It's true that characters will be weird or obscure. The character picks won't even have a specific pattern. The one thing that will stay consistent is that for each character is that there won't be much info to go off of, yet it can be built upon. There is a high % chance they won't even be a protagonist or antagonist. There is a high % chance they have very few things going on with them. There is a high % chance to throw crap at the wall until it sticks.
Animation is pain. I would know. I do it. You have no idea how many times I had to redraw sword smears in order to get the best idea of gameplay feel. Then I threw them at Toma and he pushed from pretty magic buttons.
Unlike Toma, I have no consistent stream schedule for the pixel art thing, but expect to see me in the afternoon Sunday - Tuesday or Midnight Friday - Saturday (U.S. Central Time). I may dump things here and there, but no promises. Secrets are cool.
As much as I LOVE Cave Story (One of my favorite games of all time), Amber and I have our next few characters figured out. Unfortunately they aren't Cave Story characters. However, I can promise that they are mostly weird/obscure picks.
Gamefeel was an important part for me, so I'm glad everyone seems to be enjoying the character! Amber designed the moveset, but I ultimately gave it the gamefeel and "balance" passes.
King was Amber's choice, and next one is mine. We're already underway developing our next character. If you're curious, I typically stream the coding process on Tuesdays, whereas AmberLearner streams the pixel art process. If you watch, maybe you'll learn some secrets about these characters? I like adding secrets.
