As long as I'm here, thanks very much to @Hobbes___ for making this available. I've always used it for LWotC campaigns, and it's great to know that I can keep the enemies from that mod in Covert Infiltration while keeping their uniforms...er...uniform. :)

This comment is a little late, @Mac Dog64 , but I have this working. It's actually really easy. For those wanting to make this work with the LWOTC Standalone Aliens Pack, you'll need to...

1.) Go into the Config folder for this mod, and locate the file called XComLW_AlienVariations.ini

You will need to change the name of this file to: XComWOTC_AlienPackVariations.ini

2.) Open the file that you just renamed. The very first line should read: [LW_AlienPack_Integrated.X2EventListener_AlienCustomization]

You will need to change this to read: [WOTC_AlienPack.X2EventListener_AlienCustomization]

3.) Save and close the file.

That's it! Your ADVENT troopers will now wear the Back In Black colors, regardless of their class. No more ADVENT Rainbow Brigades.

So I tried Multi functional Bathroom's and I think I must have done something wrong as the LWOTC ADVENT units don't appear anymore.

Full scenario, with this in mind, in the LWOTC Alien pack it has this in the config under 'Alien Pack variation', do I change any of this or keep it the same?

And with the 'Back in black' mod, what is the full change I have to do from start to finish?

I haven't got LWOTC but I only want the LWOTC alien pack for my game, any help would be greatly appreciated.

[WOTC_AlienPack.X2EventListener_AlienCustomization] (This is within LWOTC Alien pack)

Does this work if you have the Aliens pack but not Long war of the chosen?
Nullified 3 Dec, 2024 @ 7:55am
This is brilliant

This mod is like a Christmas miracle. Thank you.

I can confirm that this works with the standalone alien pack if you rename the files, just change the name of the alien variation config file to "XComWOTC_AlienPackVariations" and change the name of the event listener to "WOTC_AlienPack." This will make it override the configs for the standalone instead of the configs for LWOTC, giving you the new skins.

No problem :)

@Mac Dog64
Just had a look at the mod (and there's a ton of new ither ones I'd like to try LOL) and it *might* work but you'll need to ensure that my mod is loaded last.

Again, a standalone alien pack is something I even tried to do for WOTC so I'll definitely look into this in the future, thanks for the heads up.
Mac Dog64 4 Aug, 2023 @ 6:23am
Fairs, hopefully in the future, great mods all around:)

@Mac Dog64
I actually wanted an aliens standalone pack but right now I don't even have X2 installed so I can't test it.

Will this work with the recent release of:
[WOTC] Standalone LWOTC Alien Pack
(Added on 3 Aug 2023) ? I really want to use both mods and I love this mod as I believe it fits the theme of Advent better, as a deadly force, as oppose to a skittle brigade haha.
Scentese 23 Feb, 2023 @ 1:39pm
love it. Works like a charm with AML
Hammer Bear 28 Nov, 2022 @ 2:48pm
it doesnt work for me
sad
Casey Jones 1 Aug, 2022 @ 8:26pm
I like this!

I've always been surprised that there isn't a mod that makes Advent use the COD\modern military gear. Is that feasible? Weird that it doesn't seem to be a thing
Hobbes___  [author] 27 Jul, 2022 @ 7:46am
@MrMister
I've updated the download with your indications.

Thanks and a word of advice: never upload another version of a mod without the author's permission.
MrMister 25 Jul, 2022 @ 8:55am
I'll wait to hear from you and update this, otherwise in a couple weeks I will upload my own version.
MrMister 25 Jul, 2022 @ 8:54am
Also, @Hobbes___ : to make back in black LWOTC actually work directly upon subscription, without having to mess with LWOTC's own files, where what you need to do:

Copy and paste all +UnitVariation entries from LWOTC's XComLW_AlienVariations.ini into Back in Black's XComLW_AlienVariations.ini (or at least the ones Back in Black is modifying) but replace the "+" with a "-", so they all start with "-UnitVariation" instead. This will remove such LWOTC-default skins from their arrays of possible skins, leaving only the ones added later in the same file by Back in Black.

