@Havoc Zulu - This is from the guide, "Both the Haunted Vale and Whisperwood Hollow can be revisited so you can explore and get the easy fights in first and then come back for the harder ones."

"Turn down the difficulty" is not the correct answer, fix the damned balancing. Level 1-3 are virtually useless, throwing enemies with a total hitpoint pool of 3-4x the parties with also 3-4x the damage potential each round at them, along with a sorcerer with spells that can insta-kill party members from full health is not balanced. Having to go back to the save over and over or adjust difficulty is just badly made gameplay. I don't want to dissuade you from making content, I want to see more content, but preferably balanced. If you're playing through your own works with an optimal party then you're not designing for good gameplay.

Both the bandit ambush fight and the right with "Tiny" the Ogre I repeated more than 5 times. The bandit ambush I ended up having to go back to an earlier save and got a slightly easier version with 2 less enemies which I was just able to beat. The "Tiny" fight I gave up after the 5th attempt at not even coming close to beating it. If that's what you expect a level 2 party to defeat I'd love to know how. Rolling a Fighter, Cleric, Wizard and Rogue.

Level 2 now and I'm in the fight with "Tiny", the cumulative hit points of all the enemies is about 3-4x my whole party and most of the enemies are doing two attacks while I'm still doing one. Is it meant to be stupidly hard and unbalanced?

Had a bit of an issue. Level 1 party, leaving the town for the first time. Get ambushed by a group of bandits where the captain had more total HP than my whole party. TPK no matter what I do. Have to go back to a previous save, kind of annoying.

@Strad: Glad you enjoyed. This was quite an old school and combat driven open campaign. You are one of the few that completed. Congrats!

Adventures In North Whisperwood

Played this with vanilla non-modded Solasta and brand-new party in multiplayer with one other Player over a period of weeks. PC's had some hard fights but prevailed all the way through to the end of the campaign.

Some GREAT surprises but forced us to use smart tactics to win. Most of the time you are forced to find your own way or figure it out using your own intuition but it works. Sometimes it pays to camp for a few days and get some crafting done.

The play does not make use of quest (NO :nwquest:) markers. It's an open-world explore and fight kinda place.

I left town through the portal behind the single vendor not the one up by the weapon and armor vendors, the other one, so I get jumped and kill all the bandits but the captain, I had my rogue behind the fence, I wanted to try to hide again, so I dashed over by the shed next to the blue portal, got up against the shed standing in the blue, was able to hide again, I panned the camera back to my fighter and the bandit captain and there was like 8 tiger drakes that just appeared out of nowhere. I have no mods or anything and started out with clean level 1 characters.

@Firfurz There is no way for me to change these options. Whatever you get is how the core is designed.
Firfurz 24 Jun, 2022 @ 1:52am
Why will the game not let me fucking save whenever I want? PEOPLE HAVE A LIFE TO LIVE, FFS. Don't disable BASIC GAME FUNCTIONALITIES.
Marvin 22 Jun, 2022 @ 2:04pm
heres a hint everyone who ever played dnd got but the author didnt
dont
i repeat DO NOT
make identicall enemies have randomly mixed up stats
saw the stupid sorrakth assasin encounter 3 of them have random stats most of wich are the dev going hAhE bIg NuMbEr=GoOd 1 has a +15 and 4d6 per attack the other who is identicall in every way has +9 and 1d6
the other has +6 and 1d4

this is retarded and noob difficulty increase by going "well should have just know wich one had the lowest stats"
guysarrazin81 9 May, 2022 @ 7:04pm
can't use teleporter with party of 6...
cstiles99  [author] 26 Apr, 2022 @ 12:50pm
I tested this one and most fights at least 10 times and left them where I found them to be a challenge. It may be too tough for some. And yes his health I think was quite low and he can hit hard. The good new is there are 5 other "boss" fights on that map, a small dungeon behind the Ogre and another entire zone with many fights to build your level and gain gear if you choose to accept the challenge. Also you can adjust your difficulty settings to your own level.
Oltex 26 Apr, 2022 @ 11:25am
Tough fight is one thing but artificially super powering a known mini-boss with abilities of a 20th level enemy seems like a poor choice. A 5e Storm Giant has a +14 hit bonus and this was an ogre (or zombie ogre, i rage quit before i could tell for sure). 1) how is even a 5th level party supposed to kill something like that (unless it has normal HP and just a bizarrely inflated attack bonus) and 2) why did you pick a known lower level enemy type and make it way way way more powerful than it's base abilities. It's like you are deliberately trying to trick the party into a TPW.
cstiles99  [author] 26 Apr, 2022 @ 8:25am
@Oltex The first two zones that you can go to from the city are open so it is possible to walk into a tough fight. You may have to try different paths and areas if it is too tough. There are easy fights in both zones. FYI this is a battle intensive campaign.
Oltex 26 Apr, 2022 @ 7:51am
Just stared and hit my first TPW and not sure if this is bugged or not. Faced the Ogre with all the undead and he gets 2x attacks at +15!!!! There are no enemies in any other Solasta campaign (including the main) that have +15 hit mobs. It just 1-shot all my guys one by one. Is that by design (with assumption you have to kite it somehow....at L3....with 8 other skeletons swaming in?)/
cstiles99  [author] 11 Apr, 2022 @ 3:44pm
@Tabouret Ok good, sometimes I wonder if all that stuff works. Good job on getting out of that one. I think you will find it easier for a bit now until later in the game and you should be able to ignore the next warning in another zone. Good luck!
Tabouret Fantôme 11 Apr, 2022 @ 12:58pm
@cstiles99 I did get the warning, but I managed the previous encounter correctly, so I thought it was gonna be ok. I ultimately won the fight (after a number of tries), your help was decisive in the tactic I used. Thank you very much for your answer, I'll try to be more observant :)
cstiles99  [author] 10 Apr, 2022 @ 1:39pm
@Tabouret; Well you have stumbled into a tight spot. There is no other way out. You can go to a previous save game if you have it? None but the best will be able to come out at lvl. 4. I tried to guard against a too early encounter with a "difficult area" warning before you get into the graveyard area. Did you get the warning?

