I've looked at "Expanded Craftable Weapons" and several other craftable Meitou mods through the FCS. When I looked at "Expanded Craftable Weapons" I was astonished by the number and degree of changes that mod makes compared to similar mods. It changes a LOT !

Anyway, the reason the crafted Meitou created with "Expanded Craftable Weapons" and certain other craftable Meitou mods ("Leviathan Weapon Smithing" and Snowii's Grade from "Snowii's Meitou Crafting") do not use custom textures is because such often work by creating NEW classes of Meitou - i.e., not vanilla. And custom Meitou classes must point to a texture for the model, which is the vanilla textures. But Meitou texture mods point to the genuine (vanilla) Meitou class, thus they have no way of affecting the texture location for custom Meitou in certain crafting mods.

I've tried creating a simple mod to force a Meitou texture mod to also change the texture of crafted Meitou from such mods, but the FCS refuses to point to the texture from one mod to affect a different mod. It's a software limitation. The only workaround is to have the textures in the folder of such a mod.

I'm using the Expanded Craftable Weapons V2.1 mod, and the homemade Meitou models aren't being retextured by this mod for some reason. Do you know why?

I've checked the file location for the mod, and I don't see any like custom textures or anything for it. When comparing between one of Cross' Meitou model weapon, vs. my own blacksmith's Meitou, mine wasn't shiny diamond-colored while his was.

I really love this retexture but I had some issues with it, mainly the edge being too big compared to the blade for my taste, so I made a version that tweaks that for personal use. (While I was at it I also fixed an issue with the normal map, tweaked the reflectivity, and changed the "black" of the texture to actual black instead of blueish black)

Can I upload my edit to the workshop so other people can use it as well? I'll give full credit and link this page of course.

Icons are only generated once - ever - for an item. So you are probably even seeing the vanilla icons for Meitou items. The ony way to get new icons is to do into Kenshi\Data\icons and delete all the images for icons you want to test.

Alright, I re-exported the textures, and that seemed to fix the intermittent all black texture bug I was getting occasionally. I'm not sure what to do about the inventory icons though, they're working normally on my end.

When saving as DDS with the plugin, for texture files use the BC3 option with alpha that uses DXT4/5, in the drop-down at the top. Don't use the default BC7 or whatnot, it's too new, Kenshi can't read them. Other than that, there's a checkbox that says "alpha is transparency" if you mouse over it - uncheck that one. I think the other settings can be left as is

@spacefiddle Oh nice, yeah, I didn't really know what I was doing, lol. I just used the nvidia plugin in photoshop but I'm not sure what I would need to change, I just had the default settings there. I'll see if I can clean it up sometime soon. Thanks!

UPDATE: I edited and re-saved the Diffuse and Normal textures in Photoshop with the correct settings, and everything works now. You might have corrupted texture files in your mod currently, or at least, not exactly the right format/options so that the icons cannot be generated. You might want to re-save the files on your end and upload a new version just to make sure everyone's texture files are good. Now I'm going to go hit something with my diamond sword :D

....also, i see there are two normal maps, one of them having in the name "vers2" but this file is not used by the mod; the mod is referencing only "diamond_normal.dds"

Soooo I just took out one of the Meitou-wielders, and while I believe the weapon 3D world model looked correct... hard to tell in combat.... the icon is a blank rectangle, empty, no image.

In the kenshi logs I see:

13:41:15: D3D11 : Diamond_diff.dds Could not be loaded
13:41:15: D3D11 : Loading 2D Texture, image name : 'Diamond_diff.dds' with 255 mip map levels
13:41:15: D3D11 : Diamond_normal.dds Could not be loaded

around the same time. What program did you save the DDS files from? Do you remember exactly which BCx format, and if Photoshop, which options you had active in the nvidia DDS exporter?

I will try re-saving them locally and see if that fixes it, meanwhile.

@rbalsek Oh I think that's HundRed, a red skeleton added from something in Genesis. I'm not sure which individual part they come from though, if that's who you're talking about.

I like this texture, but it is possible for you to make a secondary mod using this for skeleton smith grade please? :)
