This was honestly one of my favorite mods, when I return to B41 I'll always revisit it :)
Unfortunate that spearfishing was removed in B42. Hope it comes back someday.

You could be the one to find a way to mod it back in, or maybe make a few occupations based around, fish, hunting, nature, suvival, like 4 different ones with a different flair
Crowflake  [author] 5 Jan @ 4:52am
Well they removed spearfishing entirely so I'm not sure what do do with this mod now.

love the mod, the fishing and spear lvl is a godsend, pls update when you have free time :)
Loved spear fishing maybe people will mod it back?
Can of Sprats 18 Dec, 2024 @ 9:53pm
They removed it completely in 42
Crowflake  [author] 18 Dec, 2024 @ 11:39am
Huh? What happened to Spearfishing? I'm not keeping up with the game news currently.
Can of Sprats 18 Dec, 2024 @ 12:13am
project zomboid devs hate this one simple trick! (RIP spearfishing)
Crowflake  [author] 19 Jul, 2024 @ 12:00am
Been a while since I worked on that, but no, if my memory serves, I made it without the framework.
qerty 18 Jul, 2024 @ 5:39pm
it doesnt need profession framework?
Crowflake  [author] 9 May, 2024 @ 2:27pm
@Puddings
In vanilla, spearfishing is a LOT slower than fishing with a rod. As in you'll catch a lot less fishes, similarly to fishing in winter.
Puddings 8 May, 2024 @ 1:25pm
"you spearfish without penalty" What was the penalty? >_>
Crowflake  [author] 29 Mar, 2023 @ 12:45am
No problem Biggles, if you find anything wrong with the mod let me know. I'm done with dev stuff atm so I can focus some more on PZ mods.
TTVbadluckbiggs 28 Mar, 2023 @ 6:51pm
thank you!
Crowflake  [author] 28 Mar, 2023 @ 4:02am
Mod updated! The trait is back and balanced, hopefully :fhappy:
gygf 21 Mar, 2023 @ 12:20am
Thank you
TTVbadluckbiggs 27 Jan, 2023 @ 11:25am
i think -8 or -10 points would be perfect, those passive traits are super proper
Crowflake  [author] 7 Oct, 2022 @ 10:03am
Alright, done, finally.
gygf 27 Aug, 2022 @ 5:59am
(; soon?
Crowflake  [author] 26 Jul, 2022 @ 4:21am
No worries. I'll probably stick the no knife damage to it as well, because that was my main motivation for doing this mod.
gygf 26 Jul, 2022 @ 1:55am
(: thank you, looking forward to
Crowflake  [author] 25 Jul, 2022 @ 11:46pm
I guess I could do something like that. I'm not really focused on modding atm, I'm rather busy with dev school, so that will have to wait.
gygf 25 Jul, 2022 @ 10:54pm
i like it soo much, but pls could you do Spearfisher trait, just no penalty when fishing with spears pls pls pls pls
Crowflake  [author] 7 Mar, 2022 @ 12:24pm
Glad you like my mod! Also, Ra's Professions probably uses the Profession Framework mod, which I do not. Switching my stuff over to this framework might fix it but might take a while. I'll be busy with Elden Ring :fscared:
Limdood 7 Mar, 2022 @ 12:05pm
I know the "Ra's professions" are still selectable after death so it must be able to be done, but for now a workaround is much appreciated. I really enjoy spears and a profession that lets you focus on them, while being able to use them without handicap for the one "tool" use they have without penalty is great. I really enjoy this mod
Crowflake  [author] 7 Mar, 2022 @ 2:20am
I've noticed that, but I'm not sure how to fix it. It's the same with every custom profession from what I've seen. You can go back to the main menu and load back in, it will then show up in the list again.
Limdood 6 Mar, 2022 @ 5:02pm
There's a bug that makes spearfisher unselectable after a death.

So if you're playing, multiplayer or solo, and your character dies, and you want to make the new character a spearfisher, you're out of luck...it just doesn't show up on the list after a death
Crowflake  [author] 3 Feb, 2022 @ 4:37am
I've actually given the same bonus that Fisherman gets to the Spearfisher, +1 radius and -33% weather effect. Though, I did my own tests in debug mode, and it's unnoticeable until you get your Foraging to 5 or more.

This is how I noticed that base game occupations' forage bonus don't work, actually.
General Profit 3 Feb, 2022 @ 4:17am
looks significantly more in line with the other occupations now, when the foraging bonuses are fixed it might make sense to have the same ignore weather/radius increase as fisherman since it is primarily an outdoor profession but honestly not a big deal either way
Crowflake  [author] 3 Feb, 2022 @ 2:07am
Alright, new update coming up!

First, I'll remove the Maintenance and Carpentry from my occupation, to make the Handy trait desirable.
Second, remaining skills will change to 3 Spear and 1 Fishing. Let the Fisherman be master of fishing, and Spearfisher master of spears.
Finally, starting cost won't change. The abilities are strong enough as they are and justify the cost.
General Profit 2 Feb, 2022 @ 12:43pm
Huh neat piece of trivia i did not know ty for that
Crowflake  [author] 2 Feb, 2022 @ 9:07am
The bonus on foraging doesn't even work on occupations, there's a typo in the code. Only works with traits.
General Profit 2 Feb, 2022 @ 4:02am
Dropping the carpentry and keeping the current -4 i think would put it about on equal standing with park ranger since both have a weapon skill (axe/spear), both have a utility skill (carpentry on park ranger maintenance on spearfisher), both have two food skills (foraging & trapping vs fishing and no fish penalty on spears), both have a misc bonus (tree walking speed and spears not damaging knives)... park ranger does have the bonus to foraging radius and ignore weather/darkness but i would have said the no fish penalty on spears is more significant than the exp modifier and starting levels in trapping since you are directly buffing a skill you are already good at so in this sense they would be similar in power level (had to split my comment into two i typed too much haha)
General Profit 2 Feb, 2022 @ 4:02am
Alternatively instead of the cost increase you could remove the carpentry since from a thematic perspective carpentry doesn't have as much relevancy to the career (considering they could have simply bought the spears from a carpenter)

Whereas fishing spear and maintenance all suggest they know how to use the spears for fishing and how to avoid breaking them (considering they are fairly fragile)

From a balance point of view this may be better than the point increase considering it makes the expensive handy trait alluring for the carpentry bonus as the max condition of the spear scales with your carpentry skill
Crowflake  [author] 2 Feb, 2022 @ 2:56am
@General Profit

Thanks a lot! :fhappy:
For balance, I was thinking of either increasing the cost or simply removing Maintenance and Carpentry. Maybe a small cost increase is in order.
General Profit 2 Feb, 2022 @ 2:48am
I actually really like this as a occupation, whilst perhaps not the most realistic of jobs for 1993 it fits a nice niche in the lack of spear occupations along with an interesting ability to boot

However for balance i think it would be better to be -6 starting points since stat wise it is rather similar to park ranger but ability wise i would say it is better so i think this change would help bring it in line but still be an interesting top tier occupation