A pro tip the remorhaz has an auto counter to melee and is resistant to all but necro so ranged attack such as bow or magic necro attack will hurt him most. Also you can cast an AOE such as spike growth if you have it. If you are truly stuck I can push an update with an exit back where you came in.
Tabouret Fantôme 10 Apr, 2022 @ 1:59am
Hi :) I've started to play your campaign, and I'm quiet likint it so far :)

I am currently blocked though, and I feel like I'm missing something

I just beat the blood bone knight, and got the stone, but the only pathway left leads to an encounter with a remorhaz. I'm pretty sure my lvl 4 party can't make it, so I suppose there is a way to leave the zone, but I can't find it.

Am i missing something ?

Thanks for the help :)
cstiles99  [author] 17 Feb, 2022 @ 9:19pm
Admittedly I played through all my tests with Barb, Cleric, Ranger and Sorcerer and only wiped on the last battle so it may be an optimal group. I figured if the fights were too much then adjust the difficulty. Also there is plenty of opportunity to get great gear. It is a battle heavy adventure. This was my favorite part of the Solasta engine. Good job on sticking it out!
Daemonbob 17 Feb, 2022 @ 6:29pm
So I'm level 12 and there are a few battles here which are downright evil. I didn't take in a super-optimized party and I find myself rage quitting because of jacked-up monsters spawning in behind me, front-liners dying in two rounds, and so on. Now part of it seems to be the game's RNG which hates me, but I'm not enjoying it.
As a counter example, Ode to Yendor has some similar features and battles that took a lot of creativity and every resource and trick in my book to survive, but they were not the meat grinder that this adventure serves up.
Other than that, the structure of the adventure has quite a good feel to it...lots of nice features.
cstiles99  [author] 13 Feb, 2022 @ 11:20pm
Yes I think this is a weird bug with some items.
kb7txc 13 Feb, 2022 @ 2:27pm
Answering my own question. I selected only the character with the note and was able to unlock the door. The group selection didn't seem to select the right character to open it.
kb7txc 13 Feb, 2022 @ 2:12pm
Is there a trick to finding kylo. i have the note in inventory and go to the only locked door in the inn. It still didn't open.
Firfurz 10 Feb, 2022 @ 10:26pm
Thank you for the updated info. Downloading and playing it right now!
cstiles99  [author] 8 Feb, 2022 @ 10:12am
Yep. Didn't realize it reset the description on the new version update. This is a 1-12 campaign. Mostly combat oriented. Time really depends on play style as there are two big adventure zones that can be cleared over several visits if desired. At least 10 hrs.
martyn jones 29 Jan, 2022 @ 10:04pm
I think it's fine as is. I was playing late at night with a half-asleep brain. I (like to) think I wouldn't have had any trouble earlier in the day. Am enjoying the ongoing adventure. Thanks.
cstiles99  [author] 28 Jan, 2022 @ 4:13pm
The only reason I did it that way was to keep the room as dark as possible for the encounter. Never really intended to hide the exit. I think the mechanics could probably be improved.
martyn jones 28 Jan, 2022 @ 3:31pm
Funny how it works: after reading your answer, that narrow little alley looked damned obvious!. Thanks.
cstiles99  [author] 27 Jan, 2022 @ 8:12pm
FYI the Discord channel is usually active and i can get you a quick response there.
cstiles99  [author] 27 Jan, 2022 @ 8:05pm
Hey @jones.martyn Stay in the last room where the ghost was and look wall to wall. There is a small 1 size path down 1 side that will trigger a plate and activate your exit.

Glad you are having fun!
martyn jones 27 Jan, 2022 @ 7:03pm
Help? My party is L8 in the elven building (the save file says "Galanaar"). Getting to the level involved arriving in a small square room that had an orange teleportation circle on the floor. When the party stood on it, we jumped into the 'dungeon' proper. I've been all the way thru the dungeon, killed all the baddies (including the named baddy and his later returned ghost), and now I'm stuck! I can't find a way out of the dungeon. Help?

I have been thoroughly enjoying your hard work, thanks. I especially liked some of the ground-level maps, and a few times got pleasantly surprised by tough battles. The spider queen and getting to her comes most to mind. That was some fun terrain to battle through.
cstiles99  [author] 19 Jan, 2022 @ 11:35pm
This is my first map. It turned into a much bigger project than I anticipated when I started and it has been a lot of fun. Any constructive input is greatly appreciated and I hope you enjoy playing!

A quick guide note: The first two big adventure zones of Haunted Vale and Whisperwood Hollow can be returned to. After you take the Northern Route in Stormshroud pass the rest of the map is linear.