I made it for you, just replace XComLW_AlienVariations.ini's contents with this: https://pastebin.com/Jv89Av5s (includes fix for Generals I mentioned below).
MrMister 25 Jul, 2022 @ 8:46am
@Hobbes___ Bug report: AdvGeneralM1 and AdvGeneralM2 need to be instead AdvGeneralM1_LW and AdvGeneralM2_LW. If you don't change this (and assuming you did the fix to get everyone black) Generals in HQ Assaults are just a floating head and a weapon.
MrMister 14 Jun, 2022 @ 12:50am
Oh btw, I can confirm that knight isolv’s workaround works. It fur5er cements my be.ieve that the way you configurednthe ininit is adding the black skins as new looks, rather than replacing the old ones.
Murat Kutosov 13 Jun, 2022 @ 3:25pm
Damn, I didn't realize how much LWOTC needed this until I saw it -- gracias!
CaptainKampfkeks 7 Apr, 2022 @ 2:02pm
Also noticed that it doesn't work. Figured it may only kick in after the first mission or that there was some issue on my end, but it looks like I'm not the only one.
Interest is there, a fix would be appreciated.
dskdev 3 Apr, 2022 @ 10:33pm
another W mod by xcom celebrity hobbes
-_Knight_Isolv_- 22 Feb, 2022 @ 4:26am
I was able to resolve the issue. You just need to copy and replace the XComLW_AlienVariations.ini file from the mod in the mod LWOTC. After that, all units will change the color of the armor. Important clarification: works with saves, but only from the next mission
Skymehyeon 17 Feb, 2022 @ 8:56am
Does not work. They are still power rangers.
Even i just put this mode and long war then play it, it doesn't work.
Hobbes___  [author] 17 Jan, 2022 @ 3:21pm
MrMister, I'm busy right now with other modding projects but if you can spot the issue, post it here and I'll fix it right away.
MrMister 17 Jan, 2022 @ 10:45am
I think the way the .ini is configured it is not replacing, but adding the black skins as possible variations, but the troops can still rock their colourful colors.
Vladimiravich (DSA) 16 Jan, 2022 @ 10:12pm
I was afraid this mod wouldn't get updated for LWOTC, thanks dude!
flyons_gary 16 Jan, 2022 @ 7:28am
Yeah I don't think its yours, I was suspecting it to be Lago's having some form of conflict.
Deadput 15 Jan, 2022 @ 7:24am
Not sure why it would unless this mod touches the same units the ones in reskinner do.

The ones I've made anyways do not cover the LWOTC Advent.
flyons_gary 15 Jan, 2022 @ 6:18am
Could it be that its conflicting with some of the alien reskinner mods? I noticed the same issue and I have them on for A Better Advent.
Regnart Seht 10 Jan, 2022 @ 7:45pm
Understandable, thanks for the feedback.
Hobbes___  [author] 6 Jan, 2022 @ 7:16pm
@Regnart Seht
No idea. The opposite (colors no appearing on cutscenes) happened on the previous version.
Likely some mod conflict or load order issue.
Regnart Seht 6 Jan, 2022 @ 5:01pm
So, I'm running into an issue where it only changes the colors in intro cutscenes but not during actual play. Any idea what might be the cause?
Amanoob105 6 Jan, 2022 @ 5:30am
"I did this because I visually prefer the oppressive totalitarian police state aesthetic instead of fighting the Power Rangers."
:steamhappy:
I may not have been looking for this laugh, but I'm happy to have found it.

A mod to keep in mind should the day come I finally dare to dip my toes into LWotC and feel that my enemies are looking less mighty foes and more mighty morphin.
Hobbes___  [author] 2 Jan, 2022 @ 8:19pm
@Regnart Seht

My squad of girls take pride in being the bad gals.
"Oh please Mr. ADVENT Officer, come and arrest me..."
Regnart Seht 2 Jan, 2022 @ 8:00pm
They do look cooler like this, but... I have my soldiers dress in all black... are we... the bad guys?
Deadput 2 Jan, 2022 @ 7:46pm
Yup, better to note it down just in the off chance you did decide to do so.
Hobbes___  [author] 2 Jan, 2022 @ 7:09pm
@Deadput
It's not it on my plans but thanks for the heads-up.
Deadput 2 Jan, 2022 @ 6:46pm
You would at least need permission to do so, since Team CX doesn't really like mods that change up their stuff without contacting them first.
neIVIesis 2 Jan, 2022 @ 5:41pm
If you're feeling inspired, Bio Troops 2.0 could benefit from a similar treatment.
neIVIesis 2 Jan, 2022 @ 5:39pm
THANK YOU!!!!
