Shoddy Firearms Dissemination Patch

Hello @MizKai! I am usually playing with my patch "Shoddy Firearms into Interactive World" and the ammos require blackpowder so they end up much more expensive than the crossbow's (price is calculated based on the ingredients' cost). If you don't use Interactive World, then you should use my other patch "Shoddy Firearms Rebalanced". In that patch I've just increased the profitability (hence the price) of gun ammos, as I've just noticed that indeed in the base mod they end up cheaper than crossbo ammos because they have cheaper ingredients. This patch is meant only for dissemination tweaks, that's why I changed the price in the "rebalanced" patch instead. Have a look and maybe let me know how much they cost after the update! :)

so if the ammo was rare but it was cheaper than the toothpick. lol i dunno. nobody wants to sell cheaper materials if it was rare.

Ammos are cheaper than the crossbows. or i think cuz i installed some economics mods. but anyway ammos should be more expensive. 2x expensive.

I am sorry Vas but I haven't played Kenshi in a while and I never tried Genesis... Maybe try to ask to someone who worked on Genesis.. It should be easy for them as they know which NPC to edit. ;)

Could you make a Genesis patch so Genesis NPCs could spawn with guns

and talking about the interesting challenges of crafting guns because they are rare, I recommend using this patch along with my other mod "Shoddy Firearms Rebalanced", which among the rest tweaks the tech tree and production chains related to guns and makes it more interesting/challenging. Or if you use Interactive World, then instead you can use "Shoddy Firearms into Interactive World" which does the same tweaks but also allows to produce ammos from saltpeter and sulfur. :)
anyways, many thanks for your feedback and for using my mod(s). I hope you had fun! :D

yeah I guess it depends on how one looks at the lore. :) I think for the creator of Shoddy Firearms (and for me) guns are more of an exception. A technology that was lost and then only recently a few people managed to re-invent it in a shoddy way. But it's still not of common knowledge. In the original mod there is only one faction that knows how to build them, which I think was a bit too restrictive for gameplay, although it made sense for the lore. But in my patch I still wanted to keep that sense of rarity. So yeah, everyone would want guns, but they are hard to craft and therefore scarce. Which then makes for a good roleplay in my opinion, because you'll have to travel around a lot in order to find decent guns, or you'll have to put a lot of effort into research and production chains in order to craft your own guns, so you can finally have as many as you want. :D

I guess my issue with it is there are just far too few squads that have crossbows and thus have a chance of spawning with them. With the amount you see them being used make them seem more like a novelty than a sought after weapon. You would think that all the factions would try to mass produce these because it took less skill to train soldiers with them and there isn't much craftsmanship that goes into what is basically a hollow metal tube that sits on a wooden stock, but that's just my take on it guess. Nice mod regardless, and thanks for replying!

hello @Mythril , have you tried with a new game or after running an import? honestly I think with this mod it's fairly common to find someone with guns... muskets are a bit more rare but you should find at least one or two guys with some kind of flintlock in nearly every group of dust bandits or other factions which usually have crossbows. There is to consider that there are quite a few factions that will never have crossbows, and those won't have guns either. I think it made complete sense that people like the berserkers will never have a gun (or a crossbow) as they fight with huge melee weapons and their skills are not meant for ranged weapons.
and then you can usually find some kind of gun (and ammos) in any shop that usually sells crossbows. Again, not all shops do, but that's the same for crossbows and it makes sense to me.

I really wish there was a version of this mod that made the guns more common. The times that you would encounter them is just too few and far in between to have an impact on how you play, or to even be believable. It's just weird for them to be a good weapon and see almost no one else use it.

hi @datboi! this mod is only a patch for "The Shoddy Firearms Mod" and it modifies just a few things related to where you can find the guns/ammos which are introduced by the main mod. Everything else is handled by the main mod.
Datboi 2 Jun, 2024 @ 7:31am
Does this mod have re-kenshi sound effects like the other gun mods? It'd be cool if it did
I3eauLeBoi 2 Apr, 2024 @ 7:29am
I'll be sure to check it out and let you know how it is. Cheers for actually taking up on adding that functionality!

I have updated the mod so that now there is a medium-small chance that some npc will have guns. I've tried to follow the base game, editing squads that already were supposed to have a chance of having crossbows, and I've given them a slightly smaller chance to have a gun instead. I tried to assign guns of similar level to the crossbows they already had (for instance dust bandits have mostly cheap flintlocks, while tech hunters and slavers might have Muskets, and skeletons and other strong wandering characters could have the Empire Wheellock as well). Note that if some factions that in the base game won't have crossbows, they won't have guns either (i.e. the samurai-style factions)
Have a look and let me know if I should tweak some probabilities or if it's ok as it is!

Yeah i remember having that mod back when i used to play.
It'd be very much appreciated if you plan on doing it! Right now i just feel a lil' OP right now fighting locals with mah muskets.
realpikkio  [author] 30 Mar, 2024 @ 6:33pm
Ah! I just realised that I was actually using another mod so that some npc had a small chance to have guns, but I never actually included it in here... :lunar2019crylaughingpig:
the mod was Shoddy Firearms Faction Patch but I see that it has been deleted...
I am not actively playing at the moment, but I'll see if I can find the time in the next days to add a similar feature into this mod.
I3eauLeBoi 29 Mar, 2024 @ 3:36pm
So far, i did notice the rarity of ranged weapons, which is fine. But i never seen them on people before. How rare is it for them to be found on NPC's? Let alone, 'professional' factions.

all the crossbow dummies are missing I have no idea why the only training mod I have is one that makes it so you can get to a max of 20 skill with all available vanilla dummies
realpikkio  [author] 9 Mar, 2024 @ 10:10am
Hello @Cave_creature !
which training dummies are you referring to? are they added by another mod? have you tried to load this mod before the other one?
In any case, I just double checked the mod file and it doesn't seem to touch anything that could be related to training dummies...
ᚲᚨᚹᛖ_ᚲᚱᛖᚨᛏᚢ 8 Mar, 2024 @ 4:54pm
I think this mod also disables the training dummies since I have no option to even build them even though they're researched

thanks Mlemlom! :D I'm glad you enjoy them! don't forget to give a thumb-up if you haven't already ;)

Just wanted to let you know I love the mods. Really adds flavour!
realpikkio  [author] 30 Dec, 2022 @ 12:05pm
@Yuno there are no blueprints but in the base mod Shoddy Firearms it is already possible to craft the guns... You need to research some techs which unlock the crafting. Though I would recommend to use my other mod Shoddy Firearms Rebalanced for better tech tree and crafting flow.
OR if you use the mod Interactive World, then install my other mod instead: Shoddy Firearms into Interactive World
Yuno-Chan 24 Dec, 2022 @ 8:29am
Are there blueprints at all at least? I generally prefer to craft my own weapons
DUCATISLO 23 Nov, 2022 @ 10:48am
thanks
realpikkio  [author] 18 Nov, 2022 @ 12:49pm
Hello! The idea is that it should be not too easy to find firearms because it's a rare tech. You can find one or two in many shops across the world, but not many NPC have it because otherwise it'd be easy to loot plenty of them just by going around. ;)
CollapsibleChair 18 Nov, 2022 @ 12:40pm
would nice if more npc's had shoddy firearms, if they were disseminated further
