theft problem at least in the short term.

This is a great idea/mod, vehicle theft in MP definitely been an issue on our server. When you say kill switches are removed on server reset, are you referring to a simple reboot/restart? Server could reboot a couple of times a week depending on stability, mods, patches etc, so that might not be feasible.

Had to do something similar to this on an old dodge truck I had. The connection to the starter stopped working (had to swap the starter first to figure this out, fun). I ended up installing an additional push button hidden under the steering wheel that I would have to push while the key was engaged.

Which is to say, this mod is quite realistic.

was literally thinking about this other day how anyone on server could find ur car and just jack it cause its just another vehicle to hotwire so i def like this idea and would agree to somehow allow it for multiple friends to use if needed somehow.

neat mod,

i suggest addition to allow share of the killswitch with his faction
e.g. as mode switch in menu
1. owner only
2. faction wide

this way anyone friendly in my faction can use the vehicle w/o shock
