Everyone is a critic, albeit not always a good one.

I would like to see what everyone else commenting on here in a negative manner has made themselves for their first TF2 hat.

Why are you judging whether something is "really" steampunk? You realize this is a fictional game with fictional pretend content? Lighten up some and enjoy the back story.
Seems as silly as: "OMG Becky, Torchlight 2 is totally, like, ya know, so not steampunk. I mean look at all dos robots and gadget thingys, those are so fake and they weren't around in the 18th century. Look at her gears, I bet they're fake."

Ignore the haters, keep up the work, keep adapting and learning! :)

Hot glueing gears on something does not make it steampunk. Most steampunk top hats have a feather and a pair of goggles laying at the base, the ones with gears tend to not be the main focus point and they have is a design that suits well with them.
People are saying not bad for your first and I would agree though. Just giving some pointers if you want to get more into steampunk.

Top Hats were not widely spread in the 18th century, and the first crude versions originated in the first half of the 19th century.

It's O.K., we all make mistakes. Sometimes, to see them, It just takes one brain more.

Pretty good for your first workshop entry. Though if you wish to improve, I'd recommend either checking out Polycount or Facepunch (specifically it's newest emporium thread). You'll get good advice from people that have gotten their items into the game from there.
